Just had a relatively large storm north of us and another south. The south one came up and got us a little bit.. It scared me. Lightning all around, thunder really close... Me and my chickens fared well. Hope you guys didn't get smashed..

Evening All...I was in the stand hunting this evening when the thunder and lightning moved in right above me...holy moly that was enough to send me back home early...what a light show we had.
Suzie canned another 14 qts of V7 today...still have another bushel to can. We still have a full row of beets and a full row of carrots in the ground...the squash is just dying off now..looks like at least 50 squash...some of my hybrids are huge and pretty this year. Picked the last 5 gallon pail of purple sweet peppers. They are done now too.
I was thinking it might be a abscess from the roost against his body bigfam...just a thought.
How's the tractor doing at your house bl4? Has that project started yet? You should park it in the street with big bird sitting in the seat!

HA! I think she should have poultry statues ALL OVER her yard!!! I also think a few duck statuettes would be great. AND I think, gross as this is, she should get real chicken poo to put underneath the chicken statues. Then she'd be able to show the @sses it doesn't stink that bad, as well as say to those close minded folks " here's some sh!t for you too..." I also think popping an egg under a chicken statue would be great too. Like a real life art exihibit. The life of a chicken... ordinance approved version...
I think it is more like cold medicine. I can see why she doesn't like to take it.
BigZ, if the dang mayor knew we had that here he would find some way to tax us on it.... I guess it is going well, he will go out and tinker with it when he has a minute or two. He has the engine purring now...... he has been ripping the wheels apart and re-greasing things (I know he told me what he was doing but in one ear and out the other..) I think he plans on doing some painting this fall.
Thanks BigFam, the DD's BF suggested we fill the yard with duck decoys. I took my copy of the 'Letter' to work today, everyone had a big laugh..... I am a bitter person.... and very unhappy.... and I cause problems everywhere I go....

Jim, I hear ya on the winter blood not kickin in yet. I was sitting here cringing just thinking about going outside in the cold, damp wind this morning. But then I remembered that I didn't have to! Whoo-hoo!
I love that new door! The chickens weren't too anxious to go out in that crap either, though. Moose & his harem stayed inside til almost 4. Guess they didn't care much for all that wind.
Ang, I'm thinkin your hen is shivering because you're putting your ice cold hand up against her naked 100* chest?
Ghost, I hope Adam is feeling better soon & your rotten luck comes to a quick end.
Note to Heather: you should have heard Moose in my living room in the dead of winter.........at 4AM!

Sorry to hear the light show cut your trip short, Bigz. It is thundering with some lightening down here now, but it is mostly off in the distance. Cind might be seeing some worse stuff, but I hope not.
Not much new around here. Had the energy of a gnat today, but I'm kinda blaming that on the crappy weather we had down here for most of the day. The sun did finally come out, but the wind was still really wicked. I couldn't believe we didn't have any trees come down today. Just a bunch of small branches that I was trying to pick up around the yard. I kinda cut that short when I heard a tree creaking & realized it was one of the dead ones that I was a wee bit too close to.
On the chickie front, the clan is all doing good outside, although they liked today's weather about as much as I did.
Didn't get nearly as many eggs today either, although I did notice one of my teens was checking out one of the nest boxes.
Didn't get the coop cleaned out like I wanted to, but there is always tomorrow. Hope I sleep better tonight. Sweet dreams, all!

Hey all finally time to catch up, ....
We had a good storm roll over us, lots of thunder and lighting and pea sized hail, and crazy wind that ripped the cover off my 10x10, glad there is a second tarp under the sunshade tarp, or my puppies would be in the house tonight, as it is everyone's food was full of rain and hail, had to dump it all........... plus there blankets and dog beds are soaked......so had to find some old quilts for the puppies and put Gidget in the garage until her house dries out............. OMG what a light show we had...........
Long busy busy day, the kids didn't pick the Grandson up till 10pm, long day at the hospital form them as well............ DIL was still pretty out of it, but not so much so that she could refuse to take home some supper, she loves my cooking LOL, she was never taught to cook, so we are kinda teaching her........ so she took home a plate of Chicken, tators ,gravy, and squash.........Bet she has it gone b4 bed tonight.
anyway BigZ glad that lighting didn't knock ya outa the tree.. I hate it when storms show up quick that aren't even forecast ed............ arggggggggg to be a weatherman..........hehehe

good evening! Our ride to Donald Park was fantastic yesterday! NIce day...a bit chilly and a little rain but we had a great time. Today started out clear (took a pic of the sunrise) then got cloudy and rained then magnificently sunny...back to cloudy; and finally thunder, lightening and a bit of rain! Sheesh what a weird couple of days! I wonder what tomorrow will bring? I hope it is decent cause I am getting the load of hay I was supposed to get today. Just too unpredictable to be unloading hay today!
BigFam I think what you have there is a breast blister. Doesnt hurt the bird but it messes up the carcass. I had quite a few of my heavy birds that had these when I built my first coop. I then turned the perches sideways and havent seen another one of them. Of course I dont handle my birds a whole lot so there may be some that I dont know about. If it's not hot or painful to him I would just let it be.
I had more to say after reading 50 some posts...but I am so tired that I cant seem to think of anything else...I took some pics today but wont share them right now...another nest of ducks hatched (11) and a chicken has two out so far and has 6 or 7 left to go. I was pretty surprised to see a yellow chick in with the young stock today, I dont generally have plain yellow ones...wonder what it could be? Of course I dont remember what eggs that particular bird was on either...
