oh u big meanies quit picking on newbies!

I used to think THEY knew what they were talking about, till I hatched some eggs that is.

It's freaking cold! I got a window above my computer and the heat register below, the window is winning, I'm cold! talk about drifts!

waist deep here! theres a drift on 2 sides of the chicken coop but THANKFULLY they're like 5 ft away from the coop? how ever that works?! I see grass between the coop and the drifts? I dont get it? I think the drift wanted to keep it's distance from the coop

it stinks in there!

no school today, got a call from school at 10:30 last night just to tell me that!

lucky for them I was awake. DH was bailing water from the basement. The power went out for about 1 1/5 hours. Brrrrr! got chilly. power company call this a.m. and said that 4172 people were out of power. NOW I gotta go finish my 'bators power went out while I was finishing them up. did alittle bit by candle light, that was fun!

BCC didn't you know that those chicks are suppose to hatch ON day 21 and no later?! couldn't refuse!

What a day! Sat at my sisters drinking coffee and letting the kids run all over the place outside this afternoon; they should sleep well tonight! After we came home the girls and I sat down and watched the classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?". I wish Netflix had more of the classics on the instant viewing, but I suppose Ted Turner does not want to shell them out.......

I am hoping to have better driving conditions tomorrow!

I think I am going to write up some hatching instrucions.. I am going to glean all the wisdom from the incubation threads..
I am going to start it like this: humidity can be anywhere from 10% to 80% from day one right through "lockdown".
If your temperature varies more than .5F, toss the eggs and start over. In some eggs there seems to grow a second membrane.. This is the one you have to watch out for.. I can slip and slide around inside the shell and causes all sorts of problems..

I got everything plowed today.. It snowed another inch while and after I got finished.. that brown ice rink under the snow gave me fits.. Annies car wouldn't move on it. I tried pulling with the tractor, it just sat and spun.. then I got the 4 wheel Blazer hooked up to the car.. It walked it right out of there.. I have snow piles all over the place.. they won't melt until the end of July..

My clutching knee and my braking hip are really sore tonight.
I did enough pedaling on that tractor that if I were on a bike, I could be in florida by now..LOL

By saturday, I should have enough eggs for another batch in the bator.. then that is all that I am going to hatch from that bunch of hens.. I just figured out how to make another breeding pen..
I am going to band all those red stars and turn them into the main coop. then i am going to put all the Delawares into the guinea pen where the red stars were/are now..

I gotta get the new turkeys banded also so I can let those hens get at Tommy..

It's miller time,, Annie brought home some lite beer, YUK !! Might as well drink Alka Seltzer.. I am drining wine until that near-beer is all gone..LOL

Ha! You are a lucky man Jim....I am drinking WATER! Took me quite a while to catch up tonight. I got home from work at 9 and ate rice with spaghetti sauce(that DH made) on top. It was good and I was actually hungry...I hope it is good to my guts! I had to actually take a nap this afternoon cause I felt so crappy!~

SUre am glad I got home when I did...the snow is really coming down now and the wind has shifted to the South so it is all blowing right on my porch! I really need to make some "winter windows" for it out of something sturdier than plastic! It got all shredded in the last wind and I never put more on there--it was the 8mil stuff too!

In a year or two we will have quite the preschool set! Us "wanna be" grandmas will be in our glory!

My incubator has been running and running! We are now starting to think that the thermostat might be faulty. It never seems to actually shut off. It was up to 104 today so I turned it down a smidge, but the light didnt go off...the other one that I had was much easier I think. I might just decide to tear it apart and make one out of the cooler I have. I am getting a little frustrated with the whole thing!

Well--I think I am going to hit the hay...another big work day tomorrow! Sleep tight! Terri O

Funny, I owned a pet store years ago and I never cared for the birds. I even had a breeding pair of cocktails. Never got me excited. But the chickens I find fascinating! But then, I was around chickens allot more as a kid. They are growing on DH too! He didn't even flinch when I said I want 20-25 by the end of summer!

Well, when I checked at midnight we had about 2" of snow....they say we should get about 4". The door knob to coop froze... that was fun!.....NOT!

good morning all, the coffee is on..

woke up early again.. I sure hope this doesn't become a habit.

I fell asleep with tv on, I woke up to some a hole telling me how much better I would sleep if I had a dial a number bed,SHUT UP!
I was sleeping just fine until I heard you droning on and on..LOL

HELP my humidity dropped to 37% for about an hour last night,,do you think I should throw the eggs away? it is holding steady at 40% right now..

I didn't notice if it snowed here.. I don't think so.. the sun is supposed to be shining today.. I have a little touch-up plowing to do.

Good Morning Everyone! Cind sounds like your sickness is coming right along.

TO that would be aggrivating about the bator. Jim do ya have chains? With my little tractor I wouldn't get very far without them. And wheel weights. Good jab at Bigz about his tractor! bl4 Ted is probably busy ruining them with colorization. It really irks me that he did that to so many classics. It's just wrong! Raimnel waist deep snow? Oh ya your short one end.

BCC sounds like your DH's day really sucked! Went to put the kids to bed last night and the coop door wouldn't close think there's some crap in the corner. Dug at it enough to get it closed but need to get it cleaned out TODAY! Gotta get some wood in too. Going to have to plow out back soon to get some brought in. Going to Home Depot this morning and do some preshopping. Been looking on line but it's not the same. Better get movin.
