Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning to all!
IT'S RAINING!!!!!
I am so glad...but like Jim I was lazy yesterday and did not get my 4 rows of seeds planted! Darn...they are missing all this great moisture. Oh well...it is what it is! I hope some of the rest of you are getting the needed rain too. We were out in the yard peeling quail eggs and discussing the possibility of rain. I went in to make the pickling solution and DH said "it's starting to sprinkle!" So I had to run out and get the laundry down--mulberry trees do nasty stuff to laundry when it rains! Made it just in time. I was going to go out and feed the rest of the critters but it decided to rain harder...so now I am catching up with you all.
Yes, it rained here too! And we had another batch move through a little while ago, complete with a little thunder & lightening.

This morning while you were getting your laundry, I was out in the carport with the chickens, giving out treats & planning to shovel some schmidt. Luckily I forgot the buckets & by the time I was going to go get them, it started pouring really hard. Shucks! DH came out with his golf umbrella to rescue me since he was watching the radar & it didn't look like it was going to subside anytime soon. Plus I had to get ready to go by his sis's house for a Father's day BBQ and he knows I'm gifted with a chronically late gene.

He is the exact opposite.

But is it that imperative to show up at an appointment 45 minutes early? Really? Ah well.......... We had a very nice time & were only a little late.

Do your mulberries have fruit on them already, Terri?

Bigfam, we can have the bash at your place. No problem. And you can be in charge of it too.

September sounds good to me.

Jim, so sorry about the peachick. That stinks.

Sorry I missed so many, but must sleep! Sweet dreams, all!

That rain felt so good! Didn't stay out long enough to soak, just long enough to confirm it was real!

Lasted maybe an hour. Not long enough to be anywhere near what we need, but with the little bit in the morning to soften things up a bit, then this, it should have soaked in enough to do some good.

Had the coup pretty open so I checked on the girls (and boys). Going to have to do a little sealing around the sun panel, looks like I got some drips.

Well, headache and dishes to do yet so I'll say Good Night.... sorry I didn't respond to people.

Have a nice Father's Day!

Morning everyone!
FT~not sure what time we/I will be going to the swap. It will be in the morning. 10, 11ish. Plan to hang around for awhile. My neighbor friends are going too so I am looking to time it with them. Going to try really hard to come home empty handed but not making any promises

I would really like to bring home a compatible hen, a bit younger, for my coop. What just happened? My type just changed on it's own! CLEARLY not enough coffee yet
caf.gif
. Oh well, have to go out and see if my girls have made breakfast yet, hubby wants one of my famous Italian omelets for his Daddy's Day breakfast

.

Hope to see some of you at the swap today, are we wearing nametags????

BTW~does anyone have any extra feed bags they would be willing to sell me? I am looking for the pretty ones like those from Purina. Yes, I am making the tote bags. Like I don't have enough rainy day projects

Bbp...post a pic of your bags. Would love to see ow they turned out!

Rummage was ok...did not sell as much stuff as I would have liked. Now to post some of the big stuff on Craigslist and try to sell there.

Have a broody...didn't want it, but sure do. Tried dousing her with water...didn't work. Gonna be a hot week for it. Will put some water in by her to make it easier for her.

Happy fathers day to all the dads. We are laying low today.

I just donated most of my bags to the humane society. They're doing the same thing but selling them at the fair for a fund raiser. I'll be sure to have alot more soon. These meat birds are hogs.
Wasn't planning on selling mine. Got hold of the pattern and plan to make some for myself and to give as gifts to my family and friends. Saw a pic on MEN (mother earth news

) and think they are just so cute!! With only 4 laying hens I just don't go thru that much feed, especially this time of year.

That's a neat idea about the fundraiser! If I can get hold of enough bags (Hint to all you out there

) before the fair and mine turn out respectably I think I will do the same thing! Our county has a great Humane society and they are always doing fundraisers as they try to raise money for a new building.

Good Late Morning! Have already been busy. Nice to have more meat in the freezer especially when you know where it came from. Fried chicken and fresh salads tonight!

Read 3 pages and it's gone, think I'm still burnt out from butchering. Could really understand how much better it would be if it wasn't a one man show. Got the hang of the plucker right away no torn skin or bruised meat. Know it's gonna be a couple of days to get the scalded feathers smell out of my nose.

HAPPY Dad's day to whom it applies!

Wakey Wakey Joe!

Now Maggie is outside chomping at the bit to get out of the pen. Too bad chika! Not letting you out until I can get a lawnmower out and chop some of the wild kingdom down. We still have a green lawn due to; 1. Size of yard. 2. Our sprinkler covers the entire yard when we use it. When the lawn is long it makes it rather difficult for those babies to get around. They are growing like weeds! The three I brought to the Bash are already getting feathers and are about 1/2 the size of the adults. The other 9 are doing well too, I do have one of the bunch who does not seem to be growing as quickly as the rest. I'll just keep a close eye on it.

As promised, here is the pic of our re-vamped fire pit.

I have a busy week ahead. I have to get some strawberry picking done, decide on a car, AND I have to do something for my Boss' birthday on Thursday. I am torn between making him a cheesecake or Rum and Coke Ice cream......well I guess I'll think about it today. It looks to be a good day to hit the beach.

Happy Father's Day To All the Fathers....Yep, we were blessed with some precious rain here too!
Praise the Lord for saving the gardens.

I hate to borrow stuff out to folks...always comes back well used. I usually never borrow anything unless the owner is along and in charge. No questions around how it was used then.
Glad the butchering went well Doc...I'm thanful I have Suzie to help hand pluck...we always try to keep it at 2 or 3 at a time.

Good job on the fire pit...I wonder if those poured blocks might crumble from the heat? Time will tell, eh!

Good to hear the pups are getting sold Jim. Was there any profit in the end? I raised purebreds for years, and sold 100's of pups through the years....my best profit came from selling whole litters at a time to pet shops in Madison and Chicago....still in the end it was more work than profit. I'm not about to try it again....25 years of that was enough. I hated no shows from folks that said they were coming to buy.

I'll try the broccoli Cind. What kind of batter is that?

bigz
