Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

at about 52 seconds there is a water trough on the right that looks like a "giant" cut up soda bottle. I think it is some scale trickery. Easier to believe than a rhea size chicken anyway.

this is the biggest rooster I have ever seen. I would be scared to be within a mile of this. Is it even possible?!?'

he is a big boy .. the added fluff of feathers amplifies it.
I watched a couple of the next videos on there.
there are two fighting, and then their wives get into it.
just like a neighborhood dispute .

Just saw my first Turkey Vulture of the season today....they migrate to South America for the Winter, but are starting to show up again in Wisconsin. Just Sayin.

just tried pounding in some t posts. Can't get much more than 6 inches or so. I'm thinking there's more frost than I thought yet

Yep cw, those are actually the size Light Brahama Roo's that you end up with Mark Peterson's line that I talk about now and then.....mine was that big, tell it got into the moldy sunflower heads that tipped over and I was to lazy to worry about.....in caution for those of you that grow sunflowers, if the large plants get blown over, don't allow the heads to lay there and become moldy....with the birds just trying some of them, it can end up bad for the birds that try them.

So what size are the eggs that those dino-chickens lay?

Here it is 2" mud then 3-4 inches of frost, buried a chicken the other day.

Kids(young) were with me the other day when I found our first pet chicken casualty, accidental death, she found a way to get her head stick at a gap in the roost barrier I put on top of the nestbox.

Once I got thru the frost we found some worms for the chickens, that cheered the kids back up some.

good evening,
last spring I tried driving a pointed mailbox stake into the shoulder of the road. That wouldn't even go through the
frost.

busy day with Dr appts here tomorrow. I should be done with mine before noon.

The guest chickens went home today.

It was strange at lockup time when there were no chickens with any white feathers out there.
the geese opted to sleep outside tonight. if the weather gets too unbearable, they go into the garage.
It was raining at 8 PM.

good first day of spring morning,

at least we will get a good taste of what's to come.

I am thinking of using T-posts for my grape vines.I will have to devise a good way to brace the two end posts. I have to stretch wires from end to end.

Good spring morning! I crunched across last nights hail on the way to the barn to feed the chickens this morning. Nice spring thunder and lightning show last night. I opened the pop door after filling the feeder and all the chickens went out in a steady line of fuzzy butts. lol!
I have been throwing some sunflower seeds out the door when I open it in the morning, just to encourage them to go out since they boycotted outside most of the winter. They are finally tearing up the haybale that I put out there in February. Maybe the sunflower seeds that settled into the bale are starting to sprout...

First Day Of Spring is finally here....dang that took forever it felt like.

Dae, in regards to their eggs, suprisingly they actually mostly lay medium size eggs leaning towards large, although my observance is that the yolks are larger than you would expect. The large roo's are clumsy for sure and mating can be a problem for them.

The wild turkeys sure had their strut on this morning....won't be long now till hunting season.
