Musta been busy. Was thinking about taters next year but it turns out that there will be some unexpected paybacks for my giving away the excess veggies. Have new reds and some goldens headed our way.

Can't think of the name for it but it's a flat tined pitch fork that would work really well. It's called either a flat tined pitch fork or maybe a tater fork.

Like Bigz said start well away from the plant. The people I'm getting the taters from can theirs. Never had them so can't really say how they are. It's really comforting to know that there are still a lot of good people out there willing to share their excesses with no strings attached. That's the way it should be!!!!!!

Busy day. Canning potatoes and salsa. When to the feed store to pick up 25 chicks. Came home with 50. They were sent 50 too many. Anyone in the E.C. area may want to call Countryside and get some meaties.715-877-2661 Fall Creek:)

Sorry I forgot to mention that if you make hash browns or any other type of tater from fresh soak them in water for a couple of hours first it gets some of the starch out of them and they fry up better pan, or deep. Haven't tried it yet but heard if you prefry FF's then freeze them they come out a lot better. Bigz hope L brings home some of the reds, cut in half with butter, parsley, and garlic powder on a cookie sheet to compliment the fish tonight!

Dr H, that is correct about prefying the french fries.. that is what McDonald's does.. Not all the way, though. and when doing fresh french fries, It is best to prefry them for about 2 minutes,, and then put them back into the deepfryer to finish them .. they get crispier.. Is this correct Brent?

How do you can potatoes? It must take hundreds of jars..

Now Annie informs me she wants to can tomatoes.. only about 50 quarts.. Ooo K..

man , I have emails coming from all sources today..

lol would that be a roofing pitch fork ? I was using one of those as all purpose and my son told me it was for taking shingles off roof.

Man, it sure has turned out to be a nice day out there today! I am waiting to hear from my SIL to find out if the apple trees on her parents property are ripe enough yet to get some and get some applesauce and cider going to be canned. I love this time of the year.... the house always smells wonderful. Speaking of smelling wonderful - I have spare ribs in the crock for supper tonight. Yum! They smell like BBQ sauce and ribs. Sure wish I had more pea plants that grew this year. These 4 that are in the garden are sure not producing enough for me to get enough off of to feed our family of 5 one side of them! I have a small container in the fridge that I will keep adding to. Maybe someday we will get enough to make a meal out of it!
