Interesting tidbit on layer feed and roosters…. Ours are just fine eating layer feed, still going strong and as sassy as ever… 🤷🏻‍♀️
I have 9 hens and one rooster and I have no intention of feeding him something special.
I do buy a bag of scratch from farm and fleet which is just grains. And I throw a few handfuls out into the run every day or 2 that way, they keep the run nice and clean and tidy with their pecking and scratching and they get a little something else to eat too.
When I give them scratch I hold the first handful out and henry always takes a bite or two and then I throw it around

So you say spring is around the corner?
-1deg this am
I wonder where that corner is at?

I throw couple 3 handfuls corn out as scratch in the winter, Extra energy for the cold weather.
I can get winter rye seed and buy it to reseed after picking sweet corn. Think this year if it is cheap enough buy 100 lbs and incorporate into their feed. prolly mix in 10 to 15 percent.

The chickens eat enough of it when i broadcast it for seeding.

there was a bank of snow hanging off of the roof.
like a glacier.. at two AM it let loose. woke both of us up.
Now there is another one forming. but with the rain and
warm weather, I suspect it will all let loose at once.
the town snow plow took out our mailbox. again.....
I think this is the seventh time..
