Oh yeah, Frenchie is back.

Still trying to play catch-up, but you just know I had to voice my opinion now.

Ahem, chickenscratch, may I politely recommend that you ditch the Layena? I am reasonably sure your hens laying problems will then cease and desist. Nuf said.

If you have a whole crapload of that feed left, mix some oyster shell in with it. That should help to try to solve your soft shell issues, and should not adversely affect your RIR. As Jim said, get a cheaper feed if you want to add supplements, or better yet, get a better quality feed so you don't have to add supplements (and a better quality feed doesn't necessarily have to mean a higher cost). DuMor will give you much better results and is slightly cheaper than Layena. HTH

BTW, one of the Stella babies looks like your Moose babies . The other is just plain black.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but we headed nort for the weekend, then I've been trying to catch up on the laundry & cleaning.

Not much time to sit around and be queenly.

That is odd about Stella's babies being black. I thought the barred gene was dominant? All of Mooses kids so far have been barred, and his grandkids too. Oh lordy, Moose is a grandpa!

So where are the pics of Stella's babies anyway?

I'm sending them to the brooder out in the coop this weekend. I'll take pics then. But the black Stella baby may have been fathered by the Lav Orp. That babies looked just like your black Orp babies...

I swear I inhale half the pool every lesson...... but I am getting better (I think).

I have some crazy budgies..... anybody want one for Christmas? Hand tamed? The little snot went after one of our new budgies with a vengeance today.... and no one was here to put a stop to it so we are down one bird. They started getting into it this weekend, last night was really bad. I was hoping we had solved the problem somewhat by clipping the psycho's wings, but no such luck. I have no idea why she would go bonkers and take out after that one bird...... they are all behaving quite well now.

That is it for here. Thanksgiving was good and I am happy we do not have any leftovers.

here are the nest boxes I built near Middleton, Wi.. disregard the middle picture.. got in there by mistake..

the nests are built into the wall and eggs can be collected from outside of the occupied side..

both sides are on hinges so that they can be opened up for easier cleaning from either side..

Took a chance with the waterer in the coop. I took the heat element from a heated dog dish and set the waterer on it with a squashed pie plate between. Hope it works.

The marvelous TO and I got 'er dun yesterday! It feels so good to know that every member of the family will do a happy double take for the next few days every time they pass through that porch! Love it! I heart you Terri! Kick the azz of the family member who tries to leave anything on there!

Crazy Hair Day at school for the Chloe girl is almost here! We had practice time when she got back from school yesterday. Dudes, I'm making it look like she's got a Christmas Tree on her head!

Dr. Ha, you were taking about us MIAs having lives? Yes this is what I do when I'm not on BYC. It looked awesome!!! Will post pictures of the final do tomorrow

Speaking of Christmas Trees, the last time TerriO and I got together I bought a little one for 8 bucks at St. Vinny's. Btw I highly recommend going to St. Vinny's with Terri.... what a silly time we had together. So the Doug half of Hens & Roos has been over here with bro-in-law Tom, building a pole barn for us. Everybody knows that buildings in the midst of construction have a Christmas Tree on top of them! So after I decked the $8 tree out with way too many lights, Doug and Tom put that tree on top of the being-built pole barn. Friends, it's a thing of hilarious beauty.

The question is: what is it with me putting Christmas trees on top of everything?
