Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I checked out your thread,
I would be careful about the info you will receive there.
the barred ones look to be barred rocks.
production reds and Rhode Island reds are not the same thing.
the one could be a buff orpington, or some other buff..
try to take close up pics of the individual birds.

CC knows Dominiques.. Doms and barred rocks are not the same..

..........jiminwisc.........
I will do my best to get better pix. Maybe I will have my daughter hold them while I do.

Jim is right. Doms & barred rocks aren't the same. Doms have rose combs while rocks have regular combs.

I had a Dom roo mate a Aussie & she hatched out what looked like 3 Doms & 2 rocks. The barring is a dominant gene so they all had great black & white barring, but 3 got his comb while 2 got their mothers. They all look like they would be pure breeds but they are not.

The 2 darkest red ones of yours look like RIRs. I would hazard a guess that the lighter ones could be mutts of the Reds, production breeds or New Hampshires (both of the latter can appear similar).

Bottom line, there is no real way to know for certain if they are pure or not, IMHO. But that is just my opinion.

I don't really care what they are, they are mine. I got them for free and in bad condition. Still have a couple that will not grow feathers on their backs, poor girls. They had 5 roosters in with them and were beat up pretty bad and not fed well. I am trying to do my best by them. I was just kind of curious as to what they might be. They are giving me an average of 10 eggs a day so I won't complain. The guy I got them from had bought a hundred or 2 in the spring and this is what he had left. I would like to pick up a few this spring that lay green and blue eggs just for the novelty of it. I have no intention to show them.

Yes, it will be a good way to spend time with my daughter. She loves picking them up anyway. I'm sure if I get chicks in the spring they will all be spoiled rotten pets that follow her around.

probably if you just pull up some pictures online of chickens,
compare the pictures and descriptions to your chickens..that should give you as good an idea of what you have as any opinions from byc .. (cheeseheads excluded of course)..

Hi All!

Congrats on the new chickens!

Congrats on the new goslings!

I am....doing. It's taking longer than what I thought it would to feel better. Still get tired real easy and a bit out of breath. Haven't had the guts to solo anywhere outside yet. Sure miss my birds. Maybe Fri. I can go down to the coop when DH feeds. I guess it will take a while.

Night All.

Hi guys! Hubby built an awesome insulated doohiggy for our water drums in the varn. So far it is working great! So great not to haul water this winter!
Hope you are all having a great day :) congrats on the goslings Jim!

congrats on the goslings Jim!
thanks for the congrats, although I had very little to do with it.
I just went and gave them fresh water and more feed.. I suspect the big geese are eating most of the feed...

I went to F&F and bought a new wash machine double shut off valve.. I am not going to mess with putting it in today,, going to just take it easy and leaving to go to my sister's house about 4:eek:o

I don't plan on ringing in the new year there, it all depends on how much fun I am having, I guess..

Happy New Years Eve to All...hope you all have a great one!

Congrats on the new arrivals this late in the year (last day) LOL!

Dae your hens with the bald backs won't grow new feathers till they molt....then they will grow back just perfect.

This has been a good easy Winter so far in regards to carrying extra water...I like that just fine...maybe you can share a pic of your insulated idea cuties? I like the idea with the insulation.

Stay Safe...bigz
