I know she's no where as nice as many I see but she's what I have at the moment. I have 4 eggs of theirs hatching with the next few days and 6 more in a week, so im really excited to see what I get.

My daughter made me a hatching record sheet to keep track of hatchings if anyone is interested I can share, its has worked great for keeping track of your hatch. You just number the eggs and keep the details on the record sheet. Also has spot for tracking candling, infertile, early deaths and more. Id be glad to share with anyone.

Put eggs in lockdown in homemade today and eggs #1, #5, #7, #9, #10 are rocking like crazy so maybe another early hatch. Temps been running steady at 99 so unsure of the early hatching. Their not due until Tuesday. Last hatch was 3 days early also.

Me and son 14 got the ceiling finished in coop today and the ridge cap on finally, was thinking just in time for rain but seen none so far. All the chicks are doing great so far, haven't lost any in this heat. Jose seems to much happier with his chickies since the roos are gone from beating him up.

good eve'nin,

I got all of the inside babies out to the big brooder in the guinea pen.. somewhere around 25 guinea keets, 5 turkeys and a peachick.. the turkeys and peachick do not really need heat. In fact, I took them out first, and they acted like they were having heat stroke under the brooder hood.. I pulled the last one out from under and set her next to the water jug.. when I was just out there, she had moved, so I guess a good drink was all she needed..

I still have 6 in the hatcher to take outside, but they can wait until tomorrow..

It sure is nice out tonight,, and the skeeters are still out there, but not as mean as they have been..

TerriO, right on about remembering egg data and chicks .. CRS for sure..
Nd I will let you know about the black berries, too.. what kind of plant do you have ? one of those thornless ones ? a had a few of them for years,, never produced a berry.. I think our winters are too harsh for them.. I don't care what they say in the catalogs.. the plants never even sent out many shoots..

our volunteer raspberries are doing much better than the ones we bought many years ago.. the only problem is that they volunteered to grow up through the grape vines.. I can't do it now, but after berry season is over, I am going to take Olie and jerk out all the grapes and let the berries have that spot.. I will put the grapes along side of the peacock pen..

It is nice to be able to pick up your kids and drop them off,, but how many years of that do you have left ? then you could handle that new job with more money, but it won't be there..

I was offered a job today.. I think I am going to take it.. I just have to install some new doors into an old house.. sometimes that can get quite tricky.. back when this house was built, the doors were not standard sizes.. many of them were built on the job ..

the home owner says all I would have to do is route the hinges into the doors.. yeah , right.. I heard that tune before..

almost time to off a spotted cow eieio ,, ( ei ei ei o for you polka fans)
do you want to get a song stuck in your head ?
sing : "old MacDonald had a cow, ei ei ei O" in polka time..
you're welcome..

well, nobody posted for over an hour, so I guess I will sign off too..

I do not like her color, but, her structure looks OK.

th
This is the correct color for blues. (young pullets)

round ball of a body is what you are shooting for

When you are going to keep chicks this is what you look for

rounded front already at a young age (11 weeks)

deep front and wide, good leg placement, yellow legs, rounded head, refined comb and smaller wattles

good wing placement, pretty tight even with movement, wide tail and tenting with hard feathers, good arch of neck

wide rear, wide legs, tight wing

So glad the heat is coming to an end!

Ducks enjoyed their pool, our 2 older chickens stayed in the shade. I brought my 3 babies back to my sister's house. They're in 2 brooder bins (one isn't big enough for them all) inside the house. All of the 5/6 week old ones get along fine. When we have the tops open, they like to hop out and visit one another. I laid down a plastic drop cloth because they kept pooing on the carpet when perched on the sides of the bins. Yuck :) We're anxious to get them out of the house.

My white babe Barney is huge, easily twice the size of a few of the other chicks the same age. My other 2 are also bigger than all 7 of my sister's chicks. The one week older Silkies are so tiny compared to the others. I think I'll bring my dslr out tomorrow and snap some pics!

We picked up some plywood at Lowes today. Dad's gonna help cut them to size, mom and I will waterproof them, then we're going to lay down a new floor (after a thorough cleaning!). Sand on top. Then mount the roosts and add a dropping board. Wonder how long it'll all take... I can't wait to get it all fixed up so I can decorate, lol!

I think over the next few days/week/? we'll use a XL wire dog crate and will put the babies near the big ones, to see but not touch yet. I brought Barney in the run today, perched on my arm (he or she is my little "parrot" buddy). Mr. Grinch, our roo, raced at us, and I got out of there.. don't want to be attacked lol. He's been very cranky lately, bit my sister's hand the other day and wouldn't let go for a few seconds.. hopefully it's just because of the heat? If he's going to be like that, we may have to rehome or have dinner, because we won't have him attacking like that frequently!

