hi all,

Just wondering is sheep wire ok for fencing chickens, i'm not overly worried about keeping foxes out jsut the chickens in, the coop is very secure and during the day there will be dogs outside around the coop,

depending on the wire ( some is big squares, some small and some is just wire lengths..) usually no, they will jump it, fly over or go through it. unless its a roofed pen or the sheep wire has chicken wire over top of it.

we have sheep fence with big holes.... and its typical sheep fence here. we have to chicken wire it as the birds can get through. or they go over ( if they cant fit)

Then I'm assuming that the sheep fence in NZ is different than the sheep fence in Texas, USA.

well that's smaller than our stuff and should be better, however if they are getting out then id suggest the chicken wire approach

yeah i like that idea, i could start of with this type of wire if i see anyone abscond i could add the chicken wire over it.
but saying that one of my small collies (mix with a terrior i think) can go through sheep wire so might just add the chicken wire before she thinks playing with the chickens is a good idea,
