Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!
I need to get straw too. DH brought a load of logs to the backyard and left the truck sit. I don't know if I can get it out to get any now.

Maybe my son and his truck can get it.

Sorry about your friends wife BigZ, I'm sure you will be a comfort to him.

I made fried cabbage and noddles to go with the pork roast tonight, DH said that it was good and why didn't I make it before? Ummm, I make it 3-4 times a year!

The only thing different is I used purple cabbage! (BTW, you wind up with blue noddles!) Guess I should make it more often.

Night All!

So sorry to hear of your friends loss Bigz.
bbl4 sorry, bit we already have one more hen than drake. No fighting here. But I do not want to make it anymore uneven. ...
It is supposed to warmnthis weekend a little. We willnget all the chickies separated to their breeding pensm this way we will have chickies the right age for fair next year.
I splurged and bought new bigger waterers. The round metal onesnthat sit on a heater. And the darn things leak! So angry. All over the fresh bedding. Did not need this this time of year :/

My condolences to you and your friend BigZ. Lost my husband at a young age so learned the lesson early....If we live our lives each day with 'no guilt and no regrets' it won't really matter how short the stick is.

I know many of you here have dogs and some work with rescues so was wondering if anyone has tips on how to stop heel biting? Just got a new rescue in the other day and I've never dealt with this issue before.

A little warmer up here this morning but it's snowing again. Looks like this winter really is going to be a repeat of last year...bitter cold or snow, take your pick! With all the extra birds here this winter it's turning into a challenge. I need more heated water bowls. Jim, didn't you come up with a homemade bowl heater? Got the plans/instructions?

good morning, starting today off better than yesterday,, today Annie made the coffee.. much better..

Yes I did make a water base heater,, cut a 5 gallon pail off about 6 to 8 inches from the bottom,
mount a plastic or porcelain light fixture inside it to the bottom,, run a cord through a hole on the side next to the bottom of the pail, (top of the heater base) ..

I might have pictures of mine..

nothing happened since I wrote last ..no news is good news ..

Cooties, what time of year is best for waterer leaks ?

those metal waterers have to be set level ..

If you have holes in them, (if they are used) it is time for you to learn how to use JB Weld..
You will learn to love JBW as much as many of us do,, always keep JBW , duct tape, WD40 and Blast lubricant on hand .. WD40 is a quick lubricant, but it goes dry in a short time,, NEVER use it on an electric motor bearing.. that is not what it was made for,,

...........jiminwisc...........

I checked my pictures,, I do not have any of the heater, I must have deleted them when I was making room on my card..

Anyone try using a string of Christmas lights in a tin placed under the dish of water to keep it from freezing. Right now I only have 5 guinea and am not working, so hauling water out there is not an issue, but next year it will be a different story.

The lady who had the house before us kept a heater going in the guinea coop last winter - no way I am doing that! I will replace the missing window though.

I thought it was a fixture and bulb but couldn't remember the container...plastic pail, got it. For some reason I was thinking metal oil drain pan.
What watt bulb do you use?

$17 is a good price for the dish but I prefer a waterer (fount) if I can because with the dish they seem to spill as much as they drink. Maybe my birds are just slobs.

I gave up. Scott willnbe working it out at some point when he is done with work. I am too tired from working 12's to try tondeal with it myself.
I have looked at the water bowls. But they are so small for all of our animals! Lol and I bet the ducks would swim in it. I always have to go with the ones that drain into the lip.
I have been giving the horses 3 flakes of hay a day. People that have them, how much do you use(aapproximately) for a quarter size middle age horse? They are maintaining weight well. I just want to be sure to give them the right amount. They do toss it around out of the dish. But clean it up later.
