Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good AM, I called my brother in Rhode Island last night.. He is fine.. lives 40 minutes from the coast.. had lots of rain and wind, but only the the 40 MPH kind.. He used to live in Fla.. lost his shrimp boat to one of the recent hurricanes that hit around Ft Meyers Beach..

Dave, If and when you catch that chicken, she will prolly turn out to be the friendliest one you end up with..

going to brave the wind and try to finish the roof today.. at least as far as ready for shingles.. I can still slide the getting heavier coop around, yet.. Once I get the loader back onto the tractor I will be able to lift it with the forks.. I put hurricane clips on all the rafters, so I can come up under the eaves for lifting..

I have to plane a bunch of pine for trim today, also..

I wish it was not so cold out.. I would like to paint all the exposed wood on it.. I would have to use a brush because the wind would blow the spray away ..

cuppa is cold..

Here's a pic for you guys...

My family.. in England.. with "chickens" on our heads. A co-worker of my husband (they worked in barcelona previous to our England trip) has a thing for rubber chickens... just because no matter who he hands one to they always make a person smile. So he gave these.. um hats(?) to Ben and made Ben promise we'd take a pic for him. I have a glass of yummy yummy sherry in my hand! They kept a decanter in our room!!!!! ohhhh that sherry and i made friends real quick. Dudes this is in the CASTLE that we stayed in for 3 nights! We're sitting on the fireplace's raised hearth. (ours backs are so nice and toasty!) Freaking HENRY VIII and Anne "heads will roll" BOLEYN stayed here!!!! Gotta love the history in England, Blows my mind.
Our silkies can do only tiny ramps and only one will willingly try to perch on low branches but it was not raised with silkies and does not beleive that it is one.
Marge.... LOVE THE UK. I'm the Scottish traveller myself, but will do England again. Sigh... Wasn't it just wonderful to get out of here and experience something wonderful and new?
I was going to do the half for Haunted a hustle and NEVER train for it. But du to illness and yuck weather I went down to the 10k. I told you I was slow, but I ran the whole 10k in 1 hr 11 min. I was just so darn happy to run 6 miles!
For future interest MXM... Chicago has a race called Chicago's Perfect 10. It's a 10k or 10 miler. I'm doing the 10k in a couple weeks. Next year my running goal will be the 10 miler. The year after will be running a full half (most likely). So write that down that race for next year, may be we'll run it together!
Awesome Heather! Way to get out there! That would be really great to aim for the Chicago Perfect 10 together, but gack, maybe we should pick a race that won't be so freezing!
Sitting down for supper last night with the DH and kiddos when my sweet red headed DS8 tells us about a huge storm coming to New York that would bring lots and lots of sand, and was going to be really bad. It took us awhile to figure it out, and almost died laughing when we realized he was talking about Hurricane Sandy!

Kids are so funny sometimes.
DS9 and DS3 are sick. I was up all night with one or the other. I told them I was going as a Zombie for Halloween and I didn't even need to buy a costume. Point proven at the grocery store when one of the clerks said that I looked a little under the weather. I said no my children are. She just said ,"oh, that'll do it".

Came home from the store and saw the chickens enjoying my MIL's wheelbarrow full of after the garden goodies. Hope you all have a great autumn day!
That is hilarious about your son's take on Hurricane Sandy! priceless. So sorry to hear about the illness in the house. No fun. My husband is getting over Strep, daughter is coming through a cold and I'm just starting in on sinus fun and games. Welcome cold weather, right? This chickies have such a rich color in this pic! Did you futz with it? Really beautiful!
My 4 BCM and one Penedesenca hen finally started laying. I expect the eggs to get bigger once they are fully mature... The bcm's are sure some chunky hens, and big beggers... always wanting a treat!

Beautiful dark brown! Thanks for posting! So cool!
Evening all,

Guess what, My neighbor saw the missing banty in his yard, He called me and then went out to try to catch her. By the time I got there, she had flown away and he didn't see where. ;( so tomorrow I will put out more feed for her and search for her after school
Wish me luck.
Aw, luckety luck luck!
Oh MXM I am so JEALOUS! One of the items on my bucket list is to travel Europe! I would LOVE to go to Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece...... I have said I would have to bring clothing with elastic waistbands since I would be eating soooooooo much everywhere I went! I bet I would gain an easy 20 lbs! I figure I need a good 3 weeks to see what I want to see......

I have not been running..... I need to get myself motivated to get my lard butt out of bed at 5 AM in order to run...... I have signed up for swimming lessons though. I start tomorrow. If I am going to be doing this triathlon in August, I figure I need to be able to swim for more than 5 minutes without becoming exhausted......
Yeah, I'm sort of staying off the scale right now....
Cool about the swimming lessons! Have you gotten to it today yet?

Dan -ooooo the apple sauce and apple butter stinking up the place sounds so lovely right now!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
This is the best day of the year! I LOVE Halloween!!! Stay safe for all the Trick-or-Treaters going out tonight!!

