Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

I think the flu thing has everyone on edge! One of my roosters coughed this afternoon and I watched him for about 10min. to see if he did it again, guess it was nothing.

FT.... "Wheelock Poultry in Delavan" I got some chicks from him a couple of years ago and the did fine. I think he's involved with 4H poultry in the area. He's an older guy.

Hope your mom gets to come home soon!

Night All!

This is the handout they had at the Pollurum Seminar, hope you can read it. Not sure if it's anymore helpful than info you found online. I think they also said death within 14 hours of symptoms showing.

well, here we go again,, another big chicken operation gets the flu and they start to go after the small guys..

Terri , I know it is not possible, but relax.. How are they going to catch all of your birds ?
If I were you, I would not lift a finger to help.. they want to test, let them do all the work..
IMHO
did they say if they were going to charge you $$$ for it ?

I would make them test the ones that seem virile as well as any sickly ones..

Heather, your goose should be the one to talk about being full of $hit ..

today is lockdown day for 120 eggs .. I hope I have room in the bottom of the hatcher for that many.

Terri...hoping it goes well...keep us posted!
Tomorrow is lockdown for me Jim so I am right behind ya with the chicks...although not 120 of them!

Where can you get your food grade DE? I need to set up my spring sand pit for the chickens and like adding some DE. Local place sells it by the small baggie...looking for bigger options.

Morning to everyone....Good Luck Terri, hope everything turns out fine. I'm betting all will check out ok!

I've only used a Brinsea and follow their directions. They say lockdown 2 days before the hatch is do. I remove from the turner on day 19 and fill the water trays till full....I also add 2 wet washcloths for added moisture, folded on both sides of the water channel. Hatching..... the RH should be 65% or higher, and the vent window needs to be at least 1/3 open during hatching. Maybe they require the RH to be such, do to the fact that the eggs are all inches from the fan? Don't shoot me Jim, just sayin what Brinsea is sayin...and that's the truth.

Like I said, I know nothing about the Brinsea ..
If it works, do it ..

When I first got our incubator, I pmd Jim. He gave me setup directions. I habe not touched anything on it since. I habe amazing hatches. The only time eggs do not hatch well in mine is when we have to hatch them in January for the kids to grow out for showing. I believe those have poor hat h rate because I am not able to collect u til approximately 4 pm. And they get too cold.
Terri, please keep us posted. I am thinking of you. I am a bit worried also. If they say it can come from wild birds. We throw out scrathc. And the wild birds are I right with ours eating it. I am now changing that. All feed is now fed indoors only. To prevent wild birds from wanting to linger. Just incase.
Have a good day all!

from what i have heard is that if your flock test positive they take the birds and dispose of them...
on another not if you want to kill the disease when setting eggs they have a product called tek trol
http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_library...e0778d-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5&showText=1
this kills just about every disease out there.....even hiv...and during your incubation the diseases cant really live in that environment...so my advice is use this product...i have used this and it is great...

warm to hot water between 78-110 degrees for a gallon and place the eggs in and wash by hand...then place into the incubator...this is your best bet...
another thing terry is that think to yourself and ask yourself when is the last time you got birds out of your flock...from someone else...as long as it hasnt been for a while...i wouldnt worry about it...the only way you could have it is...if you have people from other farms at your place or a bird that was carrying the disease pooped and one of the birds ate it...as long as you have strict bio security then your chances with having it on your farm is not likely...but im hoping for the best for you
