I remember one time that we had bought chicken wings, the whole wing, from the grocery. I was supposed to cut the wing apart for some recipe I was making...just about passed out...c-r-u-n-c-h...

LOL,

Come on down to the skinning shed we will toughen you up! Last year when we were cutting heads of the meaties, my daughter (4) came over and asked if she could do it so I handed her the knife and she did one, but that was enough for her! There is a clear understanding of life, death and food at our house! Oh and she doesn't discuss it often outside of the house for the people that think food comes from the grocery store already packaged.

Also since honesty is a virtue, I too get a little squeamish but never enough to stop me and this is the only time I'm admitting to it! This post may self destruct!

I just came back in .. I helped Annie pen up the turkeys.. all except Tommy and my banded hen..

we have 10 in the pen..

I have killed prolly thousands of chickens.. It is a job I do not especially like, but it does get easier after awhile. I have no problem with the meat/carcasses afterwards..

FT, you must have dealt with some butt ugly babies if you can see a resemblance to a chicken carcass..

My eye aches today.. but not as bad as early this AM.. I was just out in the bright sunlight,, that hurt.. I figure by tomorrow I should be over the pain..

DrH, eye pressure is very bad for glaucoma,, check with your Dr the next time you go.. Cataracts can be fixed,, glaucoma is irreversable..

Yea, I can do ok with anythiing dead, it's the killing I have to come to priorities with. "Butt ugly babies" no way you said that. ROFL. I got a contestant for biggest butt hen......oh and "guess what?...........chicken butt." never knew what that meant but seems fitting.

Hey, if anyone wants to vote, I am in a photo contest on Facebook. Hunt the North is the Facebook page. If you go to the page, click photo contest and like whatever one is your favorite. My husband has one titled "1st Mule Deer". Mine is "Marmot". We would appreciate any votes. It would be pretty funny if my little marmot beat the kodiak bear killer. You can vote for 2 pictures every day.

Evening folks! Nice ride today...except when we were heading to the West the wind was pretty bad. GOt a call while I was in that wind from my client's son...I was afraid of what he was going to say but he threw me for a loop for sure...his BROTHER died! (My client's son!) Wow--I totally did not expect that! Dave didnt come to give his dad morning meds and breakfast on Monday. His brother was at my client's place at lunch when I arrived and seemed pretty ticked that Dave "forgot." Turns out that he laid down on his couch and passed away! He was diabetic and had just had some wound therapy in the hospital last week...wow. I am floored...he was 58. I guess you just never know when your number comes up...

Making a roast chicken on a can tonight along with mashed and gravy and a whole stem of brussels from the garden. THe chickens have been working on those brussels pretty good. I still have a HUGE pot of them...going to make some hollandaise to go along with them! MMMM. THanks for the idea BL4...LOL--couldnt get the thought of mashed potatoes and gravy out of my head after her dinner the other night...sorry Jim!

You sound like you have lots of willpower though! Good job on skipping those spuds in the soup. I know that they are high on the glycemic index but I dont think they have a whole lot of calories when they are PLAIN! (perhaps I am wrong though)

Tommy is enjoying the trimmings from the sprouts and some mealies on the side. What a spoiled roo!
I did a phone interview with the Oconomowoc client's daughter today. I took a few shifts...will see how it goes. Some days and some nights. Not too crazy about that long of a shift though...7am-5pm and 8pm-7am. I guess the $$$ ads up quicker though.

The chicken is starting to smell pretty darn GOOD! Guess I better get the potatoes ready. Later! TerriOwitharumblinghungrytummy

Glad I could help you out Terri, I just wish I was raising my own chickens for butchering! I would much rather roast 7-9 lb chickens than the 4-5 lb ones you can get.... then when I roast two of them I MIGHT end up with some leftovers!

We had Flank Steak along with the leftover mashed potatoes (they cleaned me out of gravy last night).

My thoughts on the whole pregnant deer in November is this; animals do NOT always expel a dead fetus. This leads to mummification INSIDE the body. It has been documented in horses, cows, sheep, pigs, and even people. This is why I believe those fetuses were in the process of becoming mummified and were NOT going to be born in December. This would not cause any harm to the Doe either, she would have carried those fetuses inside her until she died (she would hopefully not be able to reproduce either).

Fun day today, went to the UW and set up the Strawberry DNA lab, raced to NL to go swimming with my sis and her kids. Had coffee and a scone for lunch, raced home to pick up the DD so she could drive to town to check out the 'Ugly' Christmas sweater collection the local Goodwill has to offer, then came home for dinner and kicked back to watch a little Bonanza with the family. Work tomorrow...... I wish I could have gotten to my windows.....

I hope all of you have an enjoyable evening!
