Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Unlike most, I have a shelf built for the hens to roost above the nest boxes.
It's not a problem, but a blessing for easy clean-up every morning
without bending over. The hens love the area, and it has nothing to do with where they lay eggs. I have no problems with the hens above the nest boxes ... just sayin.

Stay Safe ...bigz

What a let down. the rain went just to the north
of us. We could hear the thunder. Radar showed
the rain heading straight for us, then it dried up
just as it was about to hit.
I got my last watering out of the rain barrel on Monday.
just a small cloud burst would have filled it back up.
I can run the pump, but the water is so cold..
I think I will run water into the rain barrel and let it warm
up that way..

Really been hit and miss across the state this year. The line of storms came thru last night. Not sure what we got, but sure needed it.

I'm so glad many of you are finally getting some rain. We had two days with some rain as well but agree that we could all use several more 1/2 inch rain days.

Happy 4th to you all!!

Quick rooster question, when do roos come to maturity to where they'll actually fertilize? Ours just found their voices.
I think its at like 20 weeks or whenever they start mating. Im not sure ive never had one.

I recently spent $6,500 on a young registered Black Angus bull...
I put him out with the herd but he just ate grass and wouldn't even look at a cow. I was beginning to think I had paid more for that bull than he was worth. Anyhow, I had the Vet come and have a look at him. He said the bull was very healthy, but possibly just a little young, so he gave me some pills to feed him once per day. The bull started to service the cows within two days, all my cows! He even broke through the fence and bred with all of my neighbor's cows! He's like a machine! I don't know what was in the pills the Vet gave him ........but they kind of taste like peppermint.

my 1 joke read recently

Jem peeking at me from inside the coop the other evening. We have the nesting boxes blocked, but she managed to find a hole.
