Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We had the horse just hanging out in the yard today with us. All was fine until he saw his reflection in a window of the house. He went nuts. He wanted at that horse that was in the house. Poor guy. I'm going to put the goats in with him by the weekend, but if he doesn't like them we may be buying another horse.

Another long day, no rain, irrigation starts tomorrow at least a few lines will get setup and hooked to the main, I use drip almost exclusively now, collected the parts and pieces over a few years now it's a matter of getting at it. When mains are all run then I will hook everything to timers seems like overkill but less weeding and exact application of water/ferts, did I mention I have 2500 gallons of warm water tanks?

Hatch note,,,5 survivors of the 16 eggs sent,,when I checked the remaining 9 eggs only had 3 clears,,,,,never had a temp spike that I know of so I'm thinking maybe a humidity problem,,,,next attempt I'll have a new humidastat. OH and if feather sexing works on Ameracanas I have 5 pullets,,,,usually good but I need at least one roo to carry on the color gene ,,,we'll see

cool day tomorrow and night time temp predicted in the 30's GRRRRR

and Jim,,,too much crying in the garden will add salt to your soil, something you can really ***** about

time for a pillow search,, tc folks

Took the chicks in the house today xD The poor babies were panting outside, so I put them in a XXL dog kennel in the AC. I'm starting to think these 2 are both roos, because of their comb sizes. Also, is my australorp supposed to be the same size as my sizzle? They are the same age. I'm overrun with roos haha! But these 2 I'm pretty sure are going to stick together, they are, like, in love with eachother. They haven't even been close to fighting, and if I'm holding one, the other is on the floor freaking out at me. Anyone have a guess at the gender of the australorp? The pics are bad quality so you probably wouldn't be able to tell the sizzle at all.

miserable muggy hot here too and we actually got enough rain this morning to ALMOST knock the dust down.

Just wonderin', since I am such a newbie here, (and didn't make attend the bash) how will I know who is who at the swap meet?

GRRRRRRR! I thought I was finally caught up! Coop finished, girls fairly healthy and seem happy, greenhouse good, gardens all planted and everything up and growing, spring cleaning finally done, even mowed and watered!

I wish that we could get some rain here! Today was hot and muggy. I had hoped by the look of things this morning that it would rain, but the sun came out and so did the heat.

The garden veggies and other plants are so thankful for the water. Luckily our lawn isn't yet brown!

Wolves, racoons, and horses...oh my! Off to see the wizard.

Anyway, the 3 girls are doing well. The are enjoying stretching their wings in the shade of the side yard and eating the grass seed.

The swap sounds fun, but it is quite a distance away from us!

FT...I hope you get that horse. If it is old, at least it will die happy, healthy, and with a full belly!!!

We need to start a new reality TV show. Portraying the lives of chicken owners and the trials/tribulations that follow. Think of how many episodes on predators we can come up with. Let's see...from my memory we have on here....bears, racoons, hawks, wolves, dogs, skunks, large cats (I can't remember which type)..I am sure that there are others that you all have mentioned.

Late evening everyone! We had a brief rain shower this am- plants seemed to like it! Our garden is all planted and we are working on putting hay/straw down to keep the weeds down, can only do so in the early am or later evening as I have to be careful about not getting to much sun otherwise I am sick the next day

Kids have been playing soccer, baseball and softball so that keeps us running in the afternoon.

Have a nice cool breeze here tonight so all the windows can be open!

Enjoy the evening!

Been awhile. Hi again. I sure hope you can help that horse he looks very very sad. Poor thing.

It looks like something tried to dig under my outdoor pen last night. I think it might have been a dog. If it were a fox it would have gotten under the hole so it must have been bigger than a fox. It seems coyotes would have made more of an effort. Hmm. Lucky it is a little cooler tonight because I had to shut all opennings to the coop. Put a few rat traps out with dog food on. Bought a carton of lemonade I should be done with tomorrow to build the fancy dancy rat trap. I wonder if I should attach it to something so it doesnt get carried off? I see some tunnels that were made by moles but believe that something else is using them now.

eta Have a good evening!

I just wanted to caution you on bringing the birds into AC. That going from hot to cold and back can wreak havoc on them. The temps aren't so severe yet that it is dangerous. They will pant, but that is how they cool down. You could add ice to their water, or set up a fan, or hose down an area for them when its really hot. Just don't want you to accidentally send your chicks into shock.

Sorry I dont have a clue on their genders.
