Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

thanks for the picture , I always like to hear about our adopted out children...

Theo looks more like his father, than his mother. He also has the lean look of our Zeke..
too bad he has crossed eyes.

you can feel the sun's heat today, but it still feels cold outside.

Our mail girl said she will deliver the mail to the house until I get the mailbox up.

went to Marathon (pronounced Mart'n) to the locals) for coffee this morning, Curt and Jo's. right at the off ramp from hwy 29 / cth 107 . good food there if you are ever passing through. closed on Mondays .

then I went and picked up the pick up. Oil change, new serpentine belt and a pulley plus a few other minor adjustments.. $303.45 . this should take care of my battery problems for awhile.

BTW, our dogs bark at anybody driving up the driveway. even us. makes it hard to sneak in late at night..
but they do cease when I tell them OK if a stranger is sitting in their car. sometimes I do not say OK if I am not sure of who it is or what they want.
these dogs notice slight descrepencies , like if I draw my coat up over my head. Frankie knows it is me, but she still is not comfortable with it.

Only 2 eggs today, might have to put a stronger light in the coop. maybe a spotlight ?

A 5am to 10pm daylight cycle is still a far cry from 24/7 can't even call your logic flawed because it isn't logic at all, and if you wanted to make that argument Alaska in summer has longer days than down south ever gets................

I got 6/6 eggs today because the youngest hen in the bunch laid her first egg I only expect 5 to lay and have been getting 3-5 with 5 being more common. Earlier this week I set the morning light to come on LATER as I want to phase out the artificial light as the days naturally lengthen, on at about 4:30 with a natural evening which is what dark by 5:30. The one that began laying today was a late August hatch, so they didn't start laying young but now that they have they are nice and consistent, and none are commercial production breeds. Cream Legbar, Easter Egger, Delaware, and the Olive Egger. They seem to thrive on 13 hours.

Sooo, now where is to each his own ?
It seems that certain people just want to criticize, and If I speak up, then I am going to be the one who the mods go after, not the person who is the inflamer .. the mods never go back to the root of the uprising.

It seems to me that this is just all a matter of degree.
just stretch the daylight until it suits your needs,
but if somebody else does something else, it is wrong because it doesn't agree with you.
If someone is such a purist, then why extend the daylight at all ? .

I am still waiting for the clarification of how to tell if a chicken is stressed ?

btw, it is just about 6 pm, I just looked through window of my coop and the chickens are asleep with their eyes closed.. they sure looked content and warm.

Jim-were you saying Theo or Zeke is cross eyed? Because Theo is not. I'd have to look at the picture of him that I posted, but if it portrays him as cross eyed, it's just a bad picture. How did you get your dogs to stop barking when you said OK? I've used OK, shh, no bark and enough, all of which he knows. I only use more than OK if I have to repeat myself which is always. The closer he has gotten to 2yrs, the more he is chosing to do his own thing and not listen to commands as much on his choosing.

Anyways, I finally have eggs again. Well, I got two yesterday and none today, but at least the are starting up again!

relax, the way the light hit Theo's eye made him look funny to me..

maybe stick to just one command , I like OK because it is quick..

try confronting him when you give the command. like stand right in front of him so he knows you mean business,
and say it as if you are going to kill him if he doesn't do it.

kind of like training a wife.. you take a 2x4 and smack her along side of the head.. why ? first you gotta get her attention.,.

Now I will sit back and wait for the rebuttal from someone who knows way much more than I do.
You know who you are..

And then the wife takes the cast iron to the husbands head?
wink.png

of course not, that would hurt ..

I'll keep trying with OK and put some serious tone behind it. I have this kinda scruffy sound that he doesn't like and it gets his attention, I actually forgot about it, but I think it needs to make a return!!!!!

And I'll give you a good smack upside yer ole noggin Mister! LOL We've all been down he road of disagreements and squabbling before and it all pans out for the best, eh?

Moving onto another subject....gardening, eggs, chickens, and the bash. We got that ole tractor tire out of our backyard finally, the septic was fixed last summer and the backyard will be ready for edible planting again this year (I was a bit weary about planting much in the 0-20ft range around the "project site" this past summer, so I just planted greens for my bearded dragon). We are going to do sweet potatoes, squash, tomatoes (of course), peppers, cukes, beets, swiss chard, oh and I don't know what else. I'm hoping that my choke cherry tree is in good form this year. Last year, it was recovering from a transplant from the neighbors yard into ours and although it did fruit, I didn't pick them as I didn't want to encourage new growth. We are also hoping for a better maple syrup collection this year. Last year, we had a short window and it occurred while we were in Costa Rica

Also, our bing cherry and apricot should be good this year, it is their second year.

Eggs and chickens-beefing up the FF for the hens, to encourage their healthy egg laying

. The 2 eggs we got just recently looked really good, now I just need to figure out who is and who is not laying to eliminate my free-loaders. I'll wait until spring comes and the laying is strong, I know I've got some really old ones (most of which have been my reliable layers and broodies), but it is the young'uns that seem to not lay eggs. You know what the Queen of Hearts always says? Brent, if my good broodies get going early, I wonder if you'd be interested/willing to ship some of your fertile eggs?

TerriO-are you going to make the new site for the bash? I'll look into the details on how to make it in the meantime.

Alright all, seeing that I've pulled an FT, I'll end and say good night.
