Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Terri - I'm supposed to contribute $10 or $20 a month when I'm running all the incubators and heat lamps. I never actually do - and I do so much around the house (all the cooking, babysitting, etc.) that I don't think mom cares. She loves all the chicks and ducklings just as much as I do anyways.

I am financially responsible for all the duck and chicken feed (as well as my dog's food and vet expenses), and all the duck pens, chicken coops, and fencing I've put up on the property though - so at least I'm not sponging all that off mom.

The foster kittens are going back to the shelter tomorrow for a second round of shots and dewormer - I finally managed to get a picture of all 5 of them (minus one's head), and one of gorgeous momma cat (she's moving into the spare bedroom tonight, she's trying to wean them but she can't get away from them!):

FM, didn't actually pick a boys name yet (referenced Noah as in Noah's Ark, flooding...sorry, bad joke.) We had the hardest time agreeing on "Ethan", its going to be trouble if this one's also a boy. At least if we have a girl, we'll just use the girls' name from before, Ella Elaine. I'll check back for approval here when we finally decide for a boy.
I don't quite know how many chooks Julie has; she said I have more, so something under 37. BUT she has 6 ducks too, she's beating me there. She picked up 11 pullets over the weekend (wanted 6 to replace the killed ones, but she has no self control, lol.) Also, if anyone knows anyone who would like a very very friendly but livestock-incompatible male Border Collie....poor Julie, her fam really likes the dog, but he took out another chicken this week, so what can she do? He really is a very nice dog, I can attest to that, but just cannot be trusted around critters (he is fine with dogs and cats though.) Sound a bit familiar, huh Annarie? I do hope you find a home for your guy too! I LOVE GSD's but obviously he wouldn't be a good fit here: 1 GSD and 3 cats and lotsa birds.
I can't believe it's the Forth this weekend already. Does anyone know if Green Bay has a good show? Last year we were in Marquette and 30 seconds after the show started Ethan wedged his head into my neck and refused to watch! He likes the lights but not the booms. Hopefully this year is better.

OK Amyable--I will bite...I am looking for another BC. Mine was lost due to poisoning. I need a stock dog--to work geese...just how "killer" is this dog of Julie's? I also need him for goats and sheep--does the dog herd? Can you contact me? I have playmates for him--2 other BCs and a Parson's Russel Terror that LOVES to kill chickens!

I was wondering a bout that name thing...thanks for clearing that up for me!

Here are the pics of my cool drake and the cutest chicks EVER!
The muskovy drake that I want to try to breed with the "mule"

And the Mom to the left...wondering HOW her chicks got in the "house next door?"

Isnt that funny? I candles all her eggs tonight and only one was a quitter...put the rest of the eggs back under her to let her go another day. She has 6 now and two pips. Not sure about the other 7 or so eggs. All I could see was NOTHING in the eggs!

THey were only DARK--the quitter I could tell because it was mostly clear. So what am I looking for when I candle at hatch-time? Thanks for any advice--Terri O

Ear muffs or ear protectors. My girls are the same way. I use the ones that hunters use when target shooting. They girls look hillarious in them but they work. No tears since and my youngest is so funny about loud noises.
I LOVE fireworks too FM! I can't wait for this weekend. We are stopping in Lomira on the way up north to get way to many, and then going to have a show off the pier on Sunday. I'm itching to go already.

TO- All I can say is I relate to your rant and feel your pain. I earned everything I have they should too. Wether it be in chores or an actual job. We are going through the same thing with the oldest DD wanting an endurance saddle. Doesn't do a thing for it but wants us to help her get it. Ok now I'm stepping of the box.
Good day here. Played outside and was getting the animals ready for a long weekend away. That in it's self is alot of work. Why are vacations never really vacations for moms? Ok now I need to call my mom in the morning and tell her I love her. Have a good one!

Beautiful Morning All! TO You would think that S & or M would at least call to keep you from worrying. I can understand the not writting it'a no thumb thing, the cats use that excuse all the time. Hope they tire of their adventure and return home soon! Those are some cute chicks! Bec think that making your own way makes you a better person. You tend to appreciate what you have. Too many spoiled kids out there! It get worse every generation. Hope your weekend is a memorable one and YOU get to have fun too! Call your mom! Amyable wait till your son finds out you named him after the dog. Shame on you!

BL4 I knew about your own power tools and was only teasing about the belt. Sure is nice to have cordless tools, really handy. Very little fighting the cord anymore. Spent nearly 7 hours weeding the cuc's yesterday only 1/3 done. A large wheelbarrow full taken out. Have to get a small cavity filled this morning and do some running. Don't know if it will cool enough to do more in cuc's or not the sun hits them first but there's the mater garden to go through in the shade till around noon. Nice breeze again so it might doable. Enjoy your Day!

Game plan today is the get the bathroom and hallway painted so the washer and dryer can go back in and get the toilet and vanity in. I have a 2 hr training session at work this morning to break things up a bit but I want my bathroom functional by tonight! And I know I have a TON of laundry waiting in the wings to get going on........ someday on my day off I will get some jams made.......

The 'grown up' ducks are enjoying their pen outside. They do not quite understand why their 2 legged featherless friends do not join them all the time but I think they are happy with their new digs. The kids have named the one we hatched out Maggie and right now the other two have been dubbed Bonnie and Clyde but that could change.

The babies are growing quite well; had some issues with the little black one not eating right away but he has gotten over that! They are so cute! I'll have to get them outside at some point today and get them swimming so they get themselves cleaned up a bit.

Well I better run so I get something done!

Good Morning!

Hey is anyone else unemployed? Me and DH both worked at the same place, both got laid off and both are on unemployment. This happened 2 months after our wedding and after we bought our house
sad.png
It's hard. But, we are both up for our extensions right now, and we haven't gotten unemployment for over 3 weeks! We don't know what do!! I've tried calling unemployment (and still do, on the phone right now) and I don't even get their automatic menu, just a busy signal. I hope our extension kicks in fast

Or hubby gets that job. I've been applying and applying, but no such luck. It's hard out there right now!!!

On a happier note,

I am going with a girlfriend to Barthel Fruit farm up in Mequon to go strawberry and sugar snap peas picking!! Then when I get home hopefully I can make some rhubarb and strawberry pie filling and can it! Sugar snap peas i'm gonna keep a small amount in the fridge and freeze the rest away. My friend makes strawberry jam, I might do some of that, but we are going to have blackberry jam and cherry jam already...so I don't know! I love pick your own! Me and my other friend go to door county and pick tart cherries by the bucket full that we freeze and use in pies, cobbler, jam, you name it!

I can't wait until we have our own little hobby farm and start homesteading even more. It's such a good feeling! I also can't wait until the farmers markets open down the road (next week!) I HATE buying produce at kick a slave (TM) (used to work there, employee code

I hate waiting for paint to dry.........

Raiquee I hear you there! We bought our house as an investment to fix and sell so that we could get a place out of town and have some land to live off of. I figure the ducks will be a big incentive for the DH to get his behind moving on getting all the little odds and ends of all our projects finished so we can actually move!

Ok off to watch some more Bones while I wait for the paint..........
