Hi everyone , I've been following This thread for a few weeks now and just wanted to ask a question. I came home today to one of my hands looking like she had been in a horrible boxing match. He whole head is bloody and her eyes are swollen shut but she is eating and it looks like she'll drink. I have her quarantined now. Is there anything more I should do for her? I have seen a few drips of Active bleeding but I can't locate the source.

Any suggestions would be great thanks

Welcome amy11rn! Wish I had an answer for you! Some of the OLD timers here may be able to help you - they're a pretty smart bunch (when they can agree on something, anyway!

Im new myself. But did have trouble with my girls beating up my roo when we got him. We brought him in the house in a pen in the basement. We made sure to keep his woinds cleaned out. Just used water. When he would hear up, we would put him back out. Took about 6 weeks. But then they finally all just worked it out :) his wounds were always on his chest and comb...only one time he had a small cut on his lower eyelid.
Hope she heals quickly! Good luck!

Welcome Amy! So glad you could join us. Sorry for the reason why, though.

You did good in quarantining her. Eating & drinking are good signs. Try dabbing her wounds with cottonballs soaked in warm water and try to locate the source of the bleeding. If it still hasn't stopped, try using a styptic pencil on it. If you don't have one, try using corn starch. I would dab some peroxide on the wound prior to the blood clotter if it looks like it might have gotten dirt in it. I would not recommend Blue-Kote since it is so close to her eyes. Just keep her isolated until she completely heals to avoid anyone picking on/at her. When you do reintroduce her, you might have to treat her as if you were introducing a new bird because they might not recognize her.

Did that come from one of the brown eggs?

If so, then you have a good chance it being a CKOE (CuKoo Olive Egger)

Hi amy11rn welcome. No help here on your Hen, but hang on I am sure there is some advice on the way

good aft, just came in from outside,, I finished building both pen doors.. all I have to do is attach them to the pen.. No rush, going to be nasty weather for the next week..

I am not about to agree to disagree about the skunk.. despite you who doubt me and tell me that it was another animal,, I know what I know.. You believers that think skunks do not kill poultry are just mis informed,, on the other hand,, I am being called a liar..

for those of you who do not have access to the International Wildlife Encyclopedia, I have a few lines to quote..

skunks are of the family Mustelidae along with the badger, weasel, mink and otter...

they feed on insects such as beetles, crickets, grasshopers and caterpillars.

they will also take mice, frogs, eggs, small birds, and crayfish,, and occasionally cause damage by entering poultry runs, killing the birds and taking their eggs..

ref page 2163 and 2164...

I do know what the heII I am talking about..

.......jiminwisc......
Ok. I'm wrong. You are right. I give up trying to play nice with you. I was just trying to politely, yet humorously, disagree with you based on my own personal experiences with my poultry and the skunks down here in my area. And only AFTER you kept repeatedly bringing it up over and over and over again.

If you are accusing me of calling you a liar, then no Jim, you do NOT "know what the heLL you are talking about". Please try to take a chapter out of Mel's book. I'm DONE.

The horse abuse situation just took a bad turn. Sounds like some of the horses are sitting in trailers on the property right now. And they will be going for slaughter. Earlier we were told that they were being shipped to this ladies parent's house in MN. I guess that wasn't true.

JJ...it was either the olive egg or brown egg...I had it marked as an olive egger. It is stinking cute. So cukoo maran vs amaracauna? Lets hope it is a girl...there are a lot of combs in bucket of chicks!!! I need to take pictures. The black copper maran has a huge red comb at three weeks...

definately not the blue roo is the daddy. Hooray

The wheaten roo is where the yellow parts come from.

It is cute and looking like it is going to be beautifully earthy colors.
