I have a lone male Sebastopol goose that literally we just moved outside this week. He's almost 6 months old. We've looked high and low for another goose preferably female so he wouldn't be lonely, especially with winter coming up, to no avail.

I hate the fact that he's alone and I try to spend as much time outside with him as I can but I'm worried about him being alone all winter long.

Should I just bring him inside for the winter or should I let him "tough it out" for the winter outside alone?

I can't put him in with my ducks, he doesn't get along with them at all.

What would you guys do??

We plan on getting more geese in the spring so he'll have more friends then.

I wouldn't bring him in, that would only make things worse. Are there any ducks that he gets along with? You say he doesn't get along with the ducks as a whole, but are there some that he tolerates at least?

I wouldn't bring him in.
I will PM you then name of a lady in TN with Sebs.
If she doesn't have any I have 5 month old goslings for sale
and I ship.
See my website for details.

Thanks everyone. No, he doesn't get along with any of the ducks. He attacks them, they attack him, its not a good scene. They even try to get to each other through the fencing.

I warned my husband about keeping him in the house so long. The only reason that Peter's outside at all right now is because I absolutely insisted.

Don't get me wrong. From sun up to sun down every day Prince Peter was outside playing in his pool, running around enjoying himself but if it rained, hubby was outside with an umbrella, running to bring "poor Peter" into the house. And he was in the house every night.

The spare bedroom was known as Peter's room! UGH!

Cottage Rose, I'll check out that woman who's name you gave me and if she doesn't have any, I'll be in contact with you.

I guess i missed the part where you said he's been in your house for 6 months...is that correct?!
WOW! So he has no idea that he's a goose.
I think in time he will adjust to outside living...just give him some time ans stop bringing him back in the house. You said he can fight thru the fence with your ducks. Can you put something up that can prevent that like some chicken wire or that plastic mesh fencing? That way he can still see the ducks but not fight with them.
He may even fight with a new goose because he
doesn't know he's a goose.
Good luck!

He's not near the Pekin ducks. But we would go for walks past the ducks and they would attack each other through the fencing. He actually gets along with my two female Call ducks. They're fenced right next to each other. He and the Calls "chat" all day long to each other.

Peter was with his sister and another goose until the end of May when his previous owner decided she couldn't deal with 3 geese and she wanted to sell one male. My husband, who said he hated geese, told me that Peter would be my responsibility. That was until he realized how sweet he was. That's all it took. My husband wanted to keep him as a house goose and I told him that we were doing him a great disservice by not allowing him to be what he was.

Peter tries to get into the run with the two female Call ducks but of course due to the size difference, I'm not letting that happen.

If he seems to get along with your calls, I would try putting them together (watching closely for a while). We keep a little female mallard with our pair of Sebs that are about 5 times as big. The mallard was too small to put with the other ducks, go figure, plus our sebbies are much friendlier!

They picked on her a bit for a couple of day, but now they can't be separated! The mallard follows the gander around everywhere and they are put up together at night just fine. I understand your concerned about the size difference but the calls will learn to avoid being stepped on. Now once he begins his breeding habits you will need to separate them but hopefully you will have another sebbie by then.

Hey I have a friend who has a Call Duck (Dickey) who thinks one of her Sebastopol's is "his woman" and lives amongst the Geese just fine.
Love the pic above!

You said he doesn't get along with your ducks. Here is what I would do. Where ever you house your ducks make a wire run along side them for your seb. They don't need a very high fence (only a couple of feet) That way he can see them and they can see him and this usually works with no problems. Good Luck
