Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning!!!!!

Gotta run to work in a sec, but thought I would pop on here momentarily....

CC, the kit is one with a plastic cover over the whole thing with a zippered door, I have one already that I have put all my plants into (they all outgrew the greenhouse window that I have). I hear you on the kitty munchies though... I am happy I finally have my spider plant out of their reach, and my Christmas cactus! I bought one of those kitty greens grow boxes for the furballs, they eat the grass and then barfing spree ensues.

Time to get my coffee.... enjoy the day! I hear it is going to be beautiful!

Great job on the birds!!!!!! They look big and healthy.

I can't wait for the bash...the recipes that you all are sharing is making my mouth water. I sure hope I can attend this year. Depending on when it is and if I can come....I have a 12yr old daughter that LOVES little kids and a 10yr old that is interested but not as skilled with kid instinctually as the oldest.

Got to take DD12 to dentist.

Good Morning! Thanks for the relish recipe judge! Have to agree with Dan turnips or and baga's in the pasties. Really makes a difference! Think it was CasieD you should check your furnace filter after you move them out. Cindy go back to a post from FT and get her E addy. Toby is really getting into playing fetch. He brings me a mouse and waits till I throw it, plays with it for minute then brings it back and drops it in my lap. This morning it was about 30 times in a row. What a freak! Have some pretty big snow piles out there. Hope it helps offset the drought. Plowed out back to the wood pile too. Just in case it's needed. 2* this morning with hoar frost in the trees, kinda cool lookin. Yup Jim think if I built a guinea coop it would be different.

TO glad your butchering went well and JJ made it home OK! JJ don'tcha just love when you ask if their ok then turn round to leave with that special smile on your face. Better go get water the outside kids.

Morning! My KNEES are killing me today! It must be damp...either that or they are reacting to all the trips I made up the steps yesterday with those meaties. Man, I am glad that is over! I might sit in my recliner all day...

What everybody said about the quarantine...the birds are probably fine--at their place. But your place has new germs/bacteria/viruses than what they are used to. I believe that you need to let them develop a bit of immunity the the surroundings before you turn them out.

Glad your turkeys know where "home" is Cind! Makes them much easier to catch that way. My daughter said that the school near where she works didnt take the netting down from their batting cages...all the poles bent with the strain of the snow stuck to the netting. At least your netting came off and didnt wreck the pen!
Yes, Jim will have to get one of those "grabbers" like the old folks use to get his eggs in there! I am on a watch for one at St Vinnies cause I am sick of trying to reach into that little coop I built. Of course they have to lay in the farthest corner. I really need to add some nest boxes to it this year!

JJ brought me a Cuckoo Marans Roo so I will move him in with the Blue Ams and the cuckoo girls for marans chicks and OE chicks. I have a guy that wants hatching eggs waiting so I guess I better get those birdies together! I really need to sit down and make a plan how I am going to pen things. I have limited "private" coop areas that actually work for breeding pens. I think I will not worry about Welsummers this year. I really like their looks but they were not good layers at all. I will stick with the Buckeyes, Cuckoo Marans and Australorpes from my flock and my friend Peggy that is moving wants me to take her barred rocks so I will set them up to be the free range flock in the backyard. I have always liked those birds from day one. I will probably add the Doms to that flock since I dont have a roo...keep the colors the same anyhow! LOL! THERE--I just make my plan with all of your help...thanks for listening! Now I just have to remember the plan and stick to it...that will be the difficult part I am sure. Especially because I will be heading to the Jefferson small animal swap in 2 weeks!

Guess I ought to get moving....certainly not getting anything done outside sitting here...have a great day! TerriOinpain

ETA: JJ did a good job cleaning those chicken feet...you peel the outer skin off of them and so nothing has touched the stuff they walk in! I watched a bunch of videos on making them and I think I will just go with the super gelatinous (healthy) broth that they make and then give the feet to the dogs!

Incubator was at 104 this morning with 85% humidity..think I fried my birds

Anyone have marans? I need a trio
Don't give up on them yet.

I have had eggs to show classrooms that made it to 125 degrees in the car last year in the heatwave. that most still hatched.

There's hope yet.

Oh and...

I peeled and cleaned those chicken feet and I will have to agree with the "they are nasty" side of the argument.

It was cool how they peeled like a snake's skin including the toe nails.

There is meat there, but I have butchered enough deer to know that leftovers for the animals are not wasted.

I second that!
Thank you! And all the gory details on how you skin them doesn't help matters any.

DrH, that is so cool that Toby likes to fetch. Ramses used to love to fetch with DH.

Terri & Jim, maybe a golf ball retriever would work? The kind with a basket? Or a fruit picker if you already have one? I think those would be more efficient for collecting eggs than one of those grabbers, and have a much longer handle.

Del, I agree with JJ not to give up on your eggs just yet. They might be ok.
