Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening to All...been busy like everyone. Dug 2 more bushels of spuds today. The june bug grubs hit prolly 20lbs, so we are going to peel and can potatoes like we always do with a good harvest. Some get cubed and canned in 1 1/2 pints for different casaroles. The others will be canned in qts for cheese potatoes mostly.

This year will also be another for making and freezing home made french frys. They are so superior to store bought, it's like comparing store eggs to backyard eggs...not even hardly spuds to spuds.
One needs to cut the frys and deep fry, just til they start to brown....spread on cookie sheets to cool...lay the sheets in the freezer til froze...remove and bag...done.

The javas still need culled...that's the hardest emotional part for me. I know it's time....I will get it done....but it isn't easy for me.

Nice kettle of pearl potatoes on the menu tonight. Onions and tomatoes with parmo-romo cheese.
Tastes awful goody.

Gonna order the sweet corn from the neighbor for canning and freezing. Prolly gonna do 7 dozen. Mostly for the kids and mother in law. We still have quite a few pints in the pantry and bags in the freezer....keeps quite well...sure don't eat like I did when a kid.

Sorry to hear about the bad stuff that's happened...hope the hatches go well too, though.

Just a quick peak in guys. Update on the duck coop! (And pictures) Here is the pen part, as you can see, there are two happy ducks in there. The top is rigged, with just a tarp and some chicken wire to keep hawks out and ducks in

However, Ed built this awesome roof for them today! He is going to pick up a couple packs of shingles to even shingle the thing! Dang lucky ducks!

Isn't he handy? Keep em dry and safe! Those ducks are starting to love him! Ed got the wire buried down today (a heavy duty garden wire), and now put more chicken wire to baby proof the thing! He just has to modify the door, so that ducklings can't squeeze out of there, and it's done! I also have to get some hay/straw for the igloos, haven't had a chance. Put the baby in there now, so hes content.

TO) School is...awesome but so demanding. But, I find it so fascinating that it's fun, ya know? It's just very fast pace (we do a 3 credit college course in 6 weeks, because thats how the program works. It's...crazy) so I already have a quiz on Thursday, and an exam on Tuesday! Yikes!

Annarie) I'm sorry for everything going on right now. BYC friends are here for you! (Oh, and what the heck is eclipse feathering?)

OK Raiquee---Ed and I need to talk! I really need a roof like that on my dog kennel! Actually I need two--two dog kennels--one for dogs and one for birds. The snow bends the sun tarp way doen in the winter and it's really hard to get it off of there in the spring because it freezes into the little holes! The dogs have a quagmire to stay in all spring. COuld you have Ed PM me witht he details on how he made it...or does he want to come over and make one here?

Any luck on the duck hunt or is that this coming Sunday?

Bigz--thanks for the tips on home made fries! I always refuse to get them at the store and my kids really like to have them on occasion. So you slice them and deep fry, cool and freeze, then pack...when you make them for dinner do you re-deep fry or can you bake them on a sheet in the oven? I also have a question about canning potatoes...so do they taste like the canned ones in the store? (ICK-
sickbyc.gif
) When you use them in a casserole type thing are they like fresh? Sorry for all the questions but I dont think my potatoes will keep in my basement because it is so damp!

Well, got the hay in just as the rain began to pelt down! The elevator was giving me fits and every time I plugged it in I thought about poor Brian being electrocuted. I was scaring myself silly let me tell you! My friend came to help and then low and behold---my KIDS came out to help!!!!

Yes--I was positively amazed! So Got that DONE! Tomorrow I head to Milwaukee to take DS21 back to college. Then I am meeting my aunt and my BFF for lunch! That will be fun.

So sorry about the ducks Annarie--I am praying that the sisters make it!

FBG--peacocks suffer from blackhead just like turkeys do--and they are really LOUD! Think carefully...speaking of turkeys...my boys started gobbling today! Kinda scared me...strange noise in the dooryard! It was so cute though!

OK--gotta get the horse trailer back in it's spot and have DS start packing his stuff up...think we can get a twin box spring and mattress in my van??? Wish me luck!

Sleep well my chicken friends! Terri O

I start again on the 8th. Almost done.
Anniarie-I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. What a crummy way to start a week. Hope all goes well with your ducks and they make it through the night.

Terri-cute puppies! makes me want one.
Busy day here. Went to the Henry Vilias zoo today. Had a blast. Only took half the girls. D7 and D3 had fun looking at all the animals and playing at the park. What a nice way to wrap up our summer vacation. And it only cost me the gas to get down there.

Oldest DD starts high school this year and has to get up at 5:30 to catch the bus by 6:40. I feel for her, hopefully she won't miss it to much. I guess the price we pay for living in the boonies. We are 20 mins from the high school.

Well have a great night everyone and enjoy shipping those kids off in the morning!

My oldest starts her first day of HS tomorrow. Switching for a school with roughly 75 kids in a class to a school of 1400 students. It is going to be a HUGE change for her...... and for the better I hope! Getting up at 5:30 tomorrow too so we can make it out the door in time, she reports in at 7:30. THis will be the first time my DH has to send the kids on their way here at home.

Annarie, I am so sorry about your babies! Thank you for the info on the calls, I was under the impression they needed to be smaller since the ones at the fair that won were very tiny. I HAVE to get pictures up soon! Thankfully my console is fixed and going to be back soon! I have a year worth of pictures to get off my camera!

A good friend of mine came over this morning, he was on his way to the local zoo and did not realize it opened at 10 so he stopped over with his kids and a whole bucket full of Little Fats minnows for the ducks! Those little buggars were stuffed full in about 10 minutes!!!! The little kids thought those ducks sure were funny chasing all those minnows around!

Well, I guess I should get the heck off of here and go to bed...... maybe I'll manage to beat Dr.H on here tomorrow....

Raiguee, i don't know where big bend is, but we live in Portage and have Cayugas and Crested mix cayugas. The regular Cayugas are pure and were bought from someone else. I really would like to get rid of some before winter. I don't know what I'm going to do with them all now

Good Morning All! Ha BL4! Annarie sounds like you may have caught the problem in time for the rest. Raiquee looks like Ed knows which side of a hammer is which.

So many people don't! Bigz I too have ?'s on the fries. Which taters work the best and do you put any kind of seasoning on the them on the initial cook? Finishing the relish this morning then taking care of the kids then mowing. Pinhead neighbor was out mowing his lawn in the pouring rain yesterday. Look at the look of surprise on my face.

If I had 5 minutes to spare this morning I would have beat you Dr. H!!!!!

Dropped the girl off. I'll have an update later.

Working at the University the rest of the week!

What a morning already! Went downtown to do my monthly banking, drop off the beans, and stopped to pay the friend for the meaties we got yesterday. Another guy that I know asked if I wanted some feeders, waterers and some fake GLASS eggs. He inherited a house in the country with a nice barn and several out buildings. He says there's a bunch of stuff I might be interest in. I asked what he wanted for the things and he said those magical words. Come and get em their yours! Then the wheels starting turning. More feeders means more birds which means bigger coop. Oh god I'm in trouble! I canned up the relish this morning and had some left over and put it in the fridge. I just tasted it. I will never never ever buy store bought again!!!!!!!!!! This blows store bought out of the water by, I can't even find the words. If any of you eat sweet pickle relish on anything you have to I repeat have to make this recipe. I'm going back to the on line recipe and give it 10 stars on a scale of 1 to 5. I love relish but never dreamed it could taste this good. I'm not kiddin!

Doing my daily dishes then out to take care of the feed and water then mow the lawn as soon as it's dry. What a glorious day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