Have yet to get the critter chores done. Got to sleep late last night since I could not go to sleep so I'm dragging a little.
Took the meaties yesterday and I pick up the carcasses today. Some will be a good size and some will be a little light but I'm just glad they are gone!!

Other then that not much going on here. I did get a bag of candy just in case I get any kids looking for candy but I doubt it. We are pretty far off the beaten path even though we are in a little community we just don't get the kids. But always be prepared so I got some candy I like...you know just case...Murphy's Law and all

Well, I'd best get a move on....
Later!

Good morning! Lots to catch up on! Welcome back travelers :) So I had a nice post written yesterday at this time and the power flickered, went off, came on, flickered, then of and finally back on. It was enough to lose my post and kill the internet service! I decided since I had no computer that I could actually DO something in the house since we werent riding...got the parrot moved in to a smaller cage and put him in the bathroom. Got the caged cat moved into the backroom with another cat for a "roommate" and cleaned ouot my finch cages. I was reallly tired after that so I didnt cook dinner and the kids put in some pizza. Then I got a call from my riding buddy that she was roasting one of her meaties and could I come to dinner? Well SURE! So I picked up a bottle of wine and headed there. The chicken was really good and tender...now I am thinking about getting a few for next year and feeding fermented food to them--I hear they grow a bit slower and dont stink as much that way....we will see.

So Happy Halloween everyone! Got a cute message on my phone from a 4Her and a cool email from CC too! So the day is complete! I even didnt sleep too badly last night so I have a tiny bit of energy today...and the sun is shining! No wind here but it is chilly...thinking it's a flannel lined jeans ride today! We are heading out to Sun Prairie to ride at the park. Just a short one.

David--sent you a PM. I advised him to try a trap for that chicken...sheesh, I always catch my chickens when I try to trap stuff!
Well now that MXM and Amyable have shown up we are only missing a few souls here...

Be careful all of you who are Trick or Treating tonight! Bring a big coat! My Dad used to take us and he brought a shotglass. We only ever made it down the block and back....hmmmm.

Hello all!

happy Trick or Treat day to you! After fun prepping lots of a fruit for a pumpkin made of fruit for kids classes(x2) and making chili for work potluck I am feeling ready to go. In laws picking up old dog later, got to sneak in some quick chicken chores and then off to Trick or Treating.
Have to find a way to talk DH into a puppy... I have decided that the kids are old enough and I am the one that is home the most with dog. I found a great rescue down near chicago that gets puppies ( all I have spoken to in WI say that they have 5 months and up because they wont release them until they are fixed) and has some really cute mixes. I know I cant just go pick up a dog because he will flip out... totally, so have to convince him. He grew up with dogs, I didnt. We had our dog for 8 years before it flipped out and decided it didnt like the babies in its house. So we have done it before. ugh. the rest of us love animals... he just has to figure it out!

Kristi I'm in the exact same boat! I'm thinking I'm ready for an inside dog. I am waiting because I've sprung animals on hubby before, a puppy from Kentucky once, almost caused a divorce!!! I'm hoping the dog sitting goes well for everyone here so I can convince him. Or I'm hoping its sooooo bad it'll change my mind. But not make me really want one while he still says no... That would suck!

Had to pick up a sick kid from school. he shouldn't trick or treat I think! I'm making him go to the dr too. We don't come home from school for nothing...

Kristi... Which rescue are you looking at? I've been looking at so many....

BF- Secondcity canine rescue down near Schaumberg. If you find any others that have puppies, let me know. I talked to a few throughout WI. So many dont have under 5 months and for chicken training and kid training, I prefer one I can mold myself. I am looking for something under 50 lbs. Would love a spaniel, but i am open. Cant be too tiny or Andrew will squash it. he just runs and doesnt always look. Fast kid! Will be an indoor dog here also.
What breeds do you prefer BF?

Oh also check Puppy Love Rescue on facebook... they are near west bend/milwaukee area

Hi Everyone, Happy Halloween to you. I just stopped by the let you know that I have 2 BCM Roos that I need to rehome. They are about 5 months old and ready to do their thing. I also have a Silver-Laced Wyandotte gentleman that can go too, if someone is interested. I am located about an hour north of Eau Claire. -L

wow you guys are talkative today. thanks for all the good wishes

Jim be careful on the roof.
dr. Ha ha love the feral chicken
Terri O thanks for the idea, Need to see if I can find one.

I am so wiped. I have 176 students and they all seem to care about missing work now that they realize the quarter ends on Tuesday. Getting ready for the trick or treaters. Dogs hate it because they have to stay inside. So far only one. It runs 4-7. I pity the city folk, 3 hours seems way too long. A friend told me she had 400 kids last year, then ran out of candy We are lucky if we get 10, but it is nice, I can give them huge treat bags

Stay safe.
