Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Cold Morning everyone. It was -15 at our house this morning! Yikes. The Jeep didn't really want to start, but it did! Some pipes were frozen in the bathroom, but got them unthawed and letting them drip a little today.

Nice chicky picts. Thanks for sharing.

Nice stove, too. Will be beautiful when it's cleaned up.

Good luck with the rest of the hatch Judge!

Nice "brisk" morning in the north country,

glad to see TO lurking, I can't wait to here the storey

no bulb in those heaters Joe,,,,the small one is 32W if you scroll to the bottom of the page the specs are given,,,not cheap but safe and a WI product. I googled and found a side by side test with the Brinsea they high lighted the differences

Heather a great family heirloom, somewhere there will be a date, might be buried or on a casting mark,,,odd seeing a stove from this era from Washington there were some major foundries and stove makers here in the midwest,,,interesting

the girls will get some straw to kick around today, going to be nasty cold tonight the alfalfa hay around here sucks, but I have some friends that have been feeding cubes, the bags are $14, they soak a single layer in a bucket overnight,,,,they swell up and fill the bucket then they feed them, think I will get some to change up the diet a bit

ok, time to forage some breakfast

Good freezing morning all! -8 here when I got up and started the feeding circus. Peggy's dogs spent the night--they slept good--me not so much! They live on a very quiet road far back so every time a car (or the plow) went past they thought someone was here and barked....I'm a little tired. THis morning they thought the garbage guys were stealing our stuff! Now everyone is at peace...

So went to the jail last night with 2 of Peggy's other friends. The deputy was very nice but we accomplished nothing; as I told the woman that was gun-ho to drive from VERONA in the weather last night! She just called me now...and now she just called again. Cripes these people are battier than Peggy is! Now her other friend called and so did her landlord! Now the jail just called me and I get to spend JUST $9.99 to talk to an inmate. Oh yeah..I will have to plug my phone in soon!

Started this message over an hour ago...friend is going to court today to get charged. They think with Reckless Endangerment. He also thought that she would be out on bond today but not sure if the judge will go for a signature or set a $ amount. I guess that is better than Attempted Murder! (but it is still a felony charge) The old roomie said they dug a slug out of the side of the barn...also that the Humane Society was coming to get the animals. The deputy said no about the animals...wouldnt comment about the slug.
Gotta run---many chores to do at two farms today-stay tuned for the next episode!

Oh yeah...Jim that hen turkey looks just like mine. She is a Narragansett x Royal Palm; maybe yours is too?
A couple pics from yesterday:
Here is my kitchen stove...very similar to yours BigFam but mine is the updated version!

I agree with Dan though...you might wreck any value that it has by painting it! I would fire her up and see how it works...and leave it as it is. The silver parts on mine are Nickel. It polishes up real pretty with a metal polish like Rolite. Do a google for some--it is great stuff!

This bird was alive a half hour before this pic was taken:

Yuo, another one of the meaties bit the dust! I went to feed them and everybody had some food. Then I went to get the water for them and one was dead on it's back!
barnie.gif
I grabbed it (it was dead) and slit the throat so it could at least bleed out some. Then I brought it inside and butchered it up....dinner for tonight!

OK--that's all for me.

good AM, TerriO, talk about excitement !!!!!!!!

I agree with Unka and the rest,, I would not paint the stove .. Nickel is notorious for "peeling" .
IDK how to fix it.. I would break off the curled up pieces, but I am not saying you should do that.. the plain casting can be cleaned really nicely with a paint stripper mounted in a drill..
that is how I cleaned up my tractor parts,, rusty manifold, engine block, etc.
. It will take the rust and paint off right down to shiny metal in short time and much faster and cleaner than a wire wheel. be cleaner, I do not mean less dusty.. remember, you are removing rust,, it has to go somewhere.. in my case , it was all over me..

I bought the paint strippers at Fleet & Farm.. Not real expensive, and they do not disintagrate like the wire wheels do.. they are a rigid type material made by 3M..

a good outside job for in the summer months..
and set the stove in the shade,, Not as I did and set up shop in the sun.. Duuhh,,,

then I would paint only the plain cast iron with stove black.. If the parts are going to get hot, like the side panels of the fire walls.. fire the stove up OUTSIDE the building because the first time that stove black gets hot it smokes and really stinks.. get the stove as hot as you can..

I would not paint the enameled , colored parts..

I would not do anything with the cooking surface except clean it.. then temper it like DrH said.

back in the day, I can remember my father cleaning up the cooking surface when it was hot, by balling up a piece of regular waxed paper and wiping it all over.. It smoked and gave off an odor,, but it was a nice odor..

this is just what I would do/not do.. it is your stove,, do what you want..

UnkaDan,, I decided to go and get some more of those racks.. I figured out a way to make a removable fence for the garden.. with moving the garden up here closer to the house, we will have to protect it from the birds,, especially the geese.. they make good weeders, but make no distinction between grass and lettuce..

now I have to decide if I want to unload the racks I have,, or go buy another trailer..

I think I will try driving to the spot where I am going to build the peacock pen in 4WD.. If I get stuck, Annie will have to pull me out .. She just HATES doing that ..

Annie tried to get a urine sample from the pup.. He of course acted like the aluminum pie plate was red hot and would not let her get close to HIS equipment.. So she called the vet today and made an appt for 2:45PM.. I am guessing the vet is going to extract what she needs ..
The last time I took the pup to the vet, I had to llift him into the Blazer.. I hope he doesn't bite me when I try it this time.. he was only 35 pounds last time.. he is almost full grown, now..
