Hey guys

Everyone must be busy with the beautiful day! I sadly worked all :,( but when I came home, the house was all cleaned! I told them that it was the best early mothersday present ever.
Chickens are well. We are too!
Jay, I would suggest separating that chick with one buddh. Possible it is on the bottom of the pecking prder and not getting as much... or just make sure they habe electrolytes in the water, amd look at it as survival of the fittest.
Cs, sounds like a very good dY.
Jim, I hope you get your service figured out soon! I like your posts.
Night all!
good morning,, the trouble I was having was that I was not getting notified "immediately" when posts came in on byc.. wasn't getting notified at all actually,, I got that fixed..

Hmmm,,that explains a lot fellas.. being at the bottom of the pecking order is why we are not getting as much ..

I cannot set all these chicken eggs today,, have to do it tomorrow and hope they don't hatch early.. I will not be home , I will be at the bash..

I suddenly realized that I have eggs to go into lockdown in about 2 days,, funny how that sneaks up on a guy, eh? I am ready for the first batch, but then there are another batch 3 days after that one,, I am not ready for that one,, I have to make a couple more hatching trays.. I can whip one out in less than an hour, so the hardest part is just getting at it..

I have a stack of egg trays to modify for stacking, too.. that too doesn't take more than a few minutes each,, same reason for not doing it.. (see above)..

Happy Mother's Day to all you Mothers..

.......jiminwisc..........

ETA: got the trays all modified, 31 more guinea eggs are in the bator already,, hatch date 6/8

turned on bator #3,, (the hatcher).. 98 eggs will be going into it tonight..

I have to make some inventory sheets with dates of hatch on them .. too many dates to remember,,, and which bator they are in..

time to go get all shaved and cleaned up.. company is coming from Middleton .. Son and SO .. I like her much better than either of his two ex-wives.. I hope they don't get married and spoil it ..

ETA:
I have two chicks waiting in the bator and many pips.. so much for my memory record keeping ..
am warming up the hatching tray before transferring the eggs over..

ETA: 3 chicks out and 96 eggs transferred to the hatching machine..

good afternoon, our company came and went,, Annie got called into work,,
I am all alone with my 10 new chicks.. more chirping in the shells..
vor new born, they sure are an active bunch.. I have them in the lowest shelf, the one with no cover over it.. IDK how long that will contain them,, It is only a 5 inch drop to the floor if they crawl out, so they will be OK..

I finished up hatcher tray #2 .. have it in the bator warming up for the next batch of chicks..

IDK what kind of chicks these are,, look like baby partridge ..

45% humidity and no stuck shells so far..

Happy mother's day to all the mamas out there! Hope you all had a lovely day.

I was super excited to meet Cindy today! She was very generous and gave us ten eggs and lent us an incubator. There were two pretty green eggs and one blue in the bunch :) We only have brown/pink and white, so that is fun lol.

We got home and our white silkie was back in her nesting area. I put two eggs there and she sat down right away.

Got the incubator plugged in and will be heading to the store to get a hydrometer soon! We'll watch the temp and whatnot, and read lots about incubating, before putting the eggs in.

Thank you Cindy for welcoming us and sharing some of your knowledge!! My kids loved your kitties!

for setting up the incubator, can I suggest a probe type thermometer ? It reacts instantly to the tiniest temperature change,, makes setting up much easier and quicker..

I use one called EGG TEMP .. I think Murray McMurray has them.. Or maybe you can find on on the internet..

I calibrated a few of my other thermometers to match the digital probe.. those I use for daily use..

Hey strangers. Sorry I have been MIA, busy with ahhh life... Hearing about the soccer games makes me yearn for those muddy cold spring days. Remember Moms, they go by in a blink.
I have a broody. Terri she is one of yours. So could I buy fertile turkey eggs, would she hatch them? Or am I better of just getting some muttly eggs and letting her try those to determine if she is a good mom?
How do I know she is broody? Sitting in the nest box all day making the other girls make other "arrangements" ( four boxes for 9 girls and they all like the "one") She fluffs and "growls" when disturbed, and there seems to be quite a few small feathers in the nest box. I think from what I have read it would be better to allow her to be broody than to attempt to "break" her. I do have a small coop were I can segregate her from the rest of the flock. Thanks all for the suggestions and helpful hints.

Nice warm evening everybody!
After finally getting some much needed sunshine and warm weather yesterday, where I also got my shoulders burnt just by sitting out with the ducklings, I got to relax a bit and rest my achy shoulders from even more sun, despite it still being warm today. It was a bit too muggy for me today, but right now, it is PERFECT! Can it just stay JUST like that?!?!

Anyways, we went to the (really small) Ladysmith swap yesterday. Not much going on, we bummed around for a good 1.5 hours before being too chilled and bored with only 5 vendors being there, one being the coffee/food guys. Lol. Hey, at least there was more than there was last year! Was hoping to see you there, Stacie, but we must have missed each other or you did not make it there. Would have been nice to meet you in person!

We didn't plan to really get anything big, as we knew that there is mostly chickens there, but we ended up getting 2 nice bird cages (one we use for our one day old baby pheasants right now) and one roo and chicken that someone really must have wanted to just get rid off. Both are 1 yr old and together they were only $10! But the seller had no clue what breeds. And I was wondering if all you experienced bird breeders/raisers/hatchers could take a look and give me a guess on them? Thanks in advance!
