Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi Jim! I would love some strawberries. I am traveling for work right now but will be home tomorrow. I have grand plans to build a garden tower out of a 55 gallon plastic barrel. Have you seen plans for them on YouTube? Not sure I can make them, but I'm willing to give it a try. Sorry about the font size as my iPhone won't let me enlarge it.

I can read you. I talked to DD Barby tonight.
I told her to save me plenty of the baby plants.

I have seen quite a variety of planters.

so far I like the Dutch 5 gallon pails the best.

I might have a chance to pick up some 3 1/2 gal pails.
I would like to give them a whirl also.

I can't go pick up anything until me truck comes back from the fixit shop. I can pick up the strawberries, though..

I will give the barrels a look..

I looked up the 55 gal planter.
It seems to me that you could plant way more strawberries if you just drilled 1 1/2" holes instead of going through all that work to heat up the plastic and shaping it.
maybe for larger plants that extra work is worth the effort.

just talked to DD again. she brought up the point that you need about a foot diameter for the strawberry foilage.
so maybe 50 in a barrel is the correct amount.

she also said that pockets are better than bare holes because the dirt washes out of the bare holes..

so I am thinking, just smaller pockets instead of doing the 2x4 board thingy.

nothing stuck today but man were the flakes huge! was kind of nice tho taking a break from all the spring outside projects and getting caught up on this sadly neglected house of ours.

oh and sorry for the poor introduction! ha! we live near the fox cities i gues you could say and just recently moved into our little country paradise out in no mans land. we have plenty of projects planned for our 3 acres and i feel like we have a good start on it already. but will that list ever end? i doubt it. will this weather ever cooperate long enough to actually finish half these started projects. oh man its going to be a long summer. this will also be our first year with chickens, a life long dream of mine, and i just cant wait to find that first egg. anyways it will be nice getting to know everyone and learning from you all as well! just wanted to say hi and share alittle about us.

good morning,

we still have some snow sticking in the trees.
Snow fact: Large flakes will melt soon. Small flakes will stick around for awhile.. All flakes get to be a PITA ..

You can find a lifetime of projects on 3 acres of land.

Did you buy 3 acres or renting ?

Never assume it is too late in life to plant a tree. Somebody will enjoy it some day.. and it might even be you.. so don't put it off, go plant a tree this week

the really nice way to get to know people from chz hds is to come to the bash in June..

Yep, I'm gonna be sure to bring a couple quarts of pickled asparagus ...one of the regular and one with the added red pepper. Maybe make a couple pizzas too Friday night. Did you see my posts about the truck rim cs? I'll bring it to the bash for inspection, if you are interested in it, or pay more for one in Black Creek. Mine is priced at $10.

Holy rain cow here today....

Bigz, yes I'd love to look at it. I don't remember what size it was though. Did you say 24 in?

bash in june? sounds fun!

in november we moved in to a home we bought on 3 acres that was never used as a farmstead i guess you could say. im so grateful there is a huge garden, apple trees, and blackberries already established. but we have been crazy busy since i swear january clearing trees, brush and basically just trying to get it ready for whatever comes next. we started with 6 chickens a few weeks back and i have another 16 coming(they better) tomorrow. then coming on may 4th comes 10 turkeys. so we are onto a good start! we were busy building a coop last weekend but man i should have known not to leave those men unattended. haha! its turned into a poultry palace in the sky. next will be starting on the run and chicken yard trying to get ready for that first batch living in my basement as we speak. i have asaragus, strawberries, rhubarb, and about 30 trees to get planted as well.it feels as tho im outside every chance i get and shockingly yesterday i loved the crappy weather day since it forced me inside to get caught up on the house that has sadly been neglected the past few weeks. we also have four dogs, 3 german shepherds and a boxer who are absolutely loving their new yard to run. i am worried about the dogs and the chickens outside but i have been working with them inside every day and am rather hopeful that someday can free range occasionally and not sacrifice our birds everytime. our youngest, rebel, the one pictured as my avatar has been amazing! and he is the one im most worried about when we get them outside. he is for sure a bird chaser!

Well, even though it was raining I got the gutter cleaned out and moved a bunch of flowers around. Also finished getting the netting over the strawberry beds as they are flowering now. Gotta get my butt into gear now.
