Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I had a lazy day today.. all I got done was sawing the purlins for the trusses.. tomorrow BroDave is coming here and we will put the 7 trusses in place.. His SiL is visiting, so it was easy to convince him to come here.. I might have to fix up a spare bedroom for a week until she leaves..

Dora continues to improve.. I called the vet this morning to report , like he wanted me to.. He sounded surprised,, and I told him so.. He said, Not,, He was just happy.. I still think he was surprised.. Dora ate a pound of hot dogs.. Annie offered her a can of dog food,, Dora stood up, turned around and laid down ***** end to the dish.. Gee, do you think maybe she is SPOILED ?

JJ, I ate the dog food,, as long as Annie had it opened already.. everything goes better on a Ritz..

Annie put the peahen back into the pen.. tomorrow we will entice a peacock to join her.. I have to rig up some sort of "natural" nest , like a pile of brush or something..

we put a Delaware rooster and 7 of his girls into the dog kennel.. I will start collecting eggs from them in a few days.. I don't care if some of the first ones are cross breeds.. they are going into the freezer at a young age anyhow.. fryers.. young and tender.. just like my girlfriends..

Heather , I hope you got over your puking quickly..

more butt shots from mystery chicken...
my first guess was rooster,, now I am not guessing,, that is a rooster.. all roosters do not develope the large combs and wattles.. and like terriO said,, some hens look like roosters.. usually those are not good layers,
No thanks but thanks for confirming my fears.... Sigh... We kept nine of the 24 we hatched in April and 5 of those are now Roos...that is my luck. Oh we'll.. Lets hope for better luck with guineas. Jim any advice beyond th 27 day hatch vs chickens?

for guineas,, keep them dry.. we use the quart jar waterers that screw into a plastic base.. then we put stones in the base so they can only reach between the rocks to drink.. they can drown in that tiny base if there are no stones in it.. don't put the waterer tight to the side of the brooder box.. leave plenty of space all around it so they can't huddle and force another into the water..

guineas have a high mortality rate in the first week.. it tapers off during the second week and after that they are quite durable..

Good evening to everyone.

News here consists of a potentially pregnant young kitten that has semi-adopted us (yes I've decided to feed her), plants are growing well (I still have to plant collards, mustard, & kale), closing at noon Friday, dropping all kiddos off on Sunday, DH wants to paint the inside of the house over the summer, all animals are fine, & I am anxiously/impatiently waiting for the berries (raspberry, blackberry, mulberry, strawberry) to ripen.
Kristi-its a roo
Deli-if I wasn't closing on Friday I'd go to bigfams with you and joe.
Glad the cocci deaths have ceased.
Jim-glad your dog is getting better...good luck getting her off the hot dog diet.
TO-how long you gonna talk about planting those swt potatoes? Just plant em already. What are those 2 kiddos for anyway but for digging in dirt?;-)
Bl4-thanks for the pics
Watching the Stanley cup finals with DD and wishing I had some fruit pie!

Amyb: Happy Anniversary - so you are just down the road from me . . . do you live on Argue Rd? I hope things settle down a bit in the next couple of weeks, then I'll see about coordinating a meet and greet.

Bl4: loving the pics - I hope to take that trip some year.

chikenscratch: so excited for you - congrats!!

Colton: Happy 14th Birthday!!! - not being on the computer and being out enjoying your chicks, siblings and the summertime is the very best reason to be too busy to have been on here. We'll be here in the fall - enjoy this time it goes fast!!!

irishrovr: I feel so good seeing that I'm not the only one struggling to get all my garden in this year - I live by the saying "it is what it is", we'll enjoy what veggies we do get and put our sights on next year

I do like the idea of a greenhouse - broke that news to my recently retired hubby . . . OH and happy early birthday!!

JJ: Thanks for the info on pasty butt, I've been trying to keep an eye out for this since I always watch for it with the meaties, but these little buggers want nothing to do with me - just mama. It is truly amazing to watch the interaction.

Alrighty - lunch break over. Have a great day all.

I managed to get the corn in today but there's still a lot more to do! At least next year we won't have to search for a plow, disc and drag. I'll be ahead of the game as long as the weather cooperates.

Hello,
I am new here and am in dire need of some help. I made a really bad mistake and now am paying dearly for it. I'm trying to track down a man that sold Black Copper Marans at the Wheaton Swap Meet in late April. this is located just West of Chippewa Falls on old 29. Anyone who attended this swap and knows others who were selling I would greatly appreciate help.

I have lost 10 chickens now and 24 sick another 16 exposed. I had to take my prize Black/Lavender Oprington rooster to Barron testing facility today to be tested for what the vet is sure is mycoplasma.

Thank you,
Stacy
