Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanksgiving Eve to everyone....good to hear that some are getting a good supply of fresh eggs. The molt is still present here, with some almost bald with the hard molt.....hope the weather holds off enough for them to gain their feathers before it's brutal outside.

Making wild turkey tomorrow with stuff from the gardens...like buttercup squash, mashed potatoes, and glazed carrots, as well as stuffing and wild rice, bread rolls...mince meat pie for dessert.

I'm Thankful for every day.....Peace....bigz

we are getting a steady 3 a day from our 6.. I think they have a new hiding place under the white truck.. no way to collect them from under there..

I am finally all done with the meat.. 4 nice roasts, 7 pounds of stew meat, and 17 pounds of hamburger,, plus the ribs and about 10 pounds of sirloin and tenderloin steaks. and a nice neck roast. and for the dogs, 15 pounds of scraps ground up into hamburger .. once it is cooked , it doesn't look any different than the regular hamburger.. looks even better than the store bought stuff..
Oh yeah, I made about 3 gallons of bone soup for the dogs..we mix a little of it with their dog food and they really gobble it down,. makes me think I want to be reincarnated as a dog..

Jim, I think I want to come to your place for dinner tomorrow! I have been getting 9-11/14 everyday. Thrilled!!! That may very well explain the 2 hearts, btw!
anybody is welcome to come,, we will just add more water to the soup.. we will be eating about 2:eek:o o'clock..

Brent, I have been hungry for fresh dinner rolls lately.. It has been a long time since I made any,, I wonder if I still know how..

Hi All!

The kids are all going to their dad's side for Thanksgiving, except Jon, but he won't be coming home from Hawaii. DH and I are going to sleep and eat surff-n-turff.

Night All.

Jim: sounds delicious!

Hubby and I are making cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs for my mom's celebration. We made fresh vegetable stock last night for the stuffing, and it turned out fantastic! The eggs fresh at home have been such a blessing for holiday cooking. We even used up the eggs from the hidden nest for the deviled eggs; none of them floated at all.

13 out of 14 hens laid an egg Tuesday! That's the highest count we have had; 8-10 seems normal. We are supplementing light with a fluorescent in the AM and PM with a timer.

I think we have an egg pecker/eater. Any ideas on how to figure out who it is or to stop it? She seems to only be breaking and eating her own... it's one of the brown layers, of which I have 9.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to all..
I am starting the day off a bit miffed.. the kids said they would clean up the rest of the kitchen,, so I went to bed.. I had all the kettles and meat mess cleaned up.. Need I say more ?

Something large fell outside.. I was still in bed. I can't imagine what it was.. sounded like a pile of wire cages or snow sliding off the metal roof.. we don't have snow, and I don't have a pile of metal cages next to the house..

I will do a walk about later. after I make a pot o coffee..

.an egg eater is hard to catch,, you have to catch her in the act.they are not too smart, though,, they will do it right in front of you.. you just have to be there,,
Keep in mind, that it could be accidental.. you might just have a clumsy hen who steps on the eggs too hard.. at that point, any chicken will eat the broken egg..

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone! Yep, like Jim said, any chicken will eat a broken egg. The biggest problem with a true egg eater, is that it will teach others the terrible behavior.

Rain here, so waiting to hunt prolly Saturday.....enjoy the Holiday.

We just have 13 long beard Turkeys walk in the yard. They sure are big specimens...kinda neat seiing it's Turkey Day. They are safe here....Lucky birds!
