Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cindlady, stay strong. I honestly have no idea what it's like, but I sympathize.

SClark - I hope you feel better too and sorry you have been losing chickens :(

Vickiw - I have no clue about the egg problems. If it was me I would just wait and see like you said.

Delisha, here are the pictures. They were cooperating more today. The little guy was crowing away this morning. The girls are just so cute! I am also posting a picture of the Jubilee I got from you at the bash.

You are doing such a good job! They look so big! very pretty birds! You will be able to show and do well with your black pullets. Beautiful. Your splash too..all thought it is not recognized yet. Is that Jubs tail off? Or is it the way she is standing?

OK--what I want to know is WHO is the person that is breeding these mixed up birds?????

In other words...you need to Kmart up your lawn! Time for a run to St Vinnie's...maybe a glowing santa and reindeer would stop them?

OK now I have to go and find some $$$ to put in our overdrawn checking account...(anyone wanna buy some odd birds?)

Really I think I have figured out the problem...the feathered feet were the clue! I have a free range Salmon Faverolle... feathered legs? CHECK. Beard? CHECK. 5 toed? CHECK! That has got to be the answer! There was one smallish buckeye hen that consistently hopped the fence(7') I thought I knew her egg as the very round one....HMMM--with the fertility problems in the eggs this year I am guessing that the Buckeye roo is shooting blanks occasionally, she knew it and wanted babies so she went and found a roo that would help! So is that giving too much credit to a chicken? Well, that's our story and we're sticking to it!

(PS) nice job JJ! Can we see the inside?
That's kinda a personal question request for this forum I think. Unless you mean the coop. I will get some pics either way tomorrow. Maybe some of the inside of the 5 toed bearded buckeye/Favorelle with feathered feet just to be safe.

TerriO - here is a pic of the Aussies at 18 weeks. They, especially the smaller one, have made huge gains the past couple weeks. Still not positive who is "what". If you want, you can see more pics over on the Aussie thread.

this is their first day in with the "big girls" and were being harassed a bit by the Amigas, of course, so it was hard to get a good pic. Just went to lock up and was surprised to find they had went into the coop on their own. When I checked, they were "nested up against the door and facing the roost, but nobody seemed to be missing any feathers

I did a complete coop cleanout earlier today and moved the fence to make the run a bit larger and add more grassy area. Then I was able to give them the full run to themselves and they were able to explore the full coop for the first time without their cage and check everything out most of the afternoon before I let the other girls back in. The girls focused on the new arrangements in the run and coop and I think this helped to make things go at least a bit smoother. If Nugget escalates her "brattiness" she may find herself in a timeout in the greenhouse, otherwise, everything went better than expected.

Deli-I'll have to come over sometime before winter (if I have time) to see the coop in its completion. Tell Joe that it's now time for the garden gnomes, flamingos, fake screeching owls, and all sorts of other deterrents in the backyard.

I would like to invite your whole family for dinner after it is finished. Maybe Cuties, Scott and the kids will come too. It is going to be pretty nice when it gets done. I think I have to clean a few more brick though. Joe worded on it today and used 1/4 of the brick and we have a way to go.

Her tail is fine, it's just they way she is standing in the picture. She would do a decent pose to the side, but I was trying to get the pretty colors in front .

TO, no worries lol. Nice to know what the other half is :). They are really cute together. Even though they had siblings in the nest, they are glued together at the hip. That's why I kept him. She likes him so much and he toned it down after getting wise once to my big Lanshan rooster. He's been well behaved ever since. I'll post some pictures of them if you post some of the Lanshans you hatched from me :). I bet they are very tall...

Today Dh took the dogs with him to the in-laws. Of course the little Rat took off and had a little adventure..... somebody picked him up on the highway and took him to their place waiting to find out who he belonged to. They thought he could be tied up in the backyard..... and snot chewed right through the rope in 10 min..... then they tied him up in the front yard where they could keep an eye on him...... of course snot chewed through that in 10 min too!

Eventually DH caught up with the little wanderer and managed to bring him back home. Of course the dog has no tags on his collar (he lost them) so tomorrow it is a trip to petco for a new name and # tag for the Fonz.

I think we need to plan a party at Heather's place........

Took my Newly finished "Coop on wheels" for a roll today. Now I need to decide where to put it for the winter and take the wheels off.

I couldn't take the poop any more, so I penned up the turkeys and their sibling buff Orpingtons, and the Cukoo Marans that hatched the Orps.

Can ya tell that he's not that happy about it?

All in all a fun day for me though. Finished the day off spreading milkweed seeds with my wife and kids.

Nobody tell her that I posted a photo of her in her lounging around the house outfit.
AWESOME COOP, John!!!
