I ordered and received the no-crow collar. My rooster is only 11 weeks old and not very loud. Yet. Not sure when to put it on him, but I'll be playing it by ear. The hens are doing well. It turns out they like chicken pot pie (though what I was thinking baking it during the summer....). How are you doing, Firstchic? I do like the name Zeke, Jim. A lot!

Busy time of the year. My broilers arrived on Tuesday. For the 2nd time in 2 years...the coop did not contact me when sunnyside told them they would have to change my order from cockerels to straight run. No more ordering from the coop. I would have gladly waited until August for the cockerels.

you probably know I ordered all pullets.. I don't think you will be too disappointed in their size at 8 weeks..
I switched them to finely ground oats and corn 50/50 mix.. at 2 weeks old..
the cost of the feed is about half of what crumbles cost, so I can feed them longer if I have to, without losing any money ..

Hey I'm good. Been thinking of more questions......like do you have to have a broodie hen before you leave eggs under her? And, if you are not going to use a , what do you call it, (the thing you put the eggs in to hatch), the hen will just sit on them all the time until they hatch. Cause I'm quite sure they did not have those whatchamacallits, back in the old days. And the chickens live on to this day.

Hey 45ish, why would you put a no crow collar on a rooster? Unless you live in town I suppose neighbors would not like to be woke early in the am. And, do you have to leave it on or do they get trained like a dog with a no bark collar?
