Winter

sorry...pattycake..ive only been in rochester for 3 years now...have signed to stay with the same hospital for another 4 years. I cant remember too many subzero days ( unless you count the wind chill on occasions)

Well....it got pretty cold a few times here in SE Indiana last year. So, I would go out about 6pm, and turn on the red heat lamp. It didnt make the coop "toasty" but did give them a warm spot to get into. I would leave it on all night, then in the morning, when I feed, turn it off. Increased lighting kept my RIR/mixes laying all winter. Just aim it towards thier roost but far enough away they cant touch it, or fling feathers into it.

well chicks should probably b under a light of there 20 weeks or yunger. . .but if they are full grown and were u live there are not that much freezing days they will be ok with a little air in the coop. . .but not drafty. . .

hope i helped:)

When they are outside and its winter what are they eating? There is no bugs.? WHat do they do in the snow?

they walk on top of the snow looking around. . .might want to throw some on the floor. . .hehe

chicken_love -- sorry I've been on holidays

I dunno? My chickens and ducks all live together....

They all eat from the same oatmeal bowl in the mornings when they get it......

My chickens sleep in their boxes or on their roosts and the ducks sleep under it in their low boxes.

My little barred rock roo bugs them but he bugs everyone --- my ducks just waddle the other way when he stares at them.

My white Leghorn roo likes to swim (well.... stand) in the water with them...he loves the ducks...but then again he sits on my lawn chair when I suntan too

soooo.....maybe my entire feathered family is a little weird?
:cool
