Wintertime care - light

Oh yeah,
Another beautiful area of New York.I live in NY but I am not a native.I think the state is so pretty.
 
From what I've gathered chickens need 14-16 hours of light to maintain their laying cycle. I have a 60 watt bulb in their coop that is rigged to an automatic timer that goes on at 6am and turns off a few hours later. During the summer I haven't really needed it, but when the days start getting shorter I'll be using it.
