Ok, it's me again....

Yes we want to come to the bash this year. We still have the brand new tent still in the box that we bought for last years bash.
When is it again ??? End of May or June? I know Robin was complaining about the date cause she thinks she will freeze !!!
Can you guys believe I don't have my incubators going ????
So now ET's boss's son (well he is his boss too) said he would like to get some laying hens and some guineas so DH (and you all know what that stands for right) tells him I would hatch some for him.

Now normally I wouldn't have a problem and would welcome the chance to hatch out chicks EXECPT all I seem to get are ROOSTERS. When my farrier was here last week I asked how many eggs he is getting from the chickens I hatched out for him last year. He is new to chickens but he said there is alot of crowing going on and isn't getting that many eggs from his chickens or runner ducks !!! I guess he lost some of the chickens to fights...so I'm thinking rooster fights.... wish he would have called me.

So with that being said, I'm thinking of placing an order for some pullets for him and maybe getting myself a few. (like I really need more chickens) but that way he'd get the hens he wants.

So how many hens do you think two adults with 4 little kids need to supply eggs? He said he would like 10. I think more like 6 maybe 8 ????
And he lives in the woods so he would like some guineas. He said a couple of them. I said start out with 5 or 6 cause they like to stand in the road and act stupid !!! He wants them of course for tick control so they have to stick around.
Now my question to all of you is? If you want to raise the guineas with the chicks so the quineas hang with the chickens and go in the coop at night what ages should they be when you put them together?
I read that they won't ship them together because the guinea keets will pick at the chicks toes !!!! '
So Jim, did I see your ad on CL ? Are you hatching out guineas?

Wow, I haven't seen any guinea eggs yet and I have tons of guineas. But then again I haven't been looking.
We are getting tons of chicken eggs and my ducks and geese are laying.
Jim how about your peahens? And your Sebs? Any eggs?
Maybe I'll call the tractor Supply in Shawno and see what they have for chicks.
And speaking about ducks, I lost a few Runners over the winter (while I was gone) don't know if something got them or if I'll find them after the snow melts,
I see someone has runners in Rhinelander. I'm thinking I like those black and white ducks but I can't think of their name off hand.
I am also in search of a mature male muscovy drake,. Anyone got an extra male they want to rehome and save it from the dinner table???

Ok, that's it for tonight.... my ambien is starting to kick in and I won't be making as much sense pretty quickly now !!!

I have guineas hatching as we speak.. about 20 more eggs waiting for lock down day..
we are finding only 1 or 2 eggs per day.. some days none..

the sebs laid and so did the Africans.. we blew out most of the yolks and fried up super omelets for the chickens.. there are about 18 eggs in the fridge and I have a few in the incubator..

JJ I was looking for a Tom awhile back,, but I found one over in Hatley.
speaking of turkeys,, I saw a huge wild tom walk across our field just a few minutes ago.. Looked like he was all alone, or else the rest of them were over the rise..

Yesterday Kim's rooster got loose.. the wind must have blown the door open.. I noticed him only after he and my colored roo began fighting right under the saw horses I was working on.. It was not just a pecking order skirmish.. so I grabbed Kim's roo and walked him back to lock up.. then I noticed the barred rock roo was also gone.. I found him sitting on the saw horse when I went back to the garage.. He is sure a nice calm and tame boy.. I just picked him up and gave him a ride back to lock up..

the tom turkey didn't come out of the pen.. too stupid, or scared to jump the 30 inches down to the ground..

FT, we are going to order 100 Buff Orpington pullets today.. I have orders for 25 to 75 of them, so we will have some extras if you want 10 for the farrier .. I am going to half raise 25 of them for one of my orders anyhow.. I will get $5 each for them, but they will be old enough to not need supplemental heat..

raining here already.. If April showers do really bring May flowers,, it is going to be a very pretty May..

Frenchy..I will have quite a few female dual purpose if you want to pick them up next time you are in Racine. I have two that are 4 weeks old. I also have about 6 chicks that are part Leghorn/Orpington that should make a great dual purpose.

I transferred 43 more eggs to the hatcher last night.. I really cut it close on the timing this time..

I saw a Rollex ? bator in Madison CL .. $400.oo.. 200 egg capacity .. are those any good ?
I could tell Pang about it if it is a good one..

I am going to try to work between the rain drops and get the second gate built..

yup, there was a built in disconnect at the lead off the transformer, I guess as a safety in case the line to the house comes down from a limb or tree. It came apart from the freezing/thawing, WPS put a new weather proof connector on it. Didn't do the other one though, I guess job security, took him all of 10 minutes,,,,gave him a couple dozen eggs for a job well done.

the Chanteclers are popping, hoping for a good hatch on those, looks like a good number of the OE's are pipped, 3-4 are out squawking away

making some calls looking for junk riding mowers for wheel assemblies to use on the new "tractors"

raining steady here,,,,,not a real April shower it could turn to snow,,,can't wait to do my Gene Kelley "singin in the rain" routine
