NIIIICE--just lost a Frenchie style post...I might try again later....dam it! TerriO

ETA----nevermind.........................................................................
yeah, nevermind.. I was going to comment on the "short one" that you didn't lose ..

tomorrow I think we will band all of Marlene's guineas and put them into the guinea coop.. I want to do it in late afternoon, so they get to sleep with all of mine before they wake up and realize there are lots of others around.. then with it being so cold, I will keep them closed up for a couple of weeks before turning them loose.. (if it warms up some by then)..

One of Marlene's guineas was dead this morning,, (still is tonight) It was the runty crippled one.. It was not doing good at Marlene's already ..

is this going to be another long quiet night ?

Teri, I am trying, but can not post a pic. The egg in the bator is cutie's. She is a sort of easter egger or something. Hers is a blue green. I do get an olive egg from your girl tho! It is a real nice green. I plan a project for next mid summer. I beleive I have an olive and oliver. I have a marans hen. I will put oliver with her. And I will get a marans roo from you for olive. And see where we get!

Clark, we knew some of the blrw were viable. It was the slw that are infertile.

Jim, do you mean to say you did not bri g back that keet like jj brought back the chick?
Must not have the magic touch ;-)

4 of ellis' and blackie's chicks are out! Sadly two have single comb. Ellis was locked away from any other roos for 4 weeks before we began collecting :'( I hope this line does not have single comb. And that somehow... idk. There is no way she was ever out of that pen. It is in the barn.

My son is driving me nuts tonight as he is hyper!! Those of you who have met him know exactly what I mean! Lol

The keets are very happy! We bought more grit, a millet holder, two toys, new food and water dish, and perch covers! And all they want to do is fly arou d the living room!!!

Cuties, clip their wings. Use a cat nail clippers or fingernail clipper, you can find instructions online. This helps with taming the birds, but when you have them out kick all of your dogs out as well. Use millet to earn their trust and just put them on you and watch tv. It does not take long. We would put puzzles together when the birds were out and eventually they would jump down and play with the pieces.

Hey all--really blustery out there tonight...just got back in from chores. It is still muddy. I left the hose out--I hope I dont have to kick myself in the morning!

Cuties--be sure to only put the perch covers (I assume you mean the sanded ones?) on the perch they use least often. IMHO they really arent good for anything. They dont help keep nails trimmed and can seriously irritate their foot pads. I like to use natural branches in my cages so their feet can grip on all different circumferences to get exercise. Give them a dish with their grit.

I think I am going to head up and start a new book. DH should be finished watching the Walking Dead by now!
My day tomorrow isnt too bad so I might even clean my house a bit. Tonight's dinner was great...it was nice to have DD27 here too.
There is something wrong with BYC's or my computer...the spell check (automatic one) isnt working and it is making me crazy!

Have a good night! TerriO

Evening All.... We ended up with a good 4" of the wet heavy snow. It's been sliding off the steel roof all evening. I'm sure the piles will be froze in the morning.

Congrats on the hatch cuties. looks like you will prolly be the last one on here this year with a hatch before the new year starts and someone will be the first of the year to have chicks.

The APA sent out their quarterly news by email this time. It was quite nice to read it with the puter size text. Their new website is working well for them. It is a nice upgrade.

Found a number for small square bales of wheat straw. It looks like a Bonduel number. I'm gonna stop by the sale barn near me and see if anyone has anything on the bulletin board there first before I call the number tomorrow. It's gonna be needed for sure here shortly.

I think my small woodpile is gonna have quite a dent in it after the next 2 weeks. It's way to early for this serious cold weather already.

Sure hope they find a home for the springer soon bl4. I would think someone could use a nice dog for Christmas!

Stay Safe and Warm....bigz

JJ, proof of what????

Took oldest DS to the dentist this morning, and had to reschedule. They just diagnosed one of the dentists kids with cancer.

Liking the snow, hating the road conditions. I hope they are good tomorrow, I have to take the oldest in for her final pediatric neurology appt. in Green Bay.

Trying to buck a cold at the moment...... and hoping the rescue takes this dog sooner than later.

My dog has proven many times that live chickens go down just fine, but cooked bones make him puke.

We had an awesome time with our daughter Cate, her sweetie, his family and, of course, our grand-dog Colby Jack in Chicago for Thanksgiving and the following weekend! Colby popped into a suitcase as we were packing and it was hard to get him out - I think he knew what was happening and he didn't want us to leave. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.

It took awhile to catch up with all the posts and I can't remember who wrote what. So very sorry to hear about the lost puppies and chicks! Congrats on the new grandbaby and the hatch!

My chickaroos unscrewed their feeder while I was gone and left very few eggs for their caretaker. When I returned Clapton was chasing some tail and not getting any as far as I could tell. Poor guy. Molly Malone was acting a bit differently - not as skittish and shy as usual - but I didn't think anything of it until I went in yesterday to find her lying under the roost dead. She was such a sweetie pie; always at the bottom of the pecking order and for that she always got special treats from me. There was no evidence of fowl play (excuse the pun) so I haven't a clue how she died (she just finished molting a short time ago and she was looking well). From where she was laying it appeared that she died during the night and fell from the roost.

Hard to believe we're plowing snow and heading for a deep freeze already. The hubs is going to have knee surgery either the 11th or the 19th so I'll have to find someone to plow the parking lot, the driveway and clear the sidewalks if we get much snow after that.

Stay warm!!

Hi All!

Cuties.... congrats on the hatch! Not something I would want to do this time of year.... but good luck to you! Enjoy!

TO... sorry about the chicks.

Cute doggy pic.

I HATE MICE!!! 6 cats and I still have mice in my kitchen!!! They even managed to wipe out the light over the counter. Every night at least 1 cat lays in wait for the d@mn critters and they manage to get about 1 a week. But there must be quite a colony. I tried traps.... 3 kinds.... they are trap proof

Price you pay for country life I guess.

That's it.... Night All!

Irish, what a cute pic! Glad you had a good time :)
Thanks for the tips on the parakeets. I will move the sand covers as soon as I get home. I put them right by the food and water! It hadnt even crossed my mind about their poor little feet.
Bbl4 I have done the calls wings. But I have never done the parakeets lol I figured I wanted them to beable to fly well so we don't have Dozer issues! They do hang with the kids a bit :) and then the kids decide to let them get exercise ;-)

Cind, our good mouser cat got hit in the road :'( I think I have scott talked into a kitten from a barn. But just one at this time. If Terri were willing to separate those girls....

Hope you all have a nice day!!
