Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ever feel like you are running in circles and never getting anything done... that is my week. Went to bed at 9 because I was exhausted and there went my dreams of getting laundry done or starting some jerky I was going to make... between just feeling run down and work and the puppy and my kids and their social life... I am beat. And we have the cutest thing in the world tonight... the kids Christmas concert... cant wait!

so there is my whine... all done... hoping tomorrow can make up for the mess...
getting 3-6 egs a day... some days good and other days not. How do cochins lay for others that have them... mine is 9 months old and not sure if she is laying yet and if she is, it is worse than the silkies. I have one more I am not sure is laying yet.. and two that I am patiently waiting to lay in next month or so. so out of 15 birds, it is not horrible. I know that 2 of my three silkies just dont lay.

ah well.. gotta work out meals for this weekend soon. get grocery shopping. Next week is ugly busy too but then the week before Christmas I dont think we have anything besides kids home half day on Monday and Friday. Planning the big fancy work party for christmas this year. Next weekend sot hat is what is taking up my work time right now. oy vey! Everyone stay warm.

My Freedom Ranger hen has been missing for quite a while. Like weeks. I assumed she got eaten by a fox because she was big and slow. Well, my husband found her dead in the yard today and she was still warm! She had no signs of injury. Could it be possible that she was on a nest?! I can't find a nest and honestly, I don't really want to. Her BF was my bantam cochin roo.

I should have thought of this earlier, but we have a big stack of coupons for $10 off 2 bags of Layena at work. I could have taken some and mailed them to you guys who use that kind of feed. :( They expire at the end of the month. There were horse feed coupons too, but I gave those all to customers already.

Your instincts are probably correct.

I feel like that often when I don't make a list. It seems I get absolutely nothing done... yet I get up at 5am and don't stop till 8pm. If I make a list it seems I have gotten much more done.

You have a full plate and probably need a me day. Make an appointment and go get a pedicure.

I do not have Cochins. What I have read they are exhibitor breeds and pet breeds and not for egg production. Same with silkies. They are great setting a nest, just not there own.(They are beautiful birds)
If you want egg production, invest in some Heritage breeds like Road Island Reds and White Rocks. They will pay for themselves in eggs for years. They thrive on free range and you have to feed them practically nothing during non freezing seasons. I am prejudiced. I have both. They are old birds and are still laying, same with there mom and grandmoms. I have kept a few hens from them and I am hatching out some RIR next week for the hatch out.

My cochins have not recovered from the molt yet. Its been like 2 months. When they did lay it was never close to daily and the eggs where small. They are beautiful to look at, but not much use. I will report back on how they taste if eggs do not start happening soon

good afternoon, I am back from the Vet with the puppy.. got a booster shot and a lymes shot.. have to go back in two weeks for the lymes booster shot..
he gained 10 pounds since his last visit.. weighs 39 pounds today.. he still doesn't like the car ride.

Don't be so hard on your chickens that aren't laying.. some breeds just are not cut out for egg production.. and some are sort of seasonal layers.. they lay in spring and summer the best..

I just sent off some cockatiel pictures to a prospective buyer.. these are what I sent.. these guys are only a few weeks old.. they are a bit camera shy so the poses are not the best..

the speckled one in the background is daddy.. his name was Pearl, but after he started mating, we changed it to Earl..

I just got a call from the tractor guy.. He is going to order a set of points and then deliver Ollie to me.. prolly early next week.. (after we get a good dumping of snow ??)

Hi all...I am tired and dont feel like going outside to close up...what's new hey? I thought Carol was coming this morning but didnt hear from her...wonder what happened? My hay guy came over and borrowed my ram in stead. He says he is too skinny; I said bring him back fatter. He gets the job done so...I told him to watch out though cause he feeds his animals tons of corn--I dont. The last one he got he killed with grain. (wasnt mine)

Made tenderloins sandwiches with sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms. Also had some guacamole and chips from the Mexican grocery...YUM! DH is at some Christmas party thing tonight and DD thought he wasnt coming home...I thought he was. We will see I guess.

OK--now I have heartburn...too much guac I guess...better get the chores done and head to bed.
Nighties chicken people! TErriOtakingsomecalmacidandheadingoutside

Slow day today at work. Happy I did not have to skate in on ice! Looks like a snowstorm in the near future though....

My oldest DD took the practice ACT exam a few weeks ago.... and did really well! I am so proud of her! She really shocked me with how well she did, I know she is smart, but her school performance does not always indicate her intelligence level.

CC, glad you still have Ramses for a while longer. Perhaps all he really needed was the antibiotic.......

One of my friends dogs killed a neighbor's pet chicken today. What is the appropriate compensation? I told her to ask the people and offer them $10-20..... they are bent on her getting rid of her dog..... another saga....

That is about it. Pretty boring here.

Hi All!

DrH...If you didn't go to bed dirty, you wouldn't have a cat trying to clean you in your sleep! Or maybe you just taste good!

Wow that's a nice buck! Did I count (barely) 16 points!?

Judge.... LOVE that first pic! How cute! He looks like a sweetie! Glad he didn't get sick. BTW how is the roo? Is he still working out and doing his job?

CC... glad your back! Well, with Ramses home you can spoil him for awhile and say your goodbyes. I know it's hard, but with luck he'll go peacefully at home.

Well, no one came for the last kitty... here I thought she would be the first to go! Well, maybe soon. Picked up a bag of scratch from TSC today, I think I'll go back to mixing my own. It's real fine and it was kinda dark when I opened it, but didn't look like the good mix I make.

OK, that's it for now.... night all!
Thanks- he is a honey. And the roo- which my DS9 named Colt- is great. He seems to be enjoying life, and gets along with everyone. We love him!
