Wire on the Bottom of the Coop?

It's a thought...to keep the wire floor. We do get frost in the mornings (about 30% of he time). It gets down to about 17 degrees on occasion. I'm in Sonoma county (wine country). I think I'll do the strips, with the potential of covering the whole floor, and try out the 2/3rd coverage. If needed, I'll add the other board and play around with no boards if it feels right.

My chickens don't come in from the outside roosts till it gets in to the single digits. I wouldn't worry about a wire floor unless the temp drops to there a lot.

We have a hardware fabric (wire) floor and when it gets a little cold we put landscape fabric on it to keep the drafts down. The landscape fabric can be rinsed and reused quite a number of times. I also ran composite recycled boards down the center to make it easier to walk on and to clean.
