Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well what kinda bator ya got? I keep humidity between 40-50% all the time. Cloaer to 40 at the beginning and closer to 50 toward the end. Last 2 hatches were 100% for me. Best to just add a tad of water at a time so you don't over do it.
Homemade Styro-chest cooler made from some of my Grandpa's old stuff. I am going to hand turn 3x a day. I am going to check humidity now and see where things have landed. I will check things as we move forward. Thanks for the advice.

Unk... I want some heirloom tomatoes. I don't like juicey tomatoes though. So keep me in mind for a couple meatier kinds. I also like strange and unusual (go figure)! I'll be good for three plants. Also, how are Ann's birds doing?
CC... I miss your smart *** snottiness when you fall behind on here. So stop doing your chores so much and roll over to the computer more often. Freaking overachiever ....
Terri.... If you want to bring me any of those chicks you aren't selling... I dont have enough chickens yet! I figured out when i weed out all the Wheaten roos for new homes or dinner, that leaves me with 9 pullets! I cant sell eggs to people with that! I do have 7 orpingtons of some kind right now. But with culling, selling, or general chick death, i have room to expand!! ! would take 2 Aussies and 2 Ameracaunas....
Jim... Would you please bring me guineas that are about a week old to the bash? That way I can pop them into the brooder with whatever hatches for me this weekend. Have I told you lately you are the Bestest EVER?!
MLH... I am super duper excited to get Icies from you! HOORAY!
WCC... I can't wait for you to get your Wheatens. You'll love them!
Ok... I love all you others but I do have to go now. I hope you all have a super day!
"strange and unusual"........... what a suprise........... I think you're looking for a paste-type tomato. Roma, oxheart or Amish paste are my favs. Overachiever? You don't know me very well, girlie.

You got the smart *** part right, though. Speaking of which, you don't have enough chickens?!?!?!?!? Well, I wonder why? What's with the piddly 2 of this and 2 of that????? What if they are both roos? Have you not been paying attention to everyone trying to teach you proper chicken math here? Tsk, tsk. You need at least FOUR of each. Trust me.

FT, good luck with the camper. Having second thoughts about the tent? If your DH gave his buddy such a great deal on his camper, wouldn't he let you guys borrow it for the weekend?

mxm, I sure hope your hen is ok & is just stunned.

Ken, I've read a lot of the cheesies on here put a wet sponge in their bator for helping the humidity at first. Jim is the knowledge fairy of all things chicken, especially when it comes to incubating. Send him a PM. He's the master bator, right?

Ooohhhhh, I so did not say that..............

Unk, you're a baaaad influence.

So I hung a work light with a 40watt bulb on the hardware cloth that's inside the glass window. Miss Addled Jenny is lying just inside the window/hardware cloth. Can see her breathing. The girls on the roost woke up and got up but didn't leave the roost. Seemed to be quieting down when I left for the final time tonight. I put some sugar'd water next to the patient. Decided against waking her up to drink. She'd shifted position when I went out there the final time. Hope a night's sleep will do her some good.
Doggie's collar only let's her get so far away from the house. So we'll move the tractor to outside her perimeter tomorrow. Gosh darn it. Now to make myself go to bed.

Anyone else have a chicken smack themselves silly in a panic before?

Goo Night

good eve., I just had one of those forever curley light bulbs burn out in my bater room.. what a stench !! the light burned out in one of the TV's too.. it must be the week for burning out bulbs..

rule #1.. don't start a hatch and then try to adjust the bater..

I bought tomato, broccolli, pepper and brussel sprout plants today.. I quit trying to start my own plants years ago.. I cut back to 9 tomato plants this year.. I figure if I take care of a few plants better, I will get just as many tomatoes as if I have a lot of neglected plants.. I never have good luck with peppers either, but each year I think,," this will be the year.."

well, we picked up the two extra bird cages.. One is so - so, the other is built like fort Knox..
and yes, Annie brought one into the house already.. two of the cockatiels got into a fight.. the female had a bloody foot and the speckled one would not let her in to feed the babies.. after Annie put the speckled one into the new cage, she checked on the babies.. WHOA !! there were 3 eggs in there.. were just 2 in the morning.. after about an hour she checked again, and now there were 4 eggs in there.. so we figure that the mother who is setting on the chicks laid an egg, no doubt, but the other bird who we thought was a he, must be a she.. cockatiels lay about every other day,, not twice in one day..

tomorrow Annie is picking up another nest box from her friend,, and ready ??? another cockatiel.. supposedly a boy for our "new" girl.. I had to explain to Annie about chicken math..

