Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

are you thinking of retrofitting it ?
why not sell it and use the money to buy a plucker,
or build one from scratch ?
Going to try sell it on Craig's list. It's been sitting in our basement for years. I sell chickens sometimes on Craig's list, beats me why I didn't think of trying to sell that. For a plucker though, probably not as we don't cull 'em. Maybe one day we will get the meat birds though.

At some point they are all meat birds.

We tried, lol. We had a white silkie rooster that went from sweet and docile to suddenly a blood-drawing, satanic-acting monster. We and our border collie drug him off of hens several times. He was full of blood each time, theirs. We separated him for days on three separate occasions and finally said that's enough. We looked at him and thought he'd maybe be enough for one meal, but was this even worth it? Our farmer neighbor saw him in the temp coop and asked what was going on. We told her we were going to butcher and eat him. She busted out laughing and said she'd take him. She raises Brahmas. So now she's got this little silkie rooster running all over her chicken pen, trying to launch himself onto the backs of one of those Brahmas. 🤦‍♀️

I ended up with 4 silkie roosters and they try to mount big birds, I wanted to give them away and tried. My wife sold them for 5 bucks each and the family said they were great. Tasted terrific.
As long as they were happy. Wanted to know if i had more.

Anyway I have heard now the guy which goes Southside La Crosse comes out coon valley which has long lines to buy his corn. Biggest ears and great tasting $12 dozen ( so I had a guy tell me). WOW crazy

It's too bad as if you were up here by us, we can never eat, freeze, or give to relatives as much as we plant. You could have had gobs for free. We dry what didn't get used and put in gunny sacks for during the winter. A couple of dried ears of corn every couple of days at least give them something to do on the colder days when stuck in the coop.

Another question. I know. 😉

Lucy’s pin feathers are growing in nicely. She still keeps her distance from the flock while they’re all free ranging, but today Bruce saw her, two of the hens and our cockerel in the run. Everyone was getting along. She went in once by herself, and stood on the plank to the coop and just cried. Two of our girls are hanging by her more, as well.

When would you suggest we try setting her up on a roost when they’re all asleep? When all her pin feathers have come in? Or can we try later this week? One of the Brahmas pecked at her once today, but that’s been it as far as harassment goes.

I wouldn't . chickens have a pecking order. cows have a pecking order.
that is their politics. best to stay out of it.
when she is comfortable with her position in the flock, she will
go onto the roost.
someone is going to peck someone else every day. that is how
they remind them who is higher on the pecking order.

She spends the night in a dog kennel in our house. Hasn’t spent any time in the coop or run yet, other than those two times
