Why oh WHY was I scraping ICE off my windshield this morning!???! GRR!

Speaking of goats...I almost came home with one from the swap on Saturday. I forgot to tell you guys that. It was 1/2 Pigmy 1/2 Fainting. It was a little black & white boy cute as pie! There was also a sable colored goat, but I forgot what breed. They wanted $75 for the boys and $100 for the girls. Is that reasonable? I've no clue what to expect for goats. They said he was 3 wks old and they can't wean until 8 wks, so I couldnt' take him home w/me. That's the only thing that stopped me because they live 4 hrs away.

See??? He loves my daughter! Just look at that content smile on his face! He wanted to come home with us! Yes, yes, yes!

Well, at any rate. Anyone on here have a baby goat for sale? MAY be willing to buy more than just 1, for company. And what breeds would you recommend that would be decent and dwhich should I stay away from?

Hmm...fresh goat's milk! To drink and/or bake and/or make soap! Wonderful idea! Now I want goats even more! LMAO!

DK - Oh no! Your perm didn't turn out? Bummer! I was looking foward to cute pics! :)

Fr.Toast - Dang! What a pain in the neck about that shed! :(

Wow that was a lot of Posts to catch up on .......but I am so busy on the weekends.........

Well hi everyone!!..........

Who was looking for a disc and drag? How big?(disc).....How big/type? (drag)......

Zeke ......sorry for loss.

That was me for disc and drag. We've got a Super H and need a pull type OR we need someone local who we can pay to do it for us. We did get a 2 bottom plow.

Cindi came over and picked up 3 BLR Wyandotte's. It was way too short, but it was very nice. I have another order coming this week. They are simply beautiful birds. Hurley ordered the antigen for the NPIP testing and I am looking forward to start these birds showing. I really need to get my poor Silkie in condition. That FF is horrible with those soft feathers and with so many litter mates grooming he is loosing so much of his top poof.

Cuties, I showed Joe the pictures of your kids and there precious ribbons and he just beamed and laughed. We think it is so wonderful you are starting the kids in 4H so early. It had to be an exciting day for everyone. Congrats on the new hatched chicks!! Nothing better than having your very own broody raised baby's.

We used to raise and show milking goats. They were fenced in 5 acres with the horses. If they wanted out, they found a way. Nothing is better to them than the grass on the other side of the fence. It really helped when we put up a play yard for them. Ramps, swings, bridges. I hated milking in winter. I loved kidding season. I did not drink the milk, but I fed out pigs and fermented feed with the milk I did not sell to the hospital. Nothing better than milk fed pork.

When is this weather going to truly turn to spring? Frost this morning.

The cost is very reasonable for an unregistered goat! If you just want pets, any boys would be best wethered. Unaltered boys, once they reach sexual maturity, can be stanky little lads! My Nigerian Dwarf buck reeks during that time of the year, he's a sweetie, though.

I actually have a little lassie for sale. I'm probably a bit far away though, being an hour from the north eastern WI border! With the right home I'd drop the price I am asking for her (I just sold her bro for $250, my initial asking price, and I only just decided to sell her). The link is in my signature, and she is able to be registered with the AGS and ADGA, both parents (and my entire herd) are CAE negative as of April 2013 (and no new goats have come onto the property).

Goats milk is so awesome. I make goats milk soap and drink it. Yoko, the doeling's mother, as a first freshener, was giving me a quart of milk with a once a day milking while she was nursing her two kids. Since I sold the buckling, and the little girl eats more hay and grain than milk, Yoko's backed off a bit on production. But she makes plenty for my needs.

BL4, great to hear Tyler will be coming to the Bash with books in tow! We might clear him out of Salatin books.

Judge, very nice baked Alaska! When I worked in the Honey Rock Camp kitchen, we would make 2 dozen of them for the big banquet on the last night of camp (x4 camper sessions = a lot of baked Alaskas.) I haven't had any in years, it is so very yummy.

Sorry about your aunt JJ.

Isn't is a good idea to have more than 1 goat because they're herd animals? Don't they get really lonely by themselves? I think goats would be just the thing for our burdock-rich woods. Does anyone know if that portable electric net fencing works on them?

Thank you all for the condolences . Don't feel sorry for my aunt as passing was a blessing compared to the pain she was in due to the cancer destroying her.

I have nothing to add to goat talk other than my son and I watched baby goats being auctioned off at Equity outside of Monroe. The last 25 males sold for less than 2 dollars each.

Making it almost impossible to explain to the 6 year old why we could not bring home a goat that day.

Evening Before A Nice Day Tomorrow To All...I agree, Congrats on the first show cuties...You Did Good!

Sorry about not being able to make the bash JJ...Family first..and sorry for the loss.

I missed you frenchie...quiet here on the corner too! Or is it here on the hill?

Moved the peeps into a bigger brooder today. I think I'm gonna build one with partitions that can be removed as the flock grows, or seperate older hatches from younger ones.

Found a wood tick tonight crawling up my leg. If it wants a chance to suck my precious blood, it needs to crawl slower or get caught and put to sleep. Poor woodie....

Enjoy the weather....tis the season....bigz

Cutties,..congrats to the kids! Congrats on the hatch!

Judge... The last Baked Alaska I made (several years ago) was vanilla cake, vanilla Ice cream, strawberries in just enough strawberry ice cream to make the firm, then more vanilla Ice cream. Goats... many, many years ago my uncle had goats. He 1x4 wood slats with wire woven between. Kinda like the old wood snow fence but much, much heavier. They would still get out! He did have some luck with wire covered cattle panels. But they still got out! What worked best (but couldn't do it all the time) was if he wanted them to weed a particular area, he would chain them out with a heavy duty screw post or chain them to the tractor. One of the reasons I don't have goats.

LM... Glad "shrinky dink" is doing good. Congrats on the hatch!

dkv... Hope things get better for you! 2 sets of twins! Oh MY! She's going to have her hands full!

FT... good to see you! Have fun with your niece!

DrH.... So cute that Toby plays fetch!

Yep, Delish and I had a nice talk for the little time I could stay. I was one of those days where too many little things kept happening that I couldn't get out the door when I wanted. Then I had to get back so my son could get his dad from work. She has allot of cool little buildings (coops) and keeps lots of types of chickens and other birds. Brought the chicks home and have them in the coop (in a pen) with a eat lamp. They should do OK, but I'll go check them later.
One of the things that kept me from leaving was the new neighbor came . Apparently the 2 Tom turkeys came to visit her in her garage! She was wondering if the being puffed up was aggressive. Told her they were just showing off and wanted attention. With 2 out of 3 of the girls broody, they are getting bored! They fallowed her back to our house and soon they were friends.

C U later!

Yuck...ticks! I pulled one off of the dog 2 days ago and DD12 had one crawl across her hand. They are gonna be bad this year! I feel them crawling all over me. The mention of them is like mentioning lice!

Not much new here. My arthritis is acting up and it is making walking difficult as my knees and feet are swollen.

DH made an irrigation line that extends out to the front of our property. Yeah I can water with a hose now instead of a cup and bucket! I am getting a bunch of free, yep free, starters from a friend. They include a wide variety of tomatoes, peppers, ground cherries, basil, etc.

Weather should be warm enough to attempt to turnoff the heater tomorrow. Wouldn't it be nice if it didn't drop down again?
