Crazy to work outside today for sure! Too cold for me--this morning it was 2! BBRRRR. I was glad that I had blanketed the "cold" horse yesterday.
I still have to head out and lock up...I guess I better do that before I decide to have another beverage! LOL.

Everyone have a safe and Happy New Year Celebration...and remember what my Dad always told me: "New Year's is amateur night...STAY HOME!"

Seems as if one of the dogs got tangled and unplugged the freezer. Too bad there was about 45 lbs of beef in there. ..completely thawed. Wonder if I can still cook it and feed it to the dogs at least. Such a bummer. I suppose on a brighter note we'll have more in about 6 weeks. And now we'll just have to eat more eggs hahaha

Hello all. We've been on vacation to see family in Indiana. Gpa stayed home to watch the critters. Theo is finally bending his leg at the knee

Chickens are doing well and laying steadily. I've got 5 dozen sitting around and decided to hard boil one.

BBP sorry to hear the news.

Jim- the pups are looking great!

HAPPY NEW YEAR


wow it sure has been cold. The poor birds waters are frozen by the time I walk back to the house. That is the only part I dislike about winter..frozen waters and constantly changing them. Someday I will need to figure out a better system or just not have them in all different pens. This year is the first year I have males always fighting at end of breeding season. I think I have them penned up too long in breeding pens then the cold hits and I let them all out at the same time. I probably need to run a bachelor coop and alternate them more often before the big release. I penned them up longer because Cookie is just not ready to have birds all over. I will be trying her with free ranging a few hours a day this coming year and see how that goes. She constantly put them back in the coops now.

I may have to hit some of you up for eggs in the next week or two! I have a few cakes to make and the Swiss meringue as well and I would SO much rather use some of those wonderful farm eggs than the junk from the store! I made another trial yellow cake today, I liked this one more than the first. It was not as greasy and not as sweet. #3 tomorrow!

Hating this cold weather........ ugh, even down by CS and Deli it is better than the middle of the state! A balmy 9* today. Yuck.



Not going out tomorrow night, staying home and making our own version of surf and turf. Venison back strap and shrimp. I am also taking the tree down. I know my DH would like to see it up past the 1st of January, but since his only contribution is to cut the tree down and bring it in and out of the house, I think I can make the decision to remove the decorations.

Hi All!

Wow TO... Was she raising them or eating them? That's a lot to deal with this time of year.

I got a rooster that seems to have broken a leg. I noticed it when I closed up tonight. Too d@mn cold to deal with it now!

I'll butcher him, but no good place to dress him out now, I'll have to do it in the kitchen, which means I'll have to stand, which means it will take 3 times as long because I'll have to keep going to sit down. Grrrr

DH and I got invited to a New Years party from some of his church friends.... not thrilled, but he wants to go.

Nothing else I guess.... Night All.

good morning, nine below here.. glad I don't have to go out and mess with a bunch of chickens.
nothing starting here,, no truck, no tractor, only Annie's car does..

going to my sister's for New Year's party,, going to stay there afterwards..

thinking I will put the new motor on the table saw today.. It is less HP and less RPM,, curious to see how it will cut ..