And our hen sounds like she's quacking.... could that be because she's around the ducks?? Or is it a sign of illness? Far as I know she's eating/drinking/pooing/acting fine.

My sister is going on a 10 day vaca to Missouri starting tomorrow, so I'll be able to watch the hen more closely while I stay at her house. It's not going to be very fun with an EXTREMELY moody 8 year old and wild tomboy 2 year old to babysit, along with my 6 and 4 year olds ((sure wish *I* could get away for 10 days without kids!!! I don't think that will happen until mine are in college - 6 year old daughter is scared of her shadow and almost never leaves my side!)).

Annie added 3 more keets to the TV, and I just checked and there looks like about 5 or six more..
I like it when the hatches go fast and furious.. I have to switch the keets to the larger TV.. there are already 25 in that small tank.. they are crawling over each other,, almost..
Ok ladies. I wanna see some Hershey baby pics. C'mon, I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Calm down now, boys.

Here is Hershey this morning working on her offspring:

Here is her son, Nestle:

And here is the latest addition:
Cute!!! I already miss the itty bitty chick stage.
Going away party for the boss tonight. Very bittersweet........

Nice to see all of you, thanks for the comments, I do appreciate it.

Someday the GM of this stinking plant will get fired............

Ok, 'nough said.
:( Hope things turn around soon at work!

What do you do when you get an unexpected job offer in the field you went to school for? I would make 3-4 times what I'm making now per year. But I'd have to work more hours per week and couldn't just take a day off whenever I feel like, couldn't leave early, come late, leave to drop my kids off when needed . . . Its a real job, with real responsibility. Scary

Not sure I can handle that kind of commitment.
What a hard decision.. that is a large increase in income! Is it a position you'll enjoy? Will the income make a big positive difference in your household/lifestyle? I don't envy the position you're in! Best of luck deciding :)

My baby looks very similar to this.

So darling!

I just took the 2 lav chicks out to slip under a momma. I tried Miss Momma first, but she got all cranky and took to pecking at me, at the flashlight, and the babies. So I said "no more babies for you!"

I hope Sugar can handle 5 chicks for her first brood, cause I popped them under her and she didn't make one peep about it. She's been such a good girl lately, she lets me pet her while she sits on eggs WITH new babies under or around her. Don't know if that means she won't be aggressive enough to defend the babies against the other birds or not...?

Only time will tell, but I don't want anymore dead chicks!
Can't wait to see pics of your new chicks!

No idea what the ideal look is, but she's pretty to me :)

I was offered a job today.. I think I am going to take it.. I just have to install some new doors into an old house.. sometimes that can get quite tricky.. back when this house was built, the doors were not standard sizes.. many of them were built on the job ..

Old houses and new doors are certainly a pain in the butt! I helped mom this spring with a new storm door on her 1904 farmhouse.. ridiculous.

Thank you Delisha for taking the time to comment, as I said I don't think she perfect. I do like her but think I may have something nice come from the pair. Time will only tell.
Thanks erinnoie, I've seen worse for sure.

Just got done reading all of todays posts... Now CRS has settled in my brain and the ei ei ei O song is playing in my head.... Thanks A lot Jim !!!
Now I think I might have nightmares tonight...... between Polka dancers with corn rowed you know what's it's gonna make some interesting dreams !!!!

Went to Antigo today to get my pool.....then to Menards to get some patio blocks then to FF for chicken, duck and dog food. Then met ET for dinner... had to have him come and help me pick up everything, I was running out of time and the stores were gonna close.. We had Mexican.... Then back to Walmart to get some cold groceries...which I couldn't get earlier...... Discovered ET didn't take the butter out of the van yesterday !!!!!! Not a pretty site.... bought several pounds of it. It was under $2 a lb at Menards and then got the bag sale 15%off..... Not at all happy that it's all soft and who knows how much I can salvage......
smack.gif

I am exhausted !!! Then of course I forgot to pick up a RX yesterday.... thought I would get it today.... then FORGOT AGAIN !!!! I am getting so so tired of driving everywhere !!

BBP I don't envy your situation either but good jobs are hard to come by these days..... Couldn't you try it and see how it goes... I'm sure it will take a good amount of time to establish a new schedule but if there is a will there is a way... to make it work. Would you be able to come back to your current job if the new one didn't work out?
Shoulda woulda coulda . Sometimes when opportunity knocks you have to answer .... gosh I don't know where that came from..... guess it's time for bed... I'm beat !!!

Night everyone....

Night All!

One last call duck egg in the incubator. Hopefully it hatches. I had put it under a broody hen and now I've got the incubator back on so I can assist in the hatching if needed. The job is with a CPA here in Amery. I am not a CPA, the job I have now just pays so poorly that its not hard to do better.
