Wire Bottom vs. Shavings

What size is your wire mesh? I tried some 1" but I guess it was too big. I grabbed some 1/4" this morning from the store but the droppings don't drop through it

I wish I could just go with shavings only.

Ok Ridgerunner...Or Anyone Else That Can Tell Me,What Is cocci And How Do You Get The Chicks Immunity To It?? And I'm New To All this Stuff....But I Gotta Ask This Too...I Have A Idea What It Is , But Not Sure >> What Is Protazoa ? And Why Do The Chicks Need To Eat It ?? Thanks Again Everone.....
