Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

CC and others~ so sorry for your lack of rain
sad.png
. Can't believe how much rain we've been getting up here! Such a blessing after years of dry summers it is so nice to not have to water every day. I just can't believe the stress is so bad your trees are dying!
You're extremely lucky up there. Yes, our trees, bushes and even the weeds are going the way of the grass, and I just have too many to water.

These are all the leaves that have fallen off my willows:

This is my lawn:

Between the Japanese beetles & the severe drought, my once beautiful plum tree that shaded the run is almost dead.

As you can see, pretty much stuff is dying down here.

We had some nice dark clouds move in a little while ago, and I even heard thunder, but as usual, it's gone.

I got home just in the nick of time. I let the dog out to do her business (which she didn't do this morning and will refuse to do in the rain) and we got in and DOWN CAME THE RAIN!!!!!!

I just hope that we get a measurable amount.

How do you give chicks to a broody lady who is hatching chicks herself?

They have all hatched in the last 24hrs and I want them all together with the same lady, any thoughts?

Ok, Now I'm all caught up! I have to say it took me longer to post the happy rain dance post them we actually got rain. Don't think that we got enough to do much.

The wild birds were thrilled with the rain and you could barely hear yourself think over their singing. Very cool.

The critters are all well and sassy. Went to the grocery store for provisions and got some peaches and blueberries. Made blueberry jam this afternoon and planning on making peach jam tomorrow.
Spoke with TO today and she'll be in tomorrow night. However, she wanted me to tell you that her Modern Game pullet took Champion Bantam at the poultry show at the fair!!

Dan-I do use the rabbit manure for fertilizer. The bunnies have raised cages when they are outside and the droppings just fall through to the ground. I have them inside because of the heat being over 100* last week and this coming week will be over 100* too. So since I don't have a barn where they can keep cool enough so they don't die, I have them in the basement. Not having a ton room for all their individual cages and not wanting the floor to be a complete mess, I have the does in a pen all together and they are one shavings to help keep the floor cleaner.
I normally use the shavings from the coop and the rabbit litter for compost but can't add any more litter to the compost pile....

TO-nice cake!

CC-Sorry that you trees are dying. Mine are looking rather peekie too. Nice pics though!!

BBP-Good luck with the pregnant mare

Well, best got gone...need to figure out dinner...maybe some Cheerios will work...

Hi all, just woke up from a well deserved nap.. I didn't look outside more than a glance, but it did not appear to have rained here..

I took 32 more keets to Marlene.. she sold all 50 of the last ones ..she sent 21 guinea eggs home with me for me to hatch for me.. guess who I ran into there ?
yuppers, Sandi and her DH.. geez, what don't you see when you don't have a gun ?

I didn't catch anything in the live trap last night.. that guinea I am using for bait was stinking already,, I wonder what another day in the hot sun is doing for it ?

I re-mowed the grass along the driveway this morning.. more so to blow the thick dry stuff off of the mowed stuff.. I got the section of garden tilled , getting it ready for the spuds.. the ground is not real good at that end of the garden.. that is where the water washes across and there is really not much top soil left..
I modified the hiller on the tiller a bit, so I really want to see how it will work this way.. I wish I was a better welder,, I would really modify that hiller..

Annie went for a FFF.. she is going to bring a carryout home for me.. this is an old ( I mean established) place with a new owner and a new cook.. the cook is Ken's sil .. he has cooked at other restaurants .. He is a good cook.. the owner is a rich lawyer, and offered Tim a partnership.. for now, Tim turned down that offer until he sees how things are going to pan out .. (no pun intended )

I am curious ,, how is the AC in the chicken coop working ?

I am seriously contemplating getting rid of all of my old (er) chickens.. I have so many pullets to choose from.. I can start a whole new flock.. I think I will keep just either all Delawares,, or the Barred Rocks.. I am leaning towards the BR's.. I am trading the Dels for some quails, so if I need hatching eggs next year, I can get them from Cheryl.. I just have to sneak a roo in with the pullets when I send them to her.. whoops !!! she has a farm, so she is not limited by numbers of animals etc. ..

I am getting hungry.. hope Annie eats her FFF real fast..

.............jiminwisc..........

CC~that is just horrible!! Too tragic for a silly emoticon. Looking at the beautiful plum tree must make you want to cry. We managed to save our little apple and cherry trees during our previous years of drought but it took an incredible amount of work to do it.

It's actually raining here again right now (of course, I hung my garlic this afternoon) with more coming and supposed to storm again tomorrow pm. Boy, I hope not, I am getting really tired of rigging up the generator, switching cords, etc. If the skies clear, we are supposed to be in for a major show from the northern lights tomorrow night!

Congratulations on your blue ribbon for your Bantam!

BBP~I love new foals

Last one I had (many years ago) was named eclipse. Guess when she was born
cool.png
. Her mom was just the sweetest little lady and so tiny and we didn't know who she was bred too (that's one reason I was able to pick her up so cheap) so we were really worried the foal might be too big but right in the middle of a lunar eclipse, in an incredibly dark barn, out she popped with little trouble

The most gorgeous palamino you ever laid eyes on! Hope you have the same good result

Broody butt is still in her cage and boy is she ticked off! She was sulking yesterday but today she puffs up at me and growls!
lau.gif
She's still eating, especially her treats and doesn't try to bite me but refuses to eat from my hand now. I have to let her out tomorrow night because I have to give the coop a good scrub before my family all shows up for a visit. Hope that's been long enough. If not, I just may give up til this latest heatwave breaks because I am going to need the cage for the newbies.

BTW~How do you knowledgeable folks handle introducing new birds into a flock, keeping in mind I don't have a roo?

O No! CC that looks real bad. Poor tree

I must be losing it. I think I have had my oven on for about a week at 250*. Because that is the last time I remember using it and I finally 'noticed' it was on today. As if it wasn't hot enough in here!

I have never been this forgetful I am worried now.

Wow TO that is very impressive! Let's see picture
