I used an apron made from heavy duty galvanized chain fence and I also added 1/2" hardware cloth for snakes. It might be overkill but I have 4 dogs and bring in rescues all the time. I'm glad I did because in hot weather I leave the door to the run wide open and sleep like a baby. My neighbor bought a place that had a coop and run. He has wire in the bottom inside the run. It's okay, but the wire does get exposed when they're scratching and digging. I'm surprised at how deep the chickens will dig a hole to lay in it. Either way the chickens will be protected.
