Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

some of you peeps are in my neck of the woods...I have a house in Oshkosh...well
jim im currently eating eggs and they seem to disappear to friends....ten dozen magically vanished last week...and five dozen yesterday...so I don't have that many eggs laying around...
holy coldness it is like 5 degrees here in Michigan....with no sun it makes it even worse and to be located at the top of the hill wowzer is that wind cold...
stove is running at 400 degrees and only keeping the house at 64
well going to the coops
Monday im getting two more lady Amherst hens so im excited about that
I got rid of all of my chickens for the winter,,
therefore no eggs.. I told Annie to let me know when we need eggs and I will go to a guy about 12 miles from here to get some,, I cannot tolerate any more of those store bought eggs,,
they run all over the pan when you crack them, and when I try to flip them, they yolk separates from the white,, just how old are those eggs, anyway ??
we don't exactly see eye to eye about the egg problem,, she looks at the price.. I feel that $2.5o per week is not too much to pay for eggs..

Jim, as far as I heard there are a lot of mods out there taking pet ads down before Christmas trying to avoid them becoming presents and then shelter filler when they outgrow the cuddliness of being puppy.
How much were you selling them for?

Not much new here besides that SO withheld the info that he will be off most of next week. And with the brat coming on mon or tues also I'm already debating how long it's gonna take me to quickly escape. Not looking forward to this Christmas at all.

Figure in gonna set up the pools today and let the ducks and geese have a go at it for the next couple of warm days before the next cold dip is coming next weekend. Gotta try to let them maintain their feathers as much as I can, as I'm not sure how long this winter is wanting to stay or how cold it's gonna be.

Debating on making a German cheesecake and some more cookies. Then some homemade German eggnog. Gotta use some of those eggs and make room in the fridge. Why he keeps them in there I don't know. In Europe we don't put them in the fridge at all and I have grown up just fine I'd say...

Too bad with the bird flu. Just wondering if they only gonna cull chickens or if they would also take out other outside birds? (Thinking about the ducks, pheasants and geese and turkeys). Don't know. Oh well... Not much I can do about it here anyways.

So later all!

good morning,

what are the police searching for ?

I have a theory about suplemental lighting,,
there is no scientific basis for this.. just my gut feelling,,
anyway,, divide the light between morning and evening instead of adding it all to just the morning,,
and second, if you can't divide the light,, add it to the end of the day instead of the beginning,,
that way the chickens can wake up normally and gradually with the natural rising of the sun, or in our case, the gradual lightening of the sky with no sun..
No shock waking up to a bright light..
by the end of the day they are still calm and content and the sudden darkness when the light goes out won't even be noticed.. they are mostly on the roost by then anyway ..

I put the puppies on craig's list.. the ad was bumped off within a couple of hours..
fricking cooks ..

they didn't do a thing about the cockatiel ad.. so tell me this, why is a puppy ad worse than a bird ad ? they should be equal ..
Annie has a bunch of cockatiels she want to get rid of while they are young,, cheap,,

I am sort of at a stand still with the plucker..
I have to go get some shafts and sprockets so I can move forward..
I think I have enough chain left from previous plucker builds ..

JIm- I do add light in the morning and evening (split), it's just something went wrong with the timer itself. Also, I have no idea what the police were looking for?

midday,
wildSam, you can give your geese and ducks bath water at any temperature,, I even have gone out when it was minus -20F ..
I have a rectangular mortar mixing tub that I bought from Menards many years ago.. I had two of them, but they don't hold up well under the weight of a tractor..

Put it in a place where you can reach it with a water hose,, fill it up and let them go to it..
then you can dump the 3 inches that are left in the bottom, or let it freeze and tip out the giant ice cube the next day,,

the water is at least 50F when you put it into the tub.. and it is still not frozen when they get done playing.. I think it actually helps them keep warm,, at least it won't make them colder..

I have seen the water bead up on the goose's back and freeze and roll off like BB"s ..

try it , they'll like it ..

do it in an out of the way place because it will become icy where the water gets splashed ..

maybe you can build an igloo out of the nice flat oversized ice cubes..

I have the price of the puppies high enough so that an impulse buyer would be deterred..

Afternoon All... nothing new here. They cut the corn today. We had deer running through the yard. It's a week late for gun hunting here. I'm happy I have the two in the freezer I do.

Jim the plucker looks really cool; I hope someday I can order one from you. The puppies are really cute too.

My 2 1/2 yr nephew was fine on Sunday. By Tuesday he was diagnosed with meningitis. Yesterday, they said he was brain dead. Terrible how fast your whole life can get turned upside down. Poor little kid just called me Auntie Yvette for the first time last week. I've never lost a family member other than my great grandparents. This is just unbelievable :(
