Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Top pic has our blue andalusian Blue on the left, Falcon ( as in mellenium) who also came from a blue egg and wookie a partridge cochin. Are you getting the theme here for most of these.... (we have alot of princesses and superhero names outside)
second picture is a closer look at Leah. I think she is gorgeous. She was yellow with chipmunk marks when she was born and she has really gotten a cool pattern... I am guessing splash with great feathering on her legs. So cute! You can also see Yoda the white silkie next to her. Love having a nice mix of colors and breeds since breeding is not number one. ( although really want to breed silkies at some point here.)

and to the Cheesehead thread, laughingdog! Hope you like it here. Lots of friendly, helpful people here. And noone bites, too hard anyway........

thats ok, i bite too.. so thanks for the warm welcome! I only have four flying flight pigeons that i know of that i can bring for now (would be staying temp at least with old buddy of mine who hates animals and people really), so unless can stash ten some where else, thats all ill have, as already gave away all my chickens, other pigeons/doves, and dont have my mini house pet goat anymore.

Chickenlover... welcome... I am your closest cheesehead, in New glarus but drive through Verona most days of the week. We have a backyard coop with about a dozen chickens outside and 9 babies between 2-3 weeks inside. You must live in the country or be an educator to have chickens in verona. Are you part of madcity chickens as well?
Lots to learn on here!

Celtic- those babies are getting big and cute. any big combs... I have a few solid combs already... cheryl is that indicative of andalusians... because my blue has a solid comb for a little one.

Pictures to come... first is dd(my chicken whisperer) with Ewok, our bantam brown leghorn and Leah who came from a blue egg EE. Better pic of her to come.

cute picture!

if the Andalusian comb is getting red then probably is a boy, does you bantam leghorn have a dark line about it's eye? hard to see in the picture. If it has a dark line about the eye-like eyeliner- could be a girl....

to all the new chicken lovers who have joined!

Was a super busy weekend here, we went to the Walworth swap- not as much stuff there this time around and we were there early. Friends of ours were there selling chicks- said most were after pullets as they couldn't have roosters. Ran into MLH there and talked with her for awhile-always cool to talk with someone who is willing to share their knowledge!
bow.gif
Of course DS(7 years now) was not interested in being there and managed to hit his sister in the back of her legs so we had our typically circus going on!!!
barnie.gif
DH and the boys watched a demo from a gal using bees wax to make designs on eggs and dye them- she gave them the egg to bring home- it sounded cool(DD and I were talking with MLH) and now the kids would like to try their hand at designing some.

Helped DH move all the snow equipment to the storage shelf and bring down the summer stuff- he got our garden tilled once so far and will probably hit it another time maybe two. Have alot of our seeds ready to go but still need to pick up some beans, peas, onions and such. Planted 400 onions last year- DH and my brother like them pickled-about the size of a half-dollar, we did leave some get bigger and had some as table onions too. Have to try and get some pickled beets made this year- the moles wipe out our crop last year and we are down to our last jar. Any ideas of how to get rid of the moles?

Had to move some of the younger birds around to give them more room to grow- the turkeys were fast getting to big for our biggest dog crate- so now they have a bigger area to move around in. They all seemed happy. Also culled some birds to that didn't make the grade for DD to use for fair.

Typically Monday stuff here so best get moving- have a great day!

Chicken lover wi.. CLW for short...

I am reading, but not posting. I did get my two goats Sat. Was going to post pictures last night. Got a call from my best friend. She's 34 wks pregnant, and her baby died sometime this weekend. She's being induced today to deliver her still born son. I am devastated for her. I cant really think straight. I can't get my head around it. So if I'm not posting much, you know why.

Any of you who believe in the Lord... I ask for your prayers for Heather and her family.
Thanks guys...

Windy Morning All!
The Girls are all a fluster this morning. It started at 5:45 this morning and they have been acting freaky on and off since then. This wind is getting to them. DH and I got up to check on then when they first went off. I think it's going to be a long day here.....Plus I did not sleep well wit the wind and worry about the rabbits.

Welcome to the Newbies! Hope you enjoy it here!

TO-WCc gave some good advice and FT made a really good point about trail riding on a TW. Gaited horses naturally travel faster then "regular" horses do and some do not "dog walk" well for long periods of time. That can make group trail rides a chore. My MFT is/was that was. T'sai'd "dog walk" for a bit but then get frustrated because she had to wait for everyone else. Her sister, Tez, could do it all with out so much as missing a beat and she'd do it cheerfully. T'sai not so much. She was a lot hotter then Tez. I rode my mare alone a lot. She was very good and I was young and stupid but it saved her sanity on those times I did have to ride with a group of non gaited horses.
If you are serious, then plan on getting a pre purchase exam done. This is very important to do no matter what age or breed of horse your a purchasing.

Well, I 've got to get gone....take my shower then go into town to pay some bills and get a bag or two of sand....later!

Good morning! Lots to read tod ay...almost took 2 cuppas to get through. Welcome to all the new folks! Hoping to meet you all at some point. I think the bash invitation has already been extended--the thread is below too.
There is a branch scraping on my house/window that is making a noise just like the honk of a goose! I wantered around a bit when I got up trying to figure out what it was. I HATE wind! It makes me anxious...and irritable. I dont know why this is. Maybe cause I cant sleep with all the blowing, creaking and rattling going on in this old place? Or maybe I think the huge maple next to the house will fall during the night? Last night the rest of the plastic flapped itself off of the porch...so now the door is rattling and stuff is blowing off the previously "kind of" enclosed porch. All the seed potatoes spilled and got mixed together

Yours are OK still Amy. They are still in the bags! I moved mine to buckets so that they could get some sun and send out the shoots in preparation of planting...yeah, how can I do a test of 7 varieties if they are all mixed together?

THat was my ONE garden project that I was looking forward to this year....guess I will separate the best I can...they will all taste good anyhow! MMMM--just the thought of a fresh potato from the garden...wipe if off on your jeans and take a bite..."juicy ain't it?" (To quote the Organic Gardener ex-editor)

H&R--my chicks are too big for their brooder too...moving them today I believe. They are actually starting to fight in the chick TV! CC--I believe you have all hens! (WOW!) Must be because you wanted a roo? The one that is more gold looked like maybe it could be a roo....they sure are looking fine!
Thanks for the advice horse people...my daughter is till way into horses Carol--she has 3 and I have the Rocky. What I really want her to do is decide what she wants to do with the mustang and her son so they can move on out of here! Her show horse can stay but I'll have no love lost on the other two! Good for you MXM on the security measures! Better to have them in place right from the get go then to have to rebuild!

Well i better get outside in the wind...critters still have to eat! Then to move chicks! And go to work. Good news of the day though...DH is traveling to DePere to do some work until Wednesday and then is going to Ohio on Thursday until Friday! Maybe I can get out the sawzall and open up the staircase?
