Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks judy!
Hubby got a sap cooker today. We figured since propane is so expensive we better go the wood way. He found a guy on cl. It was a haul. But he got a good deal.
We are actually goi g on a walk in the woods deal tomorrow am. It is through the school. They provide snow shoes. The kiddos love giving them a try. But they are not really needed :D
Bigz, we were in your neck of the woods today. The bil went to the derby.
Jim, I love those pictures!

Funny that you guys are talking snow shoes. My husband and I each bought a pair of Red Feather snow shoes today. My 7 yr old tried mine out and loved them. My son snow shoes at school. So, I guess we'll be getting a pair for each of the kids.

good evening,
Annie and I used to go snow shoeing, No trails for us.. If you want trails, walk the mall..

My BRO Dave and I used to rabbit hunt on snowshoes.. we did miles and miles in a day's time..

the worst time is in the spring when the sun is honey combing the snow.. then you really get a workout .. it is like wading through water..

I re-plowed everywhere today.. 2 foot high drifts across the driveway beyond the wind break.. when the snow blows in like that, it settles like concrete.. instead of a bucket full, you get large chunks bigger than the bucket.. that would be some nice stuff for cutting blocks and building an igloo..

the snow slid off the west half of the garage today.. I was inside the garage when it happened.. It shook the building ..

another barn collapsed near us.. the Witter farm.. it is right at the city limits of Wausau,, It is one of the oldest farms in the area.. at least five generations old.. They used to bottle their own milk there up until a few years ago..

Mel, tell your inlaws that the puppies are for sale..

Brent, I stored some carrots in sand one year.. unbeknown to us, the cat was using the sand for whatever cats use it for.. we had about 1 1/2 bushels of carrots in the boxes stacked on one another.. by the time we got around to needing them, the cat had done her job, lots of times apparently ,, the whole batch of carrots was rotted away .
Ask me again why I do not like house cats ..let me count the ways..

Perhaps I need someone to show me what I am doing wrong then....... breaking through the ice crust was a PITA...... I was thinking it would be better to have snowshoes than none at all but after today I think it would have been easier to just plow through with just my boots.

Jim, I did let them know but they are on the lookout for a lab cross. Sorry.

You did nothing wrong, maybe you had the wrong style of shoe,, or maybe you were expecting to not sink in at all.. sometimes snow conditions are not right for shoeing..

crusty show will kick ***** for sure ..

soft snow will not hook on the tips of the shoes like I will bet your crusty snow did,,

come up nort here and give it a try.. you will like it ..

mainly the shoes just keep you from sinking alllll the way to the ground ,, and they keep the snow from entrapping your legs ..

if snowshoes were fun, this would never have happened

just sayin'

Cuties - nice on the sap cooker.. Can't wait for sap collecting time to start , it lets me know we're headed into spring!! doesn't look like it will be early this year!!

Snow shoes?? Never tried them, went cross country skiing once. Once was enough!

Kristip - we are getting our first bees this spring... Ordered 2 packages of Italians. I'm interested in hearing about how you over wintered them and if it was successful with such cold temps this year .

Jim - love the puppy on the scale picture, so cute!

I chopped up to 4 " deep ice from part of our driveway, only made a small dent- i probably did a 10x15 spot, i would have done more but I tore my calf muscle walking in the snow last weekend and it started burning . I hate getting old!! hope the Sun is out tomorrow so I can do some more chopping.

Night all! And stay warm !

Jim I was in the middle of Portage county, so a good layer of snow to go through. Under the crust it was not too bad, wet sticky snow would have been better I think...... also, having the big dog stepping on the heels of the shoes did not help. At least I only wiped out once, the youngest DS was falling over all the time. This is what I was using today.....

I left out the snowmobiling part of the day. The BF and oldest DD brought 2 snowmobiles over and so oldest DS thought he would like to have a go at driving one, so the two boys gave it a go on the logging roads (that have not had any kind of tractor driven on them in months). A trip that should have taken less than 20 minutes took over an hour and a half. Those sleds were getting stuck every five minutes due to the deep snow. They did manage to get back to the house, but the BF had to borrow a car to head back the 3 miles to his house and get fuel for the sleds...... so not a good day for winter sports.

Hi All!

I never tried snowshoes. Hate winter sports in general, I get too cold too quick.

Well, didn't see anyone bloody in the coop so whatever happen it must have looked worse than it was. I did notice "the boys" are starting to spar more.

Spring get here soon!

I used a bunch of our aging apples tonight. Made a crisp and a cobbler. Only a few left too.

Guess that's it... Night All!
