tried posting earlier but it went poof!

Busy day again today- working on getting yet another unit clean so we can get it re-rented- this one was turned just about inside out-of course this is one that we personally have

Down to 2 kids-DS(9) went to spend time at his grandma's house till Sat mid-day when we have to go part way and pick him up. Friday DD goes to stay overnight by her Aunt and will come back Sat later afternoon.

Did some addition work on our coop this past weekend, DH built in 4 over head cages on the wall that has the doors out to the runs, this gives us some more space to separate the birds when we need to start collecting to incubate this fall to hatch out for Jan 1st or 2nd. Will try and post a picture.

Our peachick is doing good, we are trying to hold it everyday so it gets use to us! Our 15 brolier chicks are now 1 week old and it is interesting how they act compared to the other chicks!

They are babies, probably 3 months old now. I am taking the only male out of the clutch because males are more likely to talk. They are actually pretty quiet birds. I think they are the smallest parrot related to the Amazon parrot. I just think they're adorable and I've always wanted one. I'm very excited to find one this young.

Wow - not a whole lot of chicken chat going on here tonight! Off to bed I go - and I am so so so so SO glad that Peepers is quiet tonight for once! Glad I got her/him some friends!

No kidding CC! A TON of pages to read...so Dornes--am I to take this that you do NOT want the most adorable yellow and gold chick and the all yellow one I stole from their mama??? HUH?! They are from the darkest eggs I could find...I wanted to throw in a guinea pied chick too with crooked toes....are you SURE????

I was really busy today and for once got something done ahead of time! The inside dog kennel now is 3 separate chicken runs!

I put 2 mamas and their babies in one and I am planning on working on the other two...still need roosts and doors to get in...in the next few days. I am pretty proud of myself for sure! I think the way I have it set up I will be able to rig up the auto waterer that I bought all the parts for 2 years ago.

I might even be able to get some pure chicken breed eggs next spring! WHOOT!

Need some hatching advice. Got some quail eggs today, and will be batoring those along with some chicken eggs. I just have a cheapie LG with auto turner. Should I stop the turner while the quail hatch? I don't have anything else to use as a hatcher. I tried taking a tray out of the turner but they are in there good and I don't wanna break it. Any thoughts??

IMHO: turning is over rated.. I often stop turning when eggs are hatching.. No big deal. and those turners in the LG and Hovas are so slow, i have hatched without stopping at all..

just watch when the quail are hatching.. they like to hide under anything.. and they can hide long enough for even those slow turners to trap them..

the lady came and bought 12 americauna.. we got to talking and it turns out she has a cockatiel.. I mentioned that I have often thought I wanted one.. Really??? she wants to get rid of hers.. we are going to give it to Ken for his B'day next month.. I am going to trade guineas for it..

this lady brought a gourgeous rooster to give to me. I gave her a real good price on the americauna.. the rooster is a LARGE red one.. I don't think it is R I red, though.. looks like a mix of RI red and Buff Orpington.. I put it into the chicken coop while we caught her chicks.. I forgot to tell Annie it was in there.. she let it out when she collected eggs.. Of couurse it and my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte had to mix it up a bit.. more than a bit.. I had to break them apart.. I gave each one a good thump on the breast with my foot.. that way each of them thinks they lost the fight and they quit.. They don't analize where the thump came from..

looks like I will get to bed at a reasonable time tonight..

I never had enough potatoes to can but I have bought canned potatoes... just handy to have on hand.
You can also blanch fries before freezing... just make sure they dry well.

Was it Jim that had the advise for holding fence staples? Great idea! I bet it would work with nails and screws if the hole was right. An old eraser should work.

Well, Duke was not so good most of the day. Then about 7 pm I gave him some more meds. and he's been quiet so he's resting and shouldn't be in pain. DH says get him on some more antibiotics (because he get's ear infections) and see how he is. He dose eat and drink. He goes out.... but gets "weird" and dose not want to come in....

DH did talk to someone about "putting him down" ..... guess we wait and see.... more

Beautiful Morning Everyone! Bigz I gotta say that was far and away my best effort to date on the fish. The batter was the right consistency and the oil was the perfect temp. The fillets fried up golden brown

L rolled the split taters in olive oil added the seasoning and baked them to perfection! Man I love food! And it shows

Cind sounds like all you can do for Duke is make him comfortable.

Good to hear Ruddy is earning his keep. It never fails to amaze me just how quiet and sneaky chickens can be. While I was digging carrots yesterday I left the gate open. The guy getting the carrots says you've got a chicken in the garden. Turned around here was Goldie the sneakiest chicken ever born. I don't know how many times I've gone into the garage and after a minute or two I hear a noise and look up to find her standing in the top of my tool box which is head high.

Bad naughty chicken! Jim it sounds like you've got a good swappin lady there. Dornes sounds like Peepers is finally happy

Think I'll be able to get the camper done today. Already started a list for up nort.

Been getting a lot of things crossed off the to do list, it's getting down to some major things but it feels good none the less. Enjoy the great weather!
