Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning Everyone! The Pack did a lot better than I thought they would. That defense really put a damper on Brady! Bigz we're crappie fishermen. But gladly accept any gift offered from the waters. cp think the Newfies are neat! Always friendly and soft. The kids are also getting fresh sheets today. Along with trimming that darn coop door again. Don't know if the coop is moving or the slab in front of it, going to add a 2 by 4 to the floor inside the door to block the wind and give the door a good trimming. Going to check the tractor gas supply looks like I'm going to need some. Darn have to play on the tractor again

One of my Army buddy's got his pic in the Stevens Point Journal blowing snow. Gonna have to give him the business. Have a good one!

Good morning! Did you get more snow DrH? Thought it was WAY too cold...maybe drifting hey? I still have some pretty big ones in the yard. The first day when the dogs hit them they took them right out! It was pretty funny to see their expressions, like "what the heck? What did I run into?" Then they proceeded to knock them down.
I actually watched the Pack last night --the WHOLE game! I think that is the problem I have with football; when it's on in the day time I have WAY too much to do to sit down and waste 3 hours of daylight! So we ate out (most excellent) dinner along with watching the game and it was actually kinda fun. Made us stay up way too late though. DH has to get up at 4:15 to get up to Green Bay by the start of work at 7 or so....I imagine that he might be pretty tired come this afternoon!
Yesterday I finally finished putting the plastic up on the window behind the parrot cage. I bet they were nice and toasty last night! Oh yeah, I dont have a quailapine now...he picked her feathers off again! And now he is picking off Button's feathers too! Not really too happy about this new development either. Had the rooster out of his sling for a while yesterday and made him a new one so he wont hang his head down so low. No change in his legs...

He sure is getting feisty though!
Just heard the weather report...guess you might get to be pushing more snow...1-3 for us tonight but maybe you are getting more? I am just happy that the weather is warming up a tad! That below zero stuff is tough on everything! Speaking of that--I lost my first bird since forever. She was laying dead in the coop yesterday. A young hen. I had picked her up the day before to check her out...she just didnt look thrifty. Then she was dead...everyone else seems to be doing fine out there. The only problem I am having now is that the ducks have decided that the coop is a fine and warm place to spend the winter...they are such, well DUCKS with the water! What a mess! Every morning the waterer is almost empty and I am talking SEVEN gallons! I might have to figure out something else...well, dogs wanat out again...have a fantastic day everyone! Get LOTS done! Terri O

ya TO I need some thoughts on the ducks and the waterer too, the coop floor is wet all around it. they empty the thing out. but I only bring out like 3 gallons. and return later with more water but those ducks empty it again and again.
Well I got sick kids again right before christmas. arg! had to postpone DD birthday party, she was sick. weird thing is is yesterday she was looking better but now she back at it again. :sigh: well gotta run

TO no not yet but their talking 5-7" here tonight, we're right on the edge of it so you know what that means. About a foot. Always like to watch dogs in the snow when they stick their noses in it and look up at you then snort and run like crazy. Ah to be young. Got the coop door to open a lot farther this morning, not all the way but plenty to get my gut through with room to spare. A long time till spring so I planned ahead for expansion.

L comes back home today after 4 days gone!

Already planning to have her make her spicy pork for the xmas time with the youngest DD and her Bo Wed. evening. Oldest DD is now back home in Ga. for xmas break from school in Ks. to spend time with her hubby and critters. And to relax a bit. She's making me a proud parent and SIL is making me a proud FIL! All GOOD kids! Laura will be glad to be home so she can do stuff.

I left the appartment door open while I was working on the coop door just to see how things would go. Some of the hens went in and didn't pick on Peatwo like before, he's getting to be a big boy now. But Buster went in and made sure that he understood who the boss was. I let them go for awhile then went in and picked up Peatwo to make sure he was OK and to let him know that daddy still loved him. Then picked up Buster and stroked his ears till he was calmed down. I swear if I put him on my lap and rubbed his ears and waddle that he'd fall asleep. As long as I'm not wearing my black jacket or carrying L's purse. Getting 4 eggs a day now out of 10 hens the poults are now outlaying the older girls. I know a lot of them aren't laying anymore and I'm kinda disappointed they layed so well for their first year. Buster has been doing his job with all that let him and am already thinking of an early May hatch of slw's. They'll be sooo CUTE!

Hope some of the slw hens will get broody, they should otherwise it'll be a bator hatch. Had a really good time this morning spending time with them. Imagine that! BCC Put me down on your poll for not using lights. It's an experiment. Guess I feel that we're getting all the eggs we need plus some for others. But I am running heat lights, I know you don't approve but the coop isn't insulated and I'm very careful about placement for a fire hazard.

Good Morning All,

Hey Doc the only birds I have that haven't gotten broody have been the SLWs, I don't know whats up with that but boy are they dependable layers.

thought I'd stop in just to say hello...heat wave coming with some snow, we're already up to 23! I might be grilling out tonight in my shorts and tshirt as the snow flies!

I was thinking the exact same thing!

Looks like Santa stopped by today as DW was home from work today. I know 3 boys are going to be a little excited when they get home from school. I told her to let em have it early since we travel for Christmas eve and Morning. At least this way they will get to play with it when they get it.

Picked up my birds I had smoked at Haen Meats. MMMMMMM

They are going to be tasty....

Buckle down and ready the snow blowers, gonna be another nice one from the looks of things! Be good All!!!!

Well looks like the snow has started, coming down at a pretty good rate, DH will be watching the radar so he know what time they need to go out to plow snow-probably late tonight or really early tomorrow morning.

Well our Aussie foster pup-Ty- left today as he was just unable to warm up to DH and seemed to be getting abit more comfortable being here and starting to growl more at DH so the gal from the rescue came and picked him up-they are leaning towards tying to find him a home without a guy around
fl.gif
hopefully they will find him the right forever home. Of course the kids were sad, especially DD as she was attached to him, but we are now watching a 4.5 month old puppy for them so that she would have enough room to take Ty back to her house since it is just her. Our new little one is named Ellie and she is laying by my chair watching everything going on! Of course the kids are asking about keeping her....told them we'll see as she has to meet DH yet and we would like to see the older 2 work a bit more with obedience training on our Irish Setter.

Thinking maybe we will candle the NY hatch eggs tonight

Well went out bow hunting this eve. Seen two does but have pics of alot of deer. Tryin to get a buck still. I know it's warmer today but still got a little chill after a couple hours. Might be going fishing later in the week. Had a restless night the last two with the new pup training and all. Started collecting eggs today for a hatch I would like to do.
H&R what are you hatching out. Did they get sent? Wondering if it was to cold to order eggs from out of state. Mike

Bite In The Wind Today Day.... thought it was gonna be gentle out today, but not the case at all here. Took a couple dozen over to the neighbor today. The wind was sharp for sure.
Had to call the vet today for one of the house cats...He can't control his pee...and ya know that will get your attention right away! He has feline urological syndrome, and has to be on meds. He is occupying the chicken hospital now til the meds allow him to be normal. Always something going on when you have a bunch of critters, eh! The emergency housing is a must have. I didn't always have it years ago when I was learning things, however being prepared for the unknown makes life much less stressful for all.
Yep, the pack coulda pulled it off with a few plays gone their way instead of away.

Hi everyone, I like the mentions of "fresh sheets" in the coops since I was planning on next week to do that myself. I would rather replace than do the DLM since it only takes one bale to do my coop. I guess I can afford $6 a month for fresh shavings. No snow here yet (Manitowoc County) but they are calling for 4 to 6" before tomorrow night. That will be a nice coat on already slippery side roads.
