Hello everyone!
I have had a pretty busy day and just got back from a trip to Gary, IN
Tomorrow DH has to go into work for a bit, so I will take the opportunity to walk through the woods looking for wild leeks/ramps and morels. Wish me luck (especially on finding morels)!
This morning I went out to open the doors on the chicken run and I heard one of my BR choke on a crow (the one set as my avatar)! At the time I wasn't sure who it was so I crouched down and glared in. It happened 3 more times and I was able to isolate the offender (I mean dinner). Each time he flapped his wings and crowed another BR (I think female) pecked at him! LOL, too funny. Little does he know that he will be in the freezer by tomorrow night (maybe Sunday), I'll leave that up to DH! I am hesitant to do my 2 RIR roos as well. I have optimistic visions that they will not crow and can be kept. Opinions on this anyone?
Other than too much travel and crowing roos, my arthritis is acting up again and I am very sore and stiff. Ugh! A good night sleep and a walk through the woods is just what I need. Well that and some "chicken time".
I have not named any of the chickens to date and need to get on that for the hens at least. Of our 10 straight-run selection, we have 2 RIR roos and 1 hen, 1 BR roo and (we think) 2 hens, 3 RS hens, and one hybrid unknown. My favorite is a RS, the lightest of the 3, and she always come right up to where I am and flies up into my lap to hang out. The chicks are 9 weeks old today and I hadn't expected any crowers this early, nor have we added on the nesting box. Maybe we should get a start on that, LOL!
The hatchling pics are great, keep them coming!
