Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just got back from a little drive down to Rio - I managed to get a buddy for my Runner duckling after all!

It's a gorgeous little Call duckling that I'm pretty sure is Blue Mallard Pied - dad was Butterscotch, so they all have a dose of the blue dilution, and the females were White. Butterscotch x White should produce Blue Mallard colored ducklings, but these guys must be Blue Mallard Pied because....well, they're Pied.

I'll get pictures later - the babies are still getting used to each other - I'm pretty sure my Runner thinks the Call duckling is an alien!

Good Evening.... Glad you found a companion for the little lonely one. Maybe a good nights sleep will be happening for you tonight after all!

Doc, we just had some light rain that started around 4pm. The gardens really need it. I had the table saw set up outside cutting rigid insulation for the coop. I managed to get one wall done before I had to tarp the saw and grab a cold one calling it a day. Needed at camp in the morning. I sure hope to get the ceiling insulated tommorrow afternoon. Time the javas got a real home.

Terri O sorry to hear about the bum finger. Prolly glad you didn't wack it off, eh! Jim was cutting a overhead door track to size with a grinder, when it slipped and gashed his thigh pretty good. Said he is lucky to still be a man. I hope it heals fast for you. Glad you like the tunes.

Have Fun.... ~ bigzio

TO, I have blue spiderwart AND yellow irisis; not beared though just the plain janes.

Amyable, my inlaws are both Master Gardeners, so I know what you mean. My yard has such an eclectic assortment of stuff, and of course not enough room either....... anybody want purple coneflower, blackeyed susans, hot pink spiderwart, pink asters, varigated grass (NOT the stuff you smoke...), oh yes DAISIES?????? I need to make room for the rarer plants to grow......

Anyway, here is the baby duck!

He is about the size of his little blue friend now. I am open to ideas on what the coloring will end up being on this little guy.

Most Goodly Morning to All! Froggy out there this AM. Enjoying the cool weather! Doing a mountain of dishes then a pineapple right side up cake then finish weeding the big garden. Need to do the small one too but it's going to wait till next week that will only take a couple of hours. Getting things set up for a trip to the camper this weekend. Jacked the lil ones waterer up again and put a coffee can on top of it to keep them off and have to clean up a bigger feeder for them. Their growing so fast. Starting to feather out pretty well. Need to change the the chips in the brooder and the roosting area in the coop. More good stuff for the garden. Will have the neighbor check on them. Looks like some really neat markings on your duckie BL4. Becky sounds like you do have your hands full. Your starting to be as mean as fm with the chicks! We got almost a half an inch of rain here. So many things to do but it really feels good doing it. Don't have the deadline pressure any more just go out and do what I can. And smile a lot! Was out looking for some maples to transplant and found that the blueberries are thick along with the black raspberries now if the grapes come it will add some very delicious jellies, pies, malts, and pancakes to our larder. Better get back to it.

You know, I would have had a good night's sleep - the ducklings are getting along great and they both seem happy and content. BUT, my 3-week-old White Crested Black Polish chick, which I was SURE was a pullet, decided that it needed to start crowing last night. Yodeling is more what it sounded like

- but, it was irritating, and it kept me up. I have GOT to get all these young birds moved out into the garage!

Anyways, here's a picture of the ducklings, they're best buddies now:

I think the little Call might actually be a Blue Magpie or a very "off" Blue Bibbed now that I look at it a little closer. It'll be very interesting to see how she feathers in.

By the way, babylady4 - I'm pretty sure my mom would kill for some Purple Coneflowers and Black-Eyed Susans. We tried to start a bunch from seed this year and only three ended up sprouting.

I have some neat sort of Butterfly Bush that I need to thin out if anyone's interested in that - my mom swears she ordered it from the catalog as a "Butterfly Bush" five years ago, but the foliage is sort of...cabbage-ey and succulent-ish and it has pink flowers.

I'll have to get some pictures, maybe one of you can tell me what it is. I started all sorts of them from pieces we weeded off the parent plant last year and now I have like 7 of the things in pots and I don't know where to plant them.

I told myself I didn't have room to bring birds home, but never said anything about plants, LOL! I think I'll pot up and bring some of everything I have lots of. Seeds too.

Okay, here's mom's "Butterfly Bush"

Can you tell me what it is? It blooms in the late summer, tiny little pink flowers (like Queen Anne's Lace, but pink), dies back in the winter, but comes back bigger and spreads every spring - it's very easy to start a new one by plucking up some of the main plant.

Here's the original plant, about 5 years old now (and competing with the HUGE Variegated Hosta, which needs dividing this fall):

Here's one I started in a pot last year:

And some new ones I just started this spring - they grow fast:

your butter fly bush is a Sedum, and attracts butterflys, the flowers it gets kinda look like a bouquet on top, a Butterfly Bush kinda looks like a lilac bush that dies to the ground every year, your sedum is a lot more hardy than the bush

Nice looking border Annarie

BCC is right, sedum it is. I believe its in the succulent family. It can take neglect, it actually doesn't like much water. I've got a bit in a rocky flowerbed and it seems happy. Hmm, I wonder do chickens like to eat it?

yep i was going to say sedum too and i believe if i remember right it is part of the hosta family .. think that is what my ml told me ... my chickens ate mine this yr so it is not getting to big like it has .. thinking will have to move it and cover it so they cant get to it .. they got a few of my flowers this spring will have to cover next yr too.....

chickens are to fun some time lol
