Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon,

slight change of plans,, I did remove all of the cement forms..

then I tore out the door and door jamb. going to junk the jamb and build a new one,,

going to tear out the sub frame for the door, and replace it with treated wood..

I will take blow by blow pictures..

I was going to do a little lawn mowing, but the day got away from me..

Zeke was here today,, He found where the loader frame is bent.. so tomorrow my welder guy is supposed to come , and maybe he can heat it up enough to bend it straight again..

If he doesn't show up I can mow the lawn then,, or work on the chicken coop door. plenty to do around here.. have to pitch some more straw over the potato patch and soon I have to go pick up my chicken plucker.. those little white chicks have about 2 more weeks to grow..

I have some Buff Orp chicks about a week old.. I could part with 4 or 6 .. but I am not close to Madison..

..........jiminwisclurkingforawhile......

just got a call from my welder guy,, he is coming tomorrow..

Dodged a bullet with the VW. They changed the mileage for the belt change from 80k to 120k, so only an oil change and tire rotation....

Nothing else to report.

Hello everyone! I live in oak creek and am new to this website. We have 3 kc ducks that are almost 4 weeks old!
welcome to the group

New to this thread! Im in northern WI. I have a mixed flock of layers( my old gals)-Welsummers, RIR, Gold laced Wyandotte, Blue Andalusians, (new this year) speckled Sussex, Russian Orloffs, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. We also raise heritage turkeys(hatched our 1st 13 poults this year) and 1 duck!

Welcome to the group
Hi everyone...lurking a lot lately...between the vacation/ conference, lost my job, startd a new one, two sisters in town from out of testator and this weekend a rummage sale...plus kids activities...li has been bonkers. Chickens are good, getting rid of a pair of silkies...want to get out of them for now but kids want to keep their white one that was one of our originals...she is retired but a sweet girl.
I have a friend looking for day old chicks in next couple of weeks. They have the coop and are working on the run. They want them for eggs and eventually 4h. They want 4 but I said get at least 5 figuring a roo in the mix which they can't have. Figure two pure birds like buff orps or such and two EE colored egg layers...anyone have some hatching soon or just hatched in the Madison area?

Thanks guys
I have new hatched EES (2) and Orps too. Joe should be going to Madison for a visit possibly this weekend.

Here are some pictures (I'll do oldest to newest):

Yummy Cake!!!!

Theo & Cookie July 4th

Cute picture of Theo and Cookie

That sucks about the baby's..need more?

5 went to Wonderland and only "Alice" survived. I found one other, dead. All others are presumed dead, buried, and Wonderland is closed! All of the orps from my Easter hatch buried themselves alive attempting to hide from the "Queen of Hearts".
Meet Alice, a BLRW from Vicki!
Pretty girl...

Mel, I had a decent crop of cherries so I picked up some vodka today. The flavor, you ask? Wait for it.................. whipped cream. YUM! I taste tested it. It is nummy.

Vicki, which ones did you say would be the girls? The cuckoo ones? That would be my luck; there are only 2 of those................

Oh well, at least I am sending them off to crow at someone elses house.

That's all I got. Night all!

Evening all. Finally remembered what I was gonna ask yesterday (DUH!):

I hear a lot of you talking about heirloom seeds you'll be getting in the mail as surprise? What company are they from and how much does it cost, or is it via a membership? Just wondering...

Everything quiet here tonight. Ducks all cleaned and locked up, the babies grew and almost doubled in size these last 2 days I was gone and today was finally a day without rain! Now we just keep the fingers crossed for it actually stays that way for a few days so all the mud can dry again...

Concrete looks good Jim! We're still trying to figure out how to drain/divert some of the coops that kept collecting a lot of rain and/or melted snow water away from it. Gotta make this happen before the fall rains and the winter freeze and snow. But first I would really REALLY like to get some running water in the kitchen again!!! He keeps putting other projects first and says he will do it when the brat is here next time. Since I believe in fairies and flying saucers and all.... RIIIIGHT!

Also I decided to go on house cleaning strike. Just got cracked in this morning and already my hip and neck are out, twisted my ankle and slipped twice more on the mud. Mud, he didn't do anything (as usual) so the duckies went for the last 5 days (!!!) in their yucky straw. Disgusted and upset...

Okay, time to reacquaint myself with the bed, pillow and blanket. Peaceful snoozing to all!

Hi All!

CS.... Sorry about the Wonderland crew.... at least Alice returned.

Nothing really new except finely got the truck fixed (it sat for about a year) and just in time...Big Blue (the van) maybe to the point where she's not worth fixing

She's been through allot and served us well. She's had electric issues for years but now the back leaf springs broke through the back, the gas gage broke and a couple of days ago when I shut the driver's door, the latch busted right out of the door! All since the Bash! She will be missed.

Guess that's it..... Night All!

Been so very busy around here. Mainly building the new garage mainly all by myself and when I can get one of my boys to get off their butts and come help me
, hatching a bunch of chicks, taking care of baby and running here and there.