I put the two peahens and the young peacock into the lean to.. they accepted the move alright. The chickens who were overnighting in there were a bit put out about it.. they all went to roost on the ladder leaning against the garage.. We carried them into the coop.. tonight there were only 4 on the ladder.. they will learn..

the puppies will be 4 weeks old on Tuesday, next.. they are getting more playful and cuter each day.. they help Nora eat her dog food.. while she is standing and eating her food, the pups stand under her and suckle..

I started selecting lumber for my raised table planters.. I think I will re-plane the planks just to get to new wood.. then I might even throw a coat of urethane varnish on them.. they are cedar 2 x 10's.. I decided to make them 4 ft long x 3 ft wide and waist high for easy weeding.... I even figured out a cover for them to make them into tiny greenhouses and to keep chickens out.. I can even carry them about with the tractor bucket & forks..

......jiminwisc.......

Whoops! Hit the wrong button. Oh well, I should go to bed early anyway. DH woke me up, unintentionally, at 4:30am, then decided to have a quick conversation before leaving for work "since I was up". So naturally I was wide awake & couldn't sleep after that.

Ramses has been feeling much better lately. So good that it is getting very challenging to catch him twice a day to give him his meds. Today he even gave me a quick little growl, the little snot. So the meds are making him feel much better, but unfortunately they are not stopping or slowing the fluid from accumulating around his lungs. This is the 3rd time they had to increase his dosages of meds and add another one to the 4 he is already getting. No wonder he is growling at me.

Hopefully there will be some improvement, because these biweekly vet visits & fluid drainings are getting pretty old, not to mention the bills.

On a lighter note, wasn't it beautiful out today? At least I hope it was for everyone. I got the coop cleaned out, did some trimming, weeding, planted some flowers & greens and spent some quality time with the chickies. Jack sat on my lap for quite a while as Mini Moo sat on my shoulder. Amazingly noone shat on me.
yesss.gif
The lavenders are now the size of Ezmerelda and Moose's kids, which just amazes me. I swear they didn't look that big yesterday. My babies is all grown up. Well, noone has started crowing or laying yet, but they're squalking pretty good when they want to.

Alright, enough rambling.

Didn'tcha miss me? Sweet dreams, all!

I take it Nora is sitting down when she is eating, Jim? That or those pups grew a LOT in 4 weeks!

Those raised planters sound divine. I'll take 2, please.

Maybe a wee bit shorter, though.

Yyyeeesssss! It's paste tomatoes I like. I was going to say Roma's were my favorite, but forgot to. I wonder if Unk messes around with that type of tomato?

I .... Got... A... Camper... Today!!!! I'm gonna get one of those electrical spots at the campground. Bigz says there's plenty!

Libby is not doing good. I don't know what the problem is. She's still swollen and doesn't look any better after her injection this morning. Wait and see I guess.

Off to sleep now..

Quote: nope, I did say standing.. in about another week I think those puppies will be able to tackle Nora to the ground when they want to eat..

I just had another thought for those raised planters. I can use them as brooders and then just turn the poop under and plant my seeds.. multi tasking greenhouses/brooders..

...........jiminwisc........ the master bator.. eh CC?

Thanks CC and I hear you there about the bills! All I can say is I wish it were just as cheap to house a person in the hospital for 4 days as it is a cat...... every day I see improvement; he is eating more and a little more active, but he needs to eat a LOT more than he is. Once his glucose levels even out and the liver enzymes calm down and his bili levels drop I think we will be on the other side of the battle. I'll be happy if he gains some weight.

I told DH that we are getting off cheap with the cats. They have not been to the vet for much at all in 13 years, so this kind of makes up for it.

Duck eggs are looking good; Maggie is sitting on 7, Jules I believe is on 6 and Taffy the overachiever is sitting on 9.....

Off to bed, early Saturday again!