Hatching right now are Speckled Sussex, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Buff Orp, Lav Orp(1 Black Split so far), Lav Orp EE(everyone hatched has been Lav colored), F2 SSxSilkie/Cochin bred back to SS roo(working on a project), BOxMaran, Cochin Bantam, BLRW EE, and Layer/Meat project chicks. I have over 30 dozen set to hatch by end of the week and have a few dozen hatched so far. These Sportsmans sure were a good choice for me. I will always keep the little Brinsea though for small hatches. I have a CL ad for the chicks and will be taking what I have to the Ricestonian Swap in Wheeler on the 19th. I also have 40 layer/meat chicks a month old and over a dozen BLRW and BLRW EE nearly 2 months old(glad I have as I can see how nicely they are lacing) and some SS that a broody is hatching atm. I'm up to my ears in chicks. My white Cochin Bantam is sitting on a dozen eggs and the Silkie/CochinxSS girls both have a small batch of chicks along with 6 Guineas.

Had 3 loads of gravel put on the driveway Tuesday and they clearly didn't listen to a word I said when I told them where to put it. Had to borrow my hay guys skidsteer today to level it out as they had such a mess it was 2 feet in places and no way a car was going thru it. I did the wrong thing and drove my Jeep down and now have a bad noise coming form the passenger side front. I ended up getting partially stuck on my way in and had to get on it pretty good to get out. Just what I need is another thing to fix around here like I don't have enough to do. Suppose to be going on vacation after the 19th and need it in tip top shape for a trip to Kentucky just to have a look around if it's somewhere we may want to relocate to. Hay guy let me keep the skidsteer another day so I decided to use it hauling gravel to the garage floor to get it ready for a cement floor. I still have to build a screen room on the north end of the garage that will be 6'x16' have to get it at least framed so I can get the roof finished on the east side as I put a 3 foot eave to keep water off that garage door & service door. Still haven't figured out what is wrong with the John Deere skidsteer but the hay guy said he may know someone that could come help me get it going. I sure hope so as his is a Case and that JD will walk circles around it. But hey I can't complain, he's letting me use it for being pretty I guess. He's like me a good neighbor, he says it's because I give him eggs twice a week and won't take any money for it so I filled the skidsteer with fuel at least for him.

Anyhow I better go back to sleep, visitation tomorrow and daughter got kicked out of the shelter yesterday and now lives back in Ladysmith which is the worst decision she could make is come back where all her problems started around all the people she can't stay away from that gets her in trouble. My fingers are crossed that she has a new perspective on life! Have proof via FB that babies daddy has been coming to visits using meth & is still dealing and give it to the soc worker, what good that did as she told me her supervisor doesn't want to do drug testing anyhow to get the proof for the court that he's still using. He thinks it's a complete joke that he's fooling everyone and not getting caught. I was floored Tuesday by a comment the social made to me that she will be recommending to the dad to use his meth on Sundays and they will give him his visits on Fridays to make sure he's clear of the chemicals on his body and clothing. I can't believe they are encouraging him to do his drugs. What is this world coming to?! These poor babies coming into the world in these situations have it ruff I tell you. She told me they have one mother using needles instead of smoking it so it doesn't give residue off to the children to harm them and they encourage it. I don't understand why they even allow the parents to have visits knowing they are using drugs, just makes me sickened by it. And the thought of my poor grand baby having to grow up with parent(s) like this is saddening because she could have it so much better than that, she deserves so much better than that. Glad to know where everyones hard earned tax paying money goes when it comes to these deparments. What a waste! Anyhow they did give me a $10 gas card to help me. I said thanks but it doesn't cover one trip to Chippewa and I'm now going there and back twice a week and I guess now I have to do trips to Ladysmith now to. Gah, makes a person want to scream. Besides I was informed that I'm getting another home visit for a safety inspection as I have another report on me(sure it's the dads mother as she already had the state health deparment here) they are coming on Friday. Another thing for them to waste tax money on! Anyhow enough of my complaining.

Also forgot to mention that I am selling my small chicken coop photos below asking $300, do you think that is too much?
And I have 4 kittens black/white and grey/white for free and also grey/white and black/white mitten kittens I'm selling for $50 each. Photos below also.
Sharing some pictures of the grand baby and new garage.

Crawling June15 and below standing already on July 2

She's such a cutey, love her to death.

Garage so far. Window wall is the west wall so you can understand what I was saying about screen room on the north wall. I have a little more done since photo but not that you can see by this view.

cute coop with flower box and nesting box. Inside has a roost. I had 5 SS in here last year and thru the winter without a problem, I just moved them over to another coop I had room where I had power. It's built on a 4x4 pallet for easy moving and not sure how tall but I'm 5'5" and I can walk in door without a problem. Bigger window has a screen for summer and removable storm window for winter time. theirs a coop door that hinges down to a ramp to get in and out and to close up in the winter if you want them to not go out. Front of run has a removable screen to cleaning and easy access. It's a cute little coop that could use a good painting as the daughter never finished it and I don't have the time.

back of coop with nest box with access from outside.

Another view of the coop, sorry I haven't had time to mow grass with other stuff going on.

Willow and her mitten babies. 3 females and one male

Another of the babies, you can see their cute paws. They are older than the photo as I didn't get any recent ones but are eating and drinking on their own and using litter box.

I'm not sure anyone is going to pay for kittens. I know around here they wouldn't. Unless they are a special breed (ragdoll, savannah, etc.) We have way too many homeless cats and farms full of kittens this time of year.
